Recently I had a bit of melt down and decided to have a S lift and a neck lift . I've become more aware of saggy neck ( oh to age gracefully) . I sought to have this done by a doctor who is a cosmetic surgeon and a specialist in fraxel , but does face lifts as well. During the consultation he pointed out every thing that he considered wrong with my face, pigmentation , wrinkles , droopy eye lids , the list goes on and on . I'm 52 yo and have looked after my skin since I discovered skin care in my teen years . I've had Botox since I was in my 30s due to being a serious frowner . I left the consultation feeling pretty much resigned to having the procedures he recommendation at a cost of AUS $17000 . I had some niggling doubt about the doctor as he was very pushy wanting me to sign on the dotted line ASAP , so I decided to consult my GP , a wonderful Doctor who is a similar age . She was so surprised that I was even considering such drastic procedures that in her opinion I don't require , yet ! She was concerned when I told her that the doctor was going perform the surgery ( 4 hour surgery ) in his rooms and not in a hospital . She was further concerned that the doctor isn't a plastic surgeon, but cosmetic surgeon - she said she would never let anyone other than a reputable plastic surgeon operate on her ! This made complete sense to me so I cancelled the surgery . Her advice was invaluable . I will have the procedures one day , but I'll make sure I do my homework. The other piece of advice she gave me is nothing beats a nice smile , white teeth and clear eyes - these are the things people notice ( in her opinion) , these and a great pair of earrings !

An oculoplastic surgeon can be a good choice for a surgeon for the face. This is NOT a plastic surgeon. Anyone who thinks you must have a "plastic surgeon" to do facial surgery is very misinformed. There are important things to consider when choosing a doctor for cosmetic procedures, including specialties, but there is a lot of other criteria that should be used.
