Getting ready for a breast lift on Monday, June...

Getting ready for a breast lift on Monday, June 1st with Dr. Daniel Greenwald,
so excited! Never even thought about suck things before a month ago and
now here I am!
I was impressed with Dr. G's Beautiful office downtown Tampa. There was easy parking and and he has a very welcoming and professional staff, comfortable waiting room, etc. Everything you would expect, but don't always find. I didnt have to wait long either, and they had fit me in for an appt sooner than expected by letting me come in early in the morming for my consultation. I also liked Dr. Greenwld's manner, not trying to sell me on anything, just explaining what he would do and why.
I liked the before and after photos on his website, and he also had an impressive background and experience (Princeton, Yale Medical school, etc) so I felt very comfortable choosing him for my procedure. He was a little more expensive than others but Price was not my main concern.
He said he would do the anchor incision, which I originally was trying to avoid, due to the extra scar under the breasts, but he explained that in my case, being that I have a lot of sag and extra skin that needs to be excised -yes I do, from yo- yo dieting over 30 years, and the effects of aging, menapause, and genetics.
He said it is 'cheating' to try to do this type of lift with only a lollipop incision ( vertical incision and areola only) which could often end up with dog ears on the side and/or pleating that would have to be fixed later. I have seen the dog ears, etc on some real self posts, and I really would rather NOT have to have to come back in a year for a fix! I saw a great animation of the anchor lift at sunderstand.com
and it really was able to make me 'understand' how the anchor incision allowed the most skin to be removed and the greatest amount of lift and a good shape without having to bunch up any extra skin. I just felt that for my situation, Getting rid of the excess skin cleanly and having a great outcome was more important than the incision scars. So, i feel fine with my decision after doing my research. Can't wait.
It will be done at a surgery center under general anesthesia, amd my post op visit is set for Thursday, June 4th. They told me to bring a front closure, non- underwire bra in my size (34) which they will put on after surgery. They suggested I look for one at Walmart, and i found some inexpensive ones there.

Things I have gotten and done to get ready for my Breast lift:
Stopped all vitamins and supplements
Stopped all aspirin, ibuprofen, advil, etc fish oil, vit E, that can cause bleeding.
Picked up my prescriptions from the Dr for Antibiotic: Keflex
and
For pain medication if needed, Percacet 5/325 mg
Got some extra stregth acetaminaphen (Tylenol) since not using Ibuprofen.
Tylenol is allright
to take because it does NOT cause bleeding.

To help lesson bruising and to heal faster:
Taking arnica montana 30 x for a week ahead of time ( Amazon : 3 bottle of hylands arnica montana 30x , 250 tabs each for &19.43)
Arnica gel - i had this already, I think I just found it somewhere like walgreens.
Bromelain tablets 500 mg ( amazon- best naturals $10) this is the extract from pineapple- it says take one a day, im taking 2 - call me crazy!

For possible constipation from taking pain pills:
Miralax powder: I already had this , but you can get it generic at walgreens or cvs for about $15 - it mixes in any liquid, no taste at all, not a stimulant, works great.
Senna tablets (gentle stimulant laxitive if you need it -generic is Sennosides- walgreens generic 25 mg, 24 pills for $5.49
Senna tea - more mild- Celestial seasons has a nice one with fennel called " Laxatea"
Glycerin suppositories - I work in GI, so let me tell ya, these can be your best friend.
Simple. Cheap and get the job done , lol. Just push em up there ladies:)

Scar treatments: reccomended by others on real self that worked well:
bio-oil for scar treatment (6.7 oz - Amazon - $17.60)
Mepitac silicone Medical tape for scar treatment ( 1 roll - Amazon, $18.99) much much cheaper than silicone sheets and seems to be the same thing.
Thinking of getting Scaraway silicone gel for scar treatment (2 tubes 10 g tubes for $35 - Amazon)

BRAS/clothing:
Still not completely sure what I need, so I got a few different bras, and I will return the ones I dont need: all with no underwire.
Carole Martin front closure full freedom comfort bra in beige- ($13.99 - Amazon)
Fruit of the loom front closure bra in white ( Walmart , $7.98) size 34
Fruit of the Loom front closure bra in black ( walmart - $9.95) a little more coverage and has removable padding, size Small
Fruti of the loom, front closure racerback sports bras , pack of 2 , white/gray and gray/black (walmart , $10.94) sz 34
I got some underwire fun cute bras in 34b but I dont think I can wear inderwire bras for a while. I have t been told exactly how long you should wait.

