2 weeks post sleeve in mexico
WORTH IT$3,000
Doing well! Totally worth it! Working with a dietician for meal plans and tansitioning between phases, plus holidays! Feel good! The weight loss is so dramatic the first couple weeks, 15lbs! I know it will slow down once I start adding food. Frustrating not having clothes that fit, but I don't want to spend money on new clothing because my body is changing so rapidly!! Friends have been more supportive now I've had the surgery, almost a little jealous. I have never vomited and only had a couple bouts of nausea. I've totally followed the diet!! Going back to work full time next week. It's going to be a challenge getting all the protein and water in. I will persevere!!!

And people thing I look great!!!!!! Generally people are not very educated about the gastric sleeve surgery!!! Even my best friends who know we well act like they are on board but I get an uneasy feeling from them! They just don't know the struggles I face with my weight!!! All the years of yo-yo dieting. Also they don't understand how fearful for my health I am at this point! I've been walking and lost weight but that is not where it stops!!!! Loosing a few pounds is not the answer! It's keeping it off that I always struggle with!!! This surgery is just another tool to help me be successful and achieve my goal!!!!
How are you doing
I'm nervous! I'm going by myself from North Carolina. I've done all the reading and talking I can do! I need to trust that all will be well. I will definitely post an update as thing go. Feel free to send questions and I'll answer when I'm in the land of the living!!!!! Thanks!!!
Ok, I am from Vancouver, BC Canada and I am getting sleeved Nov 19, I am also going by myself and am very nervous. good luck
Thanks!!! Stay in touch!!!
ANewBeginning2015 are u going to Tijuana Mexico for your procedure? If so what doctor did u go with? I'll be going in for my sleeve on Nov 20th at OCC with Dr. Ortiz. Good luck, you'll do fine.
Well I had my procedure yesterday. I've been an RN for 30 years, Dr Maytorena and his staff are wonderful. The clinic was small but very clean! With the small clinic you don't feel like hearded cattle!!! The anesthesiologist was also fabulous!! The recovery house is clean and updated as well. Most of the staff speak English, some better than others! Bring ear plugs and eye shield so you can get some sleep. Feeling pretty good. Feel like I did one to many sit ups, plus gas! They are very efficient, had my leak test and everything was ok. It's been a good experience and being by myself, I feel that they have taken care of me!!! Good luck!
Congrats bulldog_girl24.... You did it!! Keep us posted on your progress. I've heard ppl say that it is somewhat nice to go alone because u get much needed rest and you don't have to worry about if your companion is bored/hungry while u sleep off your recovery.
Thanks, I am glad that you are feeling good. I am going to same clinic and same Doctor. I will bring earplugs and eye covers. I am still kind of nervous but excited.
Wow, bet you can't believe it's over. Hope you're "feeling no pain" as they say and that your recovery is smooth. Keep us posted on how it's going. Mine is Dec. 2nd and I'm nervous!!!!
I guess there is wifi, so bring a laptop? You sound great
I really wanted someone to go with me but now I'm here, I agree with everyone about not having to worry! Thanks for your support!
My phone didn't work at the clinic but everything started working once I got to the recovery house. I added an international plan to my regular cellular plan. I was able to make phone calls from the clinic on my cell phone. Watched a movie on Netflix on my ups this afternoon. Just having my first broth! There is a doctor who stays overnight at the recovery house. So well organized!!!!
Glad it is over but it's been a great experience with everyone here! Chicken broth never tasted so good!!!! I'm sure you will do great!! They are really good about giving you medicine for pain, nausea and acid reflux. All IV, nothing to swallow!!!
Hey girl! How are you doing? Only 2 days to go?!?! Sending thoughts and prayers!
getting anxious...anything special I need to bring? earplugs, and eye covers? I am worried about carrying a bag, ...omg I am nervous ...how are you doing
I'm doing pretty good. The ear plugs are a godsend, but I live with English Bulldogs!!! Pack light and I checked my bag coming home so I didn't have to carry it. I was a little tender but make sure they give you IV pain medicine before you fly home. They said to crush the pills but they taste so bad I only did it one day. I haven't had a problem since. I wore PJs at the recovery house. It is just you and the nurse and maybe 1 or 2 other patients. You will do great!!! Best of luck!!!
:) thanks
How's things? Hope you are well and had a great experience!
Well it was a bit different for me. I was pertrified and everything was scary for me. I just did not feel comfortable, the pain when I work up was very bad and the doctor at recovery house determined that I had collapsed lung. Today is 4 days out and I am feeling a bit better as far as pain goes. Pain is really mostly just around larger suture where drain was. When will that be relieved? I go to family doctor tomorrow to help me with diet. I can't swallow all the pills they gave me. How are you doing with that? I am hoping I get positive soon.
The first week is tough. I had trouble with all the pills! I just took one at a time with apple juice. The antibiotic tasted so bad I would gag and the capsule was hard to get down!!! The pain where the drain was took a good bit to settle. I'm 2 wks out and if i bump the counter it hurts!!! I would ask your family practice doctor for a referral to a dietician. I'm still struggling getting all the water in and protein shakes!!! Try and go for short walks. I find my pain is less if I get up and move. I got more sore sitting on the couch all day. Hang in there!!! I promise it gets better!!!
I have thrown up every pill. Can't take them
Hey girl! Just thinking about you. Hope things are getting better!
ok, I had an asthma attack so I guess that did not help..lol...I have been feeling much better and trying to get my act together. Not as great as you but I am hoping. One week since surgery and I have lost 8 pounds so I guess that is good. I am in week two and trying to eat pudding, and a bit of soup, etc...
Yeah! Sounds like you've turned the corner! I started purée foods. Still have trouble with when I'm full so I just stick to 1/4 cup. Feel like I'm constantly drinking. No weight loss this week but I hear that's kind of normal. Going to start back walking on Monday. Hang tough girl!!!
you too
i know what you means about always drinking....jeshhhh
i know what you means about always drinking....jeshhhh
Who was your doctor?
hope all has gone well for you so far,
Thanks! All is good! At the airport ready to go home. Feeling good and happy to get up and start moving in the real world!!!

