I tried botox as a last result for chronic migraines. The day after the botox treatment I had a migraine for 2 days all day long, along with a stiff neck. The stiff neck continued for three days with no relief except for taking a muscle relaxant at night but then I would wake up still with a stiff neck worse then the day before. I finally went to the e.r. on Thursday and they gave me a shot of valium and toradol. That has relieved some of the stiffness but not all and I'm still suffering.

I had a similar issue with my neck on my first round. This time, I requested no injections in my neck; problem solved. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info but I don't think botox is for me especially from this doctor!

Yes, it sounds like they are just giving you "standard" injections as opposed to listening to what you need. I'm so sorry. The first round of injections I had this terrible neck pain. It mostly resolved within 2 weeks, and was very slight the rest of the time. I hope that is the case for you.

I will not be going back for a second round but tks for the reply.

I have experienced something similar to yours. I have had chronic migraine for decades and have just completed my fourth of every 3 month injections of botox. My first time was difficult but after suffering for several weeks ...relief began coming apparent. Yes, I needed muscle relaxants for my remarkably painful & limited movement in my neck. I'm glad I stuck it out for those few weeks. I found the neck issue to become less painful with each subsequent injection series. I must say the migraines are more intense for a few days after the ininitial 31 injections in my forehead ,scalp and neck. But i have found in the long run, the botox has improved to a degree, my quality of life. Good luck to you.

I also suffer with chronic migraines. I recently had the sphenocath procedure and I've gone from 15 migraine days a month to one. I was also able to go off almost all of my migraine meds. It's been the only procedure that has given me any relief and it's usually covered by insurance. I hope this helps you. It's worth looking into!

I have had chronic migraines for 18 years. While my husband and I was married & he carried me on his ins & it was cheap I took one every 1 to 3 month. I would much rather hurt a few days then a few months. It's usually only happen that bat on your 1st or 2nd. Yes you will still be sore for a few days but by George I have a + 10 headache. After 19 years my head is still hurts and I am sick on my stomach and weak a little for about two days. Your migraines must not been that bad for you to give up that easy. Because before I started taking the botox injection my migraine hurt so bad i was willing to do anything to make it go away. How can you have a headache ever single day of your life, can't eat, throw up for 5 days or more a week, have to lay in a room completely dark, try to raise a child and still work a job, boy I couldn't. Yes the things you described will happen at the begging and will also from time to time happen again. But take it from one migraines person to another I COULDN'T TAKE THE PAIN IF IT WAS NOT FOR THE INJECTIONS! I AM DOWN TO TRYING IT EVERY 6 MONTHS DUE TO MY INCOME. I also started in the back of my neck and I stopped that after about 8 years. I felt I wasn't getting as much use out of the botox if it was focused more on the face. There is also another medical regiment that I am on until it is time for me to take another botox injection. Take two type of meds everyday to mimize the pain of the headaches until next time for injections. Talk with your doctor to see if something like that is available for you. My is different because I was hit by a drunk driver and case a close end head injury. Something I have to deal with LIFE. Just simply ask your doctor to give you a script for valium and talk to him about your concerns. How can they help you if they don' knowhat's going on and what you are scared of. It's much less pain to get them than not to get them, lol

Still having stiif neck and now migraines!!!

kkd68
It's going on 2 weeks since my botox tx and my neck is stiff and very sore. For the past week I have lived on 800mg of Motrin and Valium. I had such a bad migraine yesterday I had to leave work come home and take a valium and torodol injection. Today I was still unable to work because of the stiff sore neck and another migraine. This is horrible and I would never reccomend botox for migraine therapy to anyone!!! On top of that I have refused to go back to that doctor because he and his medical staff refuse to return my calls or follow up knowing the pain I am in. I have had to go to my own doctor and even the ER..

the $10 is my co-pay I have no idea what the actual cost is yet. Will update when I know.

that is terrible the doctor and staff will not return your call or give you some sort of follow up treatment, medication or even referral to another physician if you are no longer comfortable with them (and I wouldn't blame you) I am so glad for the internet and the ability to speak freely about bad as well as good doctors. Not saying I go around bashing doctors because fortunately I have always had good experiences but these reviews definitely steer you away from doctors who not affected either way by how their patients feel. some truly do not give a flip

I got botox for migranes also. It was my third time but a different doctor. The doctor gave me way to much. A day after treatment my neck was so sore I couldn't move or was in excruciating pain. I am currently working with doctors and toxicologist to share my story. This is over a month later and my pain has subsided some thanks to an awesome Accupuncturist who I saw two weeks after injections. Besides that, I have no strength in my neck and literally have lost my life. I have a 3 year old daughter a day this really put a damper on my time with her and everything else.

Going on 3 weeks and just went to the ER too and my Neurologist is not concerned. They gave me Dilaton (stronger than morphine) and Soma (a strong muscle relaxer). I was told this could last up to 3 to 4 months because that is how long the botox takes to get out of your system. My Doc also just put me on vicadin and valium and now flexeril instead of valium after I went to the ER because I said the two together were not working. Never doing this again, I can't seem to do anything that involves the muscles of my neck. Glad I am not the only one who went to the ER.
