Didn't Have the Results I Expected: Multiple Revisions Needed for Each Procedure - Tijuana, Mexico

All of my procedures required revisions so I tend to agree with the reviewer who noted 'lack of attention to details.' More troublesome is you have to pay for the surgical suite and anesthesiologist for EACH REVISION as well as the stress of traveling out of the country for surgery and putting your body through the multiple revisions.

After having some of the substandard work repaired in the US I would never opt to go to Cosmed again. I appreciate the care I received but wish my results had been better and I hadn't needed surgery in the US to fix.

Hi Calli, thanks for sharing your experience with us. I'm sorry it didn't work out as planned for you. If you don't mind sharing, what is it that went wrong for you?

Hi Kirsty, the last revision I had left me with a huge block of scar tissue and an infection that went undetected for four months. I ended up having multiple surgeries in the US to reshape my stomach and reposition my belly button, which was nearly two inches off center. It turned out there was a large section of skin tucked in under the midline incision that got infected. The doctors here were shocked and said the tissue should have been removed before suturing. I paid $1,000 to Cosmed for the revision and felt I got nothing in return but six months of pain and medical bills. Dr. Quiroz told me over the phone it was a buried stitch and to have it removed under local anesthesia so I'm really grateful I had it addressed in the US as I can't imagine what might have happened if I'd had another procedure in Mexico.

Hi Calli: Can you explain what the 'legal" agreement you signed pertained to? I was thinking of going to this guy but now I'm doubting...also what did you have done that came up to $15K? Thanks for your review...it really helps.

I'm sorry you had to go through all of that. I hope you're doing better now, after having your complications fixed!

It's been quite some time since you posted, how are you? I wish I would have found this site before, I could have been saved from Cosmed too.

Hello! Sorry, just now seeing your comment. I'm doing pretty well and adapting to my patchwork body. I'm always amazed (and validated!) when I hear others have had problems at Cosmed. Really wish I'd figured out earlier the revisions would cause me problems with scar tissue later but not much I can do now, right? I wish you the best, thank you for asking about me!

I'm sorry you went thru this. A friend of mine on this site also needs every surgery she had done there by Dr. Quiroz revised. I think there should be an extra area on this site to post bad outcomes and less than acceptable results. I needed my lower body lift and thigh lift revised, but that surgeon is in Ft. Lauderdale (Don Revis). Substandard surgeon, terribly results. Guess that goes to show there are terrible surgeons practicing on the US, too. But I think the chances are better to find qualified surgeons here. Thank God a friend steered me straight to Dr. Peter Fisher in San Antonio. Incredible surgeon!

I'm sorry to hear your friend also had problems. Yes, there are good and bad surgeons everywhere but having one close by in case of problems is key. Glad you found a great surgeon!

Everybody, stop going out of the country to save a few dollars. There are a million cosmetic surgeons in the US, and you can actually see them more than twice a year for follow up. You will not get a better deal in another country, and if there's some major issue to address as a result of your surgery, it's the difference between driving 15 mins to the Dr's actual office, or having your emails to the Yucatan go unanswered.

People do this because the cost difference for medical care outside the US vs outside is NOT a few dollars. For many, it's the difference between being about to have the surgery or not.

Besides, go to ANY doctor that's been in practice a number of years and there will always be some cases that didn't go as well as expected regardless of country.
