4 Weeks into my Invisalign Journey! - Sydney, AU

Tray 8, 9 & 10 update!

$8,000
My journey so far has been quite smooth and i've yet to experience any dilemmas, aside from the general uncomfortable feeling and tightness that is experienced within the first few days of changing the aligners there really is nothing noteworthy to report!

Changes in my teeth have been quite noticeable and I noticed this from very early on in my treatment. One of the most obvious changes has been the change in my bite, as you can see from the initial photos that I posted earlier my bite was off, I now have an overbite! I've noticed my teeth have become less crowded and this is most noticeable when I am flossing and the dental floss goes between my teeth with ease. I have remained determined in wearing my aligners for 23 hours, but unfortunately my oral hygiene has been compromised because of this as I don't thoroughly clean my teeth when i'm on the go and often settle for a rinse with water.

If you guys have any questions don't hesitate in asking!

Cheers!

Photos from initial consultation - December 2013

Hey guys, sorry for being slack with my updates. Have now been documenting my journey with photos but don't have any from trays 1-7. I do, however, have photos pre-invisalign through to my current trays (10), will post them separately.

I apologise in advance for the unpleasant nature of the photos haha!

ORIGINAL POST

I had been considering fixing my...

I had been considering fixing my misaligned/overcrowded teeth for sometime and after getting a few opinions I'd decided on an ortho that I was comfortable with. Naturally the ortho was insistent that I go with traditional braces as the ortho is able to maintain total control with movement, and the success of invisalign is heavily reliant on customer compliance, but I assured him that I would wear my aligners 23/7 (I know the golden rule for invisalign is 22hrs per day but my orthos office is adamant i wear for 23hrs).

Imprints of my teeth were taken and I was told i'd likely be waiting from 4-6 weeks to receive my trays, was elated when they called me only 2 weeks later to tell me my trays had arrived and so I was in the next day to have them put in. At the initial invisalign fitting i was pleasantly suprised to find that i'd be having 14 upper and 18 lower for my "first cycle" (approx 9 months treatment with 14 days each tray), i was also told that i'd have 8 attachments put on 4 of my back teeth when i'd reached my 3rd set of trays.

Now onto invisalign, initially i found it quite difficult to adjust to this new piece of plastic in my mouth, i found that the bottom of my tongue was scratching against the edges of the plastic and this was quite uncomfortable but after a couple of days i was able to adjust. I would say the first 4 days are the most difficult because you are adjusting to this foreign object in your mouth. In regards to the pressure feeling on the teeth i would say it is definitely tolerable and is a reminder that my teeth are being moved!! The bruisey/tenderness feeling is most apparent whilst eating, and the pressure is most severe when the aligners are put back in after eating/cleaning/brushing the teeth, but again, this is a feeling i revel in because it is a reminder that the aligners are doing their job!

I am now onto my 3rd set of trays and have yet to experience any type of complications even with the introduction of my attachments which were put on yesterday. My first 2 sets of trays were worn for 14 days each and I found this to be counterproductive, for me, i think 10-12 days per tray should suffice and so my ortho gave me the all clear and told me 10 days for each tray would be fine!

I don't want to "jump the gun" but I am very impressed with the changes that I've noticed from as early as 2 weeks into treatment, i can feel (with my tongue) and see (with my eyes ahah) quite obvious changes already and so i am very excited to see further changes on my quest to a perfect smile! I will continue to update you guys and girls as often as necessary and if I have missed any points please don't hesitate in asking!

Thanks!

Thank you for sharing with us!  :)  We are getting more and more people from Sydney, so I think it'd be helpful if you'd provide your doctor's information.  You don't need to rate them at this stage, but the name and location would be very helpful.  Our other current Invisaligner in Sydney is SophieD.

Before pics would also be great, to see what can be accomplished in less than nine months :).

You mentioned that you'd be getting attachments with this current tray--did that happen?

And tips on how you manage 23 hours/day would probably be helpful for lots of people.  We have one other user, PreOrtho, who does 23 hours/day.  I don't think anyone else in our community even tries to hit 23 :D!

How do u manage to have them out for only 1 hour a day. Do you only drink water and eat quickly. I thought i was good at time management but by the sounds of this you leave me for dead lol
haha i've had to compromise oral hygiene to achieve 23 hours! Am not always able to thoroughly clean my teeth when i'm not home so I settle for a rinse and put my aligners back in. Also, I do drink coffee with my aligners in, probably not the wisest move but I'd never be able to achieve 23 hrs otherwise!
Ahh i see, tricky tricky :) Your progress looks great btw!
