WORTH IT$1,200
I am booked for undereye filler at Spamedica in Toronto. I chose here as Dr Mulholland has been in the business for years. Also the cost is reasonable as the injections are not done by the doctor. When I "spoke" with some others on RealSelf many had their injections done by an experienced injector rather than the doctor. In Canada the injections can only be done by a doctor or nurse so that often makes the cost higher. I am nervous because they are using Juvederm rather than Restalyn which I had asked about on here. The answers ranged from it's a matter of preference to only restalyn should be used under the eyes. They do use a cannula vs a needle.
I am booked for 2 pm on Tuesday and am nervous. What if it looks bad (I also have bags which is not resolved by filler)? What if they don't use enough and it doesn't make a difference? How bad will bruising be?
I have booked the rest of the week off as vacation going into the long weekend so everything should be cleared up by the following Tuesday. I am going to a friends cabin for the long weekend so I hope that between that and the filler everyone will just think I had a good vacation and look great.
My husband is going on a business trip Monday and I leave for the cabin before he gets back so he won't see me until Monday after. Interesting to see what his reaction will be. I think he forgot I'm doing this next week.
My boys are 20 and 16 so they'll see me. I haven't really told them too much. My mom knows because she actually said it's a good idea. Thanks mom. But seriously when your mom says your eyes look bad you know something needs to be done. I just hope the filler does the job for now. I will probably need an actual surgical solution done to get the full effect.

Experience
SusantomfooleryMay 17, 2017
First of all I want to say that the injector (Tina?) and Audrey were great. But the overall experience was disappointing.
This is my first time doing this procedure so I was of course a bit high strung. A combination of excitement and nervousness. I'm sure others have felt this feeling. Hoping for great results but also worrying I'll have disappointing outcome.
I arrived a half hour early and checked in. There was a lot of activity going on in the reception area with 2 people there when I got there and then 4 more arriving while I waited. One person (a young man) arrived ate for his appointment and was told there wasn't enough time for him now. I heard him say it took him 2 hours to get there. I think they somehow accommodated him. So I wasn't surprised that it was taking past my appointment time to be seen. I sat there reading Vogue and trying to keep my excitement down. At one point I heard a person say my first name to the girl behind the desk and I figured I would be next. I overheard Audrey walking someone signing up for the Brilliant Distinctions program. I am already signed up for that so I went to the receptionist and asked if she needed my member number. She said we have that. Ok not sure how they have it. This is where things started to happen. I was given forms to review and sign and then before I finished those I was told to see the doctor. I started following the person and she said no, over there. Ok. I went the other way and there's a doctor. I knew I had to see the doctor first to ensure no medical issues but then he starts talking to me about all the different options and does not seem to know I am booked for treatment that day. Then back out to the reception and the nurse comes and gets me. I am still finishing my paperwork thinking why didn't they give this to me when I got there since I sat there for 45 minutes reading magazines. We go into a room that looks like the walk in clinic storage room. Well at least it looks clinical. Then the nurse starts telling me we we will only have time to do the ultrasound because the other room is booked. FYI when I booked my filler appointment I asked about the leg vein treatment they offer and they said no problem the nurse who is doing my injections is also able to look at my legs right after. But now standing in this room I'm being told they can only do the leg ultrasound not the filler. WHAT??? She said the other room was booked for my filler and this room for my leg ultrasound because that is where the equipment is and the time was late now so we couldn't get into the room for the filler. I almost started crying. All my adrenalin was ramped up in anticipation of fixing my face and now I was being told I'm being bumped. I asked why should I be bumped. It wasn't my fault their schedule was screwed up. The nurse then explains that the first room was booked for 2 and the second room was booked for 2:30 (not sure if those exact times) so we can only have the second room. I told her I was there primarily for fillers and the leg exam was just because I was there already. She said she only had time to do one or the other. Did I want to do the fillers? Well ya. Now I'm upset and I say it's not my fault that the rooms are double booked. I've been here since 1:30. I was early. This is where is becomes clear to her that I have been there this whole time but she thought I wasn't. So she was the person who said my name to the receptionist who apparently didn't know I was there (there were different people working reception while I was there). So we start the procedures. During this Audrey comes in and apologizes but there was a mixup with a new girl working there. Apologies from her, from the nurse, etc. Now I just want to get this done. The happy excitement has gone and now I just want to get this over with. The nurse explained that she was going to do my cheeks first because that lift will also lift the undereye area. During this Audrey comes n to offer apologies and a free face service to make up for my inconvenience. I'm not sure if I can do that service plus I'm kind of pissed t this point. I knew this wasn't a "spa" experience but this is not going at all like o expected. So we finish up. Do I look better? Yes. Am I happy? No. My undereye area still looks bad and that was the whole motivation in the first place. I understand they want to be conservative by only doing 1/2 syringe under each eye rather than risk overfilling but I guess I was expecting too much. So off to settle up. The total is more than I expected. Now I did add a Botox treatment for my mouth so I asked what the breakdown was. They told me the price for the juvederm syringe which I thought was higher than I thought but by this point I just wanted to get out of there. The whole experience was turning into a lunch bag letdown. I get home and confirm I was charged $100 more per syringe than was discussed. That's $400 plus tax more than I planned. I wrote an email to Audrey who confirmed that the invoice would be adjusted and I would have a credit on file. So after all this long long story I'm still not elated but I'm waiting a couple of days to make judgments on the actual results.

That was way too long. I think you look great and aside from all that nonsense of whatever went on they did a good job.

Hi. Did you mean my write up was way too long? I seem to have gone on a long rambling rant. Thanks for the positive feedback.

I know what you mean about disappointed by results. Similar happened to me a couple of weeks ago. Went to get eyes done, and lines down the side of my mouth and ended up with cheeks instead. I went back as it hadn't really made too much difference and ended up having eyes done and a little filler added near mouth. Now I still have wrinkles under my eyes, a little better but not even near what I expected. I can't smile properly and my right side top lip is slightly slanted. My cheeks feel like when you have laughed loads and ache every now and then. I'm going back this week to try and sort it. In a way I wish I had just been grateful for how I looked in the first place. It's a real gambling game.

in short, no they didn’t notice. they’re all men so not surprised. you have to do something really dramatic to have them notice anything.

To clarify Dr. Mulholland was NOT the doctor I saw nor did he do the injections. I went to Spamedica which is his "medispa".

I can't delete his name from the doctor field.
