1 year post op

Very happy with the results, especially the profile. Sometimes I think the front could be a bit narrower, but actually looking back to old pictures it is quite different. I feel like the surgeon gave me an improved version of my nose that fits my face like it was meant to be there the whole time, and it was done in a way that still looks like me and not like Bella Hadid or whoever. I'm functionally better, less self conscious, and happy with my decision to go through with this.

I made an appointment to see a double board...

I made an appointment to see a double board certified ENT doctor who specialized in rhinoplasty in Eastern Canada. She immediately made me feel at ease, and addressed my concerns without judgement.
My functional concerns included difficulty breathing with a deviated septum. I had severe nosebleeds and always felt like I had a head cold. However, I was self conscious of my dorsal hump and wanted my cosmetic concerns addressed as well. My surgeon and I discussed a dorsal hump removal with tip refinement, along with steps to improve my breathing function. She was the only surgeon I consulted, but I really appreciated that she had the experience as an ENT trained surgeon to not only address the cosmetic concerns, but to make sure that my function was not compromised, but improved.

Recovery was both worse and better than I expected. There was little to no pain associated with the procedure. Immediately post op it was the sore throat from the endotracheal tube that hurt the most. I did not use any narcotics for pain, just tylenol. The first 3 days post op were worse than I expected - my face was very swollen, with the fully swollen & black eyes. I didn't realize how frustrating it is to not be able to breath out of your nose, especially at night when I would wake up with a really dry throat from all the mouth breathing. During the first 3-4 days post op I could read, watch TV, do light house work. At post op day 4-5 I was feeling like myself again. I wore a hard cast for 1 week, then tape for another week. It took the full two weeks post op for my bruising to go away to the point where it was concealable by makeup. At two weeks my eyes/cheeks were still a bit swollen, and I had developed acne underneath the tape I'd been wearing for two weeks. Otherwise, I looked pretty normal, with a swollen nasal bridge but a nicely shaped profile view. I still can't consistently breath through my nose, but was told that it would take up to 6 weeks to fully get my breathing back.

Do people notice you got a nose job? At two weeks post op I first saw friends/family. While my boyfriend knew I was getting it done, I had not told anyone else. My sister noticed after 60 mins, but my brother and close group of friends did not notice anything for the entire evening. When I told them after a number of hours, they said that they couldn't tell from straight on, and it was only the profile view that did look different when they reflected on it. It's crazy that what seems like such a big change to me, and something that has really helped me feel more confident in my appearance, was barely noticeable to my close friends and family - who didn't care at all that I had it done! I wish I had gotten this procedure done in my early 20s. I was scared that friends/family/acquaintances would notice and I would have to talk to them about a part of my body I've been self conscious about for years, as well as having people talk about & analyze my nose. I haven't gone back to work yet, but I'm feeling confident that it won't be a "gossiping point" at all - and honestly, I'm so happy with the results that I don't think I care that much even if it was!

Overall I'm really pleased with the results and this decision. I am confident in myself as a person independent of my physical appearance - and now I also have a great looking nose and it's awesome! Good luck with your own journey if you decide to have this procedure done.