I would like to find a regular 34b bra without underwire, and a regular no closure sports bra - but again, im not sure when I am allowed to move my arms enough to stretch and do a back clasp, or put a regular sports bra over my head.
I want to also get a button down PJ top, gonna check thrift stores this weekend.

Misc items:
I read cocoa butter is good for scars as well, and I already had some.
Gauze for under bras. ( or you can use maxi pads)i got at walgreens 8.49 , probably cheaper at walmart
Recliner to sleep in - I got one off craigslist for $45 before my blepharoplasty, so I plan to sleep in it for a bit., others have recommended a long pillow to help you, if you are sleeping in your bed. I am just too afraid thatI will end up on my boobs, since that is how I always sleep. Maybe that's why they deflated? lol
Heating pad - some have recommended this for your back

Food:
Have some meals ready for yourself.

Remember you wont be able to lift anything heavy or reach.

Yikes, I think that's it:)

If you know something else that I should add, or have some insight,
please feel free to let me know, I'm just trying to make everything go smoothly....
Cooking with Crisco...
Good luck everyone!

Congratulations on your decision to undergo a breast lift with Dr. Greenwald. Funny, I was going to consult with him about another procedure I want (non-breast related), but found a seemingly good surgeon on this site closer to home with whom I will consult first. If I am not satisfied with the consultation, then I may set-up something with Dr. Greenwald, who is only 90 minutes away from where I live. I have a plastic surgeon already; in fact, I have two, but I use different surgeons for different concerns/treatments, as they specialize in a certain areas. For example, I do not want a breast man working on my nose or face. Any way, it sounds like you have everything you'll need down to a T. In addition, to Arnica/Bromelain, Vitamin K works wonders for bruising. You can also obtain additional or all of your bromelaine by eating and drinking a lot of pineapple. The pineapples will also give you the enzymes it contains to help the body utilize it better. I have the anchor incisions and they are so worth it. I would never consider any other type of lift but the anchor, because it does create a very perky result. The scars will mature in about a year or so and blend in nicely with your skin tone, but I do have white rings around my areolas (not noticeable to anyone but me unless someone is examining my breasts). Sadly, all of the anchor incisions do not disappear completely, regardless of the scar treatment used, but they can be greatly improved (genetics play a larger role in the fading/improvement of a scar). Good luck on the 1st and please post updates. I would love to follow your story before consulting with your doctor. Be well...xoxo

Hi LynnCC, thanks for the tips - I will get some Vit K! My eye PS ( i just had an upper and lower bleph) had told me to eat pinapple but I cant because I am a lo carb person:). Yes, I will post as much as I can! I hope I heal well, but I may take a while since I am at the end of day 11 post eye surgery and still look like I was beat up in a bar fight, lol. What did you use for your scars? I saw there is a silicone nipple cover made by a company called "NewGel Plus" recc by some Docs on real self. Once I saw that animation of the anchor lift procedure, it made perfect sense to me, I have a ridiculous amount of excess skin, not sure why, but one PS said I looked like I had lost 80 lbs. so bizarre. In high scool I weighed 178 lbs at the most, but for most of my life I have been up and down with 15-20 lbs, pretty typical. I am 5' 6" and 137 lbs now. Can you tell me which bras I really need? Do I have to wear front closure bras for a long time, or is it ok to wear regular bras without underwire after a few weeks? Thanks so much:)

Hi Zenbod! As for your bras, I would let your doctor be the judge; however, I will tell you what I have been advised to do. Almost 11 weeks ago I had a breat revision involving a lot more than just a lift. My old implants bottomed-out and I had to have pocket repair work using internal permanent sutures and my own skin. I also downsized and am carrying a 305cc implant. After my surgery, I had to go for my follow-up the next day. I was informed that day to get a good support bra and remove the surgical bra. I did just what he said, but decided to wear what's called a "comy bra" over it for added support. The comy bra is stretchable, but does help make everything nice and snug. When I went to see my doctor the following week wearing two bras, he was elated. He thought it was a fantastic idea and even took photographs of the labels on the bra. He's going to recommend it to all his revision patients. You take a look at my review to get a better idea of the bras I am talking about. I have pictures of them posted on my review. Please check it out. If I could have gotten away with a lift only, I too would avoid the implants; unfortunately, my doctor told me I'd have no volume left and would look horrible (he used kinder words). I bought silicone sheets, but have not used the yet as I am still in surgical tape. I see my doctor Monday and will ask him when I can remove the tape. My other surgeries, I used nothing at all. Genetics worked pretty well for me. :-) You are a low-carb person. I see, so no fruit. Oh well, I am sure Bromelaine will be sufficient. I'm really excited for you and will be thinking about you Monday. Please update when you are able to! Best wishes to you. I am sure you'll be thrilled with your results! :-)