My journey is like so many others. I lost my mom...
My journey is like so many others. I lost my mom last year after a long battle with heart disease, stroke and diabetes. Also my brother has diabetes. I just don't want to go down that path!!! I've had knee replacement surgery, Achilles' tendon surgery and had my gall bladder removed. I turned 50 last year and single, never married. I've always been heavy, 5 ft 1 inch 245lbs at my heaviest. I started in April with a consultation to a local bariatric surgeon. I was told I had to do 6 months of medically supervised diet, have an EGD, psychology testing, exercise testing and see a dietician. I did everything and lost about 25lbs. The office then told me they never checked my insurance benefits!!! I made the mistake of trusting them!!! It turns out I don't have any bariatric benefits on my insurance plan!!!!!! I was devastated!!!!! They asked me if I wanted to continue as a cash patient for $17,000. I declined!!! Luckily I have been a member of this wonderful site and have read the many posts about Tijuana Mexico. I leave Monday 11/9 to see Dr. Maytorena! Excited and nervous. Thanks for listening! I'll send an update!

Good luck and please keep us updated with your progress.
Do you tip the driver or any of the staff in Mexico? Just wondering. Thanks!!!
OMG, I am doing this November 19 and I am a bit scared any advice
I've already got my protein powders and vitamins! Already talked to my primary MD who is going to help me out. I have an appointment set up with my dietician for week 2 to help me put menus together. You just have to trust in yourself that you are doing the right thing! Once I got down to 3 weeks before surgery, I have had no second thoughts!!! Even if a friend started challenging me on why I was doing this!!! It's full steam ahead!! Believe in yourself!!!! Xoxo
Hi. How are you doing. I am doing much better. It took me awhile. But I am almost 5 months post op and down 55lbs which I will take. I did not measure my body before I started and wish I did as I am fitting into much smaller sizes and feeling great about that. I am still having some problems with foods that I cannot eat. I am sure I am not getting enough exercise in nor water. But that is what it is....Hope you are doing well also.
