8 weeks post op
Eight weeks post op and I now weigh 77.2kg down from 92.3kg at the start of my journey. I feel great, my energy levels are good & I am weight training at the gym 3-4 times a week. I now have minimal back pain which is the best part of all. Still have to think carefully about what I eat & portion sizes. I'll dish up my meal & then halve it. I have absolutely no regrets.
Pre op photos
These were actually taken six months prior but are the latest ones I had. I have grown to hate having my photo taken. I was even heavier than this when I had surgery.
I decided to have gastric sleeve surgery earlier...
I decided to have gastric sleeve surgery earlier this year after spending a week in our capital city of Wellington on holiday with my teenage son. We had a great time walking everywhere and enjoying all the sights. But every night my back would be so sore I was having to take prescription pain killers to sleep.
At 5'2 and weighing 93kg I was far too heavy for my frame. Also I have an artificial disc in my lower back which when I first had it done was great as I weighed a lot less. I decided that I did not want to live my life on painkillers & grumpy with back pain but with a thyroid disorder it was extremely hard to lose weight or to keep it off.
Originally I was going to have a lap band but after researching decided the sleeve was the best option for me. I had the surgery privately which was expensive but I figure that the best long term investment to make is in myself.
The first couple of weeks were difficult in being able to drink enough fluids but I was back at work within a week. I haven't had much pain and have been able to walk for 30mins or more since week two.
I lost 4kg prior to surgery and have lost a further 8kg in the last four weeks. Xmas day yesterday was a little bit harder because I wanted to eat ham but its bearable. Now that I'm eating small (4tsp max) puréed food it is going better and I feel great.
I would do it again and would recommend it to everyone. I've told many of my family and friends because I want them to see how successful this procedure is for long term weightloss.