By the way, you never mentioned implants? Are you having a reduction with lift only?

Hi, no implants! I'm just getting a breast lift. I will go down to a B cup because of the

Because i was probably a small D to start and due to volume loss and the skin removal, the remaining breast tissue should be a B cup, at least this is what the Dr. Told me. I always hated having big boobs since I was an athlete all through high school and after and so I think I will love love love it!. I can always get implants later if it turns out smaller than I like, and Dr. freenwald said it i s safer to do the 2 procedures separately anyway.

I see now. Yes, same here. I had very large boobs as a young teen-ager and hated them so much. I was teased by the girls and received too much unwanted attention by men. Men old enough to be my grandfathers, I swear. I hated my breast so much. Only people like us, who have been in similar situations understand the psychological damage the past can do to a child. At least in my case. Not saying that was your situation. Be well...xoxoxo

I hear you! Yes, its amazing how a situation can take you immediatley back to a time when you were a child and felt a certain way, it sticks in your head forever.

You certainly have done all your homework :) ... i too was in the same boat and finally had a breast lift via anchor, no augmentation. My only regret was waiting so many years to have it done, but you know life does get in the way !! .. I am now 7 weeks post op and look forward to hearing about your further experience ... wishing you all the best of a speedy recovery and fantastic result .. it is such a relief to have a smaller profile and more aesthetically pleasing appearance !

Me too, i never knew about all this real self stuff, lol, should have done a reduction years ago and I would have been so much happier. Thanks for the encouragement, so all is going well with you at 7 weeks now?
June 3, 2015
absolutely all is well .. thank you :) hope you are feeling okay today ? i was uncomfortable for about a week and it was more the changes to shape and sensitivity that would distract me .. not so much pain .. i am still getting used to the feeling of the new positioning on my chest when i dont have any type of support on .. i told my dr. 'you know the pencil test' ? he said, 'yes' .. then he got the idea how serious i was about wanting my old breasts back ... you will find it strange that your bra size may be the same, it surprised me !! .. i am now looking forward to no longer having to be taped !! i wish you well .. keep is all posted .. regards !!

Hi again, thanks, for all theni put, I will check out your page to see the bras, etc. I am pretty sure I am not going to even have a surgical bra because he told me to bring the walmart front closure bra with me to the surgery center somthey can put me in it! Who knows, maybe they will use two? I guess I will see. They moved my surgery up to 1:30 p Monday, from 4 p, so coming up fast.

It is indeed coming fast! I would first ask your doctor about wearing two bras. I had a lot of pocket work down and am must keep my implants as motionless as possible. Your doctor may not want too much compresssion. Best to ask him, especially since our procedures are totally different. My breast revision was much more involved and 6 hours long. Good luck on Monday! So happy for you...xoxoxo

By the way, the Comy Bras on my review are not front closure bras. I'm sure you'll be able to find front closure at Walmart, though. When you have a lift you really cannot raise your arms for a while. Front closure is definitely what you need to buy.

Good deal, That's why i got a few different styles of front closure bras, so hopefully one of them at least will work, and then I can get a few more. I noticed trying them on that even though they are all size 34 or supposed to work for size 34, they are all very different as far as tightness and fit.

PS) Just saw the bras you purchased. Looks like you bought some very good supportive bras. You appear all prepared for your surgery! Monday is right around the corner! So happy for you...Yay!!!

Sorry to hear about your eye, but so happy your lift surgery went well. I personally would not ice for longer than 20 minutes every couple hours, and never directly place the ice bag on your skin as you can do more damage than good. Use a towel over your skin and place the ice bag on top of the towel. I never iced, nor was I advised to ice, but all surgeons have different instructions. Happy healing!
