Considering Tattoo Removal

Gorgeous2942
So for years i decided i wanted a half sleeve tattoo. Ive got other large tattoos and ive never regretted any of them. After a LOT of thought i decided to go for it and totally did not expect that i would immediately regret and hate the tattoo! I feel really silly for making such a huge decision to put something on my body that i regretted immediately but i just did not see it coming as i felt so sure of what i wanted. I cant work out if its the tattoo itself im not happy with or the fact that its on my arm. Anyway i am now in two minds about laser removal. My partner loves the tattoo and says he thinks that i would regret the laser process more than the tattoo itself as i may be left with scars or ghosting etc but i just want it gone as i feel now that i cant wear the pretty short sleeve tops i wore a year or so ago and im embarrassed to even get my arm out. I just wondered if anyone could give me some advice or tell me about their experience and if laser removal was something they regretted more than the tattoo or if they felt it was totally worth the time, pain, money and effort?
p.s the tattoo itself was never fully completed aa you can see from the pictures. i had the first half done and decided i did not want to go back to complete the rest as id already regretted the first half of the tattoo...
Thanks

I am exactly in the same boat you are in. I got a half sleeve tattoo... immediately regretted it. I’m feeling better now that I found a reputable laser place in FL and made a decision to start. I start on December 7th... I’ll let you know how i feel about it after. In my own experience (pre Laser)... I was terrible when I was in limbo... should I or should I not — I was driving myself and everyone around me crazy.

hi i was just wondering how your first session went?

Hey, it went really well. A lot of the shading went away. I can definitely see a difference. The healing was a little annoying but was fine after about 13-14 days. The little bits of white ink I had are basically gone, you can barely see it. There’s a few things that can happen to white ink.. the doctor showed me pictures and all.
1) fades away normally
2) turns dark color First and slowly goes away with treaments
3) stays white , nothing really happens.

Luckily for me the white ink is just fading away but since there was so little it basically blasted it right off

ah thats great news! so in your opinion would you say your pleased you went ahead with it?!

100% YES, I feel very relieved now that I’ve started. I don’t think about it as much anymore because I know I’m doing something about it. Before I would wake up annoyed. Once I settled my emotions, everything started working out for me.

My advice to you if your really thinking about starting ...find a GOOD doctor in your area. It took me about a month to find one. I drive 3 hours to go to him. Make sure they have before/after photos etc. I know some places are cheaper but do not look at that (easier said than done).

If you have any questions, shoot me message.

Thanks so much for your reply. Its a very hard decision. I feel at the moment either way i will be unhappy! are you looking forfull removal or to fade for a cover up? I was also thinking a cover up with something a little more girly may be an option but ideally id just like to have the tattoo gone completely. Id love to hear how your first laser session goes and how you feel after getting started with it

Ideally, I want to go full removal — I’m just gonna go really slow. 2 months in between sessions and see how it goes. From what I’ve seen on this site is to find a good laser clinic, go slow, stay out of the sun as much as you can and follow aftercare. From what I see in the pics you posted, the tattoo removal seems pretty simple except for the colors. Seems like you have some color/white in the tattoo too

yes there is a spot of red and a few bits of white (which i have heard is virtually impossible to remove) but the majority is black with grey shading which i hope will be to my advantage, also the darker black sections and outline i am slightly worried about. I have just taken a look at your tattoo - i don't think you have much to worry about as yours is basically all grey shading which from what i have seen has a very successful chance of removal. I to am mainly worried about the pigmentation and 'ghosting effect'. I always had quite a nice tan after being in the sun which i fear will now look awful and show the remnants of my tattoo once its gone due to the pigmentation. looking forward to see the results from your first session. Im hoping it may sway me one way or another...

The white ink is tricky because you really do not know what’s gonna happen. However, the few people I’ve talked to that have had white ink during removal said it turns darker first then goes away. He both do not have a lot so it shouldn’t be a huge issue depending on what they mixed it with. And honestly I don’t think you’ll have issue with your skin or the red ink. I think it’s really going to depend on the clinic you go to for the removal

You know how you feel about your body, so if you want it gone I would just go for it, regardless of what your FB thinks of the tattoo. I’ve started the removal process on a tattoo I’ve been torn about and after seeing some color start to knock out I felt so much relief and happiness. Red was the easiest for my clinic to tackle, they used a picolaser and I could see the difference starting about a week later. Try to follow your own heart on this one and not what other people tell you.

Thanks for your reply! yes you are right. My main feeling is that i just want my old arm back before the tattoo was there. Thats encouraging to hear you've been having good results. I can imagine how much better you must begin to feel and i think it would hopefully get rid of my anxiety about having my arm on show in public now. I hope you get the results you are looking for :)

I'm currently having tattoo removal done and would say it's worth it. Especially if (like myself) you truly are unhappy with tattoo. You can go on Groupon and find deals on your first few treatments. That should help with the cost a bit at least! As far as the pain... it's a pretty quick process. Unfortunately, you have to go in for multiple sessions. And healing can be... well, you may get blisters and bleeding/scabbing that are unsightly/uncomfortable for anywhere from 1-2 weeks following each session. Given your tattoo is mostly black, your treatment will likely be less aggressive than my own and you may not need as many treatments as myself. You'll do a consultation prior to your 1st session and the tech will go over everything with you(: Best of luck!
