My Voice and my Face Make Every Day Better

Where do I start? This surgery changed my life.

I received facial feminization surgery and vocal feminization surgery from Dr Mayer. I had them covered by insurance - Keely helped me through communications with insurance. We got everything approved well in advance of the surgery date. I felt really prepared to go into surgery, which really helped. Frances helped calm my nerves, prepare me, and answer all my gross questions. My surgery included:
- voice
- trachea shave
- chin contour
- lip injections
- submental lipo
- cheek implants
- nose shaping, septum correction
- brow shave
- hairline lowering
- eyebrow lift

I stayed locally for a week after the surgery. Recovery was pretty quick*, I was looking normal within a week and gorgeous** within a month. I love my new face and the life it's given me. In addition to the functional improvements to my face, like fixing my deviated septum and un-drooping my eyelids, my face has led to reduced public attention about my gender.

My voice was unusably squeaky, scratchy, painful, and high-pitched the first day after surgery. At one week, my voice was weird, slightly painful, but working. At a month, I reached my new normal: a wonderful feminine pitch. My voice training was vital for my vocal resonance (important: resonance is not pitch) but this surgery made it so I didn't have to think about my falling pitch 24/7.

I first used my voice in public to order a burrito at a taco bell. I was gendered properly, despite being scratchy. It blew my mind. Now I can pick up the phone and introduce myself with much more confidence.

* I had a minor complication where my cheek implant didn't heal properly. I had it removed, then healed for months, and then had the implant replaced. You'd have no idea.

** I love how my face looks. It feels like me, almost completely. You may notice that my nose has a tiny bump in the cartilage. This isn't uncommon with nose jobs, and they offered to remove it, but I missed the appointment.
