I Should Have Gone to See Dr. Torgerson from the Start! - Toronto, ON

UPDATED FROM TaniaBarbe

Type of laser and local anesthetic used

WORTH IT
Just as extra info to my initial post, Dr. Torgerson used Q-switched lasers for my tattoo removal, and he gave me an injection of Xylocaine as a local anesthetic beforehand. It makes the procedure very close to pain free...I mostly just felt a tingle!

How much does it cost?
You'll need to go see Dr. Torgerson for a consultation. Pricing depends on so many factors, ie. how many colors (and how many lasers need to be used), size of the area, etc.
I use an esthetician for Picosure laser tattoo removal. I have not had any problems. I wait 16 weeks between sessions. Most of the fading is seen in the 12th to 16th week.

I made the mistake of initially going to an esthetician spa for laser tattoo removal. After 4 sessions at this spa, I had pretty bad scarring. It's at that moment I figured I needed to see a doctor for this type of procedure. Many doctors didn't want to deal with me, but Dr. Torgerson is the only one who agreed to help me. He's considerably brought down the scar tissue, and has removed a lot of the color since, but it's still a work in progress at this point (as you can see from the attached pics). I should have been better informed about laser tattoo removal and gone to see him from the very start!

Sorry you had a rough start with your removal process, glad to hear that you found a doctor to help you and that you are seeing some results. What laser are you being treated with?

Thanks Eva! Dr. Torgerson has been using Q-switched lasers on me, and he's given me local anesthesia injections to numb the pain beforehand. Great experience so far!

Thanks for your reply, I would love if you would add that information as an update in your review so it's easy to find for others reading.

I also started out with an esthetician and had some scarring. Don't beat yourself up over it. We pay these professionals for their expertise and we can't always know when they are under-trainrd or taking advantage of us. Fortunately, I'm with an excellent doctor now and close to complete removal. Thank you for sharing and good luck!
Glad to hear your tattoo removal is going well and that you're recovering nicely from your bad experience too!
i'm scared, cos i think i am seeing scarring with mine.. the tattoo is bumpy where the ink is densest. i am seeing a doctor in a hospital though, but i'm in thailand, and maybe the standard isn't the best here. my current doctor is using Q-switched lasers too.. what was the aesthetician using?
Be very careful...if you're already seeing scarring, it could get worse. Is your doc scheduling you in at at least 6-8 week intervals? When I got initially got scarring with the esthetician spa, they were scheduling me at 4 week intervals. I guess there could be a whole bunch of other factors that could cause scarring too, ie. intensity of the laser, skin type, etc. The local anesthetic that Dr. Torgerson used is called Xylocaine...he injected it with a needle and I didn't feel a thing :)
I actually wait at least 10 weeks between sessions, but maybe the laser that they are using is not a great one. The Nd Yag laser they have is a Won Cosjet, that seems not very widely used, although the Alexandrite laser is a Candela one and that is a good one that hasn't caused any textural changes in my skin. Anyway, I have to switch clinics because I am moving countries, and have found a new clinic that has the Revlite Nd Yag laser that is meant to be one of the best so hopefully it will get better..
