Cosmetic Medical Clinic Sydney: Regretful

I'd been thinking about getting my tattoo removed for years, but never bit the bullet. I was in Sydney for a few months and came upon Cosmetic Medical Clinic in Sydney CBD. I try to do my due diligence on the procedure and the clinic/practitioner and Jenner Chan has glowing reviews on google and facebook. So I booked my appointment.

My one hour consult and procedure 6 months ago, with Jenner all seemed great. She was nice, friendly, optimistic, etc - everything you want in a practitioner. I was ecstatic I was getting it done, so very stupidly ignored a few things I should've paid attention to. She uses a 2 step method for tattoo removals: Fotona - Q-Switch Laser & Co2 Fractional Skin Resurfacing. Costed around $300.

After the treatment, I followed her aftercare - which was do nothing and not to get it wet. Good thing I was on holiday in AU, so I was also able to leave it uncovered and let it "breathe". My tattoo completely scabbed over in a sheet and fell off, but it took a whole month! Unfortunately, underneath that scabbing was red, raised, blotchy irritable scarring and some hypopigmentation. Very upsetting. Since I don't live in Sydney I have to seek treatment elsewhere. I have already confirmed with other dermatologists that my treatment has left Keloid scarring and I will now be spending more money to get this fixed.

Looking back there were a few red flags I should've paid attention to.
- she didn't freely go over possible side effects (which I already researched and knew of) and she insisted scarring, etc was near impossible. She was sure that it would go so well that I may not need another treatment since my tattoo was so old.
- She scrolled through other patients' before/after and showed them to me - not sure if that violates patient confidentiality.
- I asked her about aftercare and moisturizers or ointment. She told me point blank "Nothing. Skin doesn't need moisturizer." and proceeded to show me her skin and how she never uses moisturizer.
- She didn't assess my skin type.
- She's a laser technician (her office says she's a nurse but you can't find her in any AU practitioner registry).

Lessons:
- find a certified dermatologist
- don't let emotions get in the way - stick to the facts and research. If anything sounds a tiny bit off to you, find someone else.
