Dr. Pugash VS. Dr. Ward - Surrey, BC

ORIGINAL POST

I have always had small/no breasts, making me feel...

WORTH IT$7,776
I have always had small/no breasts, making me feel insecure. After doing my research and saving some money I narrowed prospective surgeons to either Dr. Pugash or Dr. Ward. I set up consults with both.

Dr. Pugash and his staff seemed 'cold' when I went in for the consult. I felt like a 'number' or 'money' rather that a client or potential patient; rather than focusing on me during my appointment Dr. Pugash went back and forth between myself and another client. Additionally, there was no follow-up offered after the surgery; I was told I could travel home the same or next day after surgery (4+ hour drive away) and wouldn't need to come back.

I went with Dr. Ward for my surgery for a number of reasons. The pricing was approximately the same as Dr. Pugash's; however, it included 2 post opp appointments the week following the surgery as well as a 6-8 week post opp appointment and a 6-18 month post opp appointment. I was told that I should definitely not travel long distance for the first few days after the surgery. Dr. Ward was both more technical and informative than Dr. Pugash during the consultation. I felt like I had Dr. Ward's complete attention, and that his recommendations were both genuine and specific to me and my body. Dr. Ward's staff were (and continue to be) extremely friendly and helpful. I am just over 3 weeks post opp. and am quite happy with my implants (Mentor cohesive gel - high profile - under muscle); I highly recommend Dr. Ward.

I was impressed by both Dr. Ward's comprehensive consultation with me, and by his office staff's superbly reassuring attention every time I have anything to do with them. I would have had no problem with the skill of Drs. Pugash, Mosher, or Lee, but there were 2 significant motivations to choose Dr. Ward, other than his professional strengths being obvious from research, including a positive reference from my GP. However, the second deciding factor was his private surgical overnight facility, which his staff proudly recommended to give me the absolute best and most attentive care possible, especially since I would be the only patient that day, as it turned out. That made my decision final, as I've had the most horrible experiences in my local hospital, including a burst appendix after 3 emergency roof visits for it..and especially nasty nurses in emerg on other occasions there over 20 years. That doesn't include 2 doctors who would have killed 2 members of my family by sending them home without proper treatment, and we luckily decided to take them to VGH and Children's on 2 separate occasions. I was motivated by that to really look forward to what Dr. Ward's office nurse assured me was just a very special and personal care experience. Well, beginning with the receptionist it was really egregiously disrespectful at the worst and plain cool in terms of both her, and the LPN who was on duty from the time I woke up in the afternoon till thenext morning. The latter seemed to be being protected from work by the very good 2RN's who were on for successive shifts, with the overnight nurse being particularly attentive. The LPN eventually just disappeared, in the room, close to 11pm or so. I figured she was sleeping behind one of the curtains, and was very glad actually, as she was quite a character, on the computer doing her school assignment she said, except for officiously trotting by my bed to record the vitals at the designated times. I could go on about the details of her outrageous response to my request for a water glass larger than a shot glass, and other items of behaviour, including the egregiously unnecessary one-handed totally vertical injection into my thigh, which was really painful, and caused quite a bruise, which I didn't get in the 10 days of injecting myself prior to the surgery. Both her attitude and that of the receptionist in the first part of the morning, were ones of entitlement, and it sure seemed that the nurses wanted to be on the LPN's good side. I am especially upset because it cost me the best of $5000 more that Dr. Lee's fee for the same procedures, but what's done is done, and I think the $5000 wasn't worth it because of their hospital being so stressful, as they ignored another serious request I made, which, in light of their claims that it would be so attentive, and respectful there, was false. I know that Dr. Ward and the office staff aren't aware of the dynamic up there, where the staff seems to be left to their own as long as they cover certain requirements. I think it's a mistake not to give all your patients a printed form to answer a survey about their care, if you are a business person, too. However, it was the medical issue I brought up, which caused me stress and could easily have been resolved by a visit from Dr. Ward, even if he was busy downstairs. I think Dr. Ward should have seen me just before he went home for the day, or at least phoned to talk to me. Every person is unique, and I will get my next procedure elsewhere, as the Surrey Memorial, or whichever is used by another surgeon, couldn't be any worse for post-surgical recovery. The results are great, and all office staff are stellar representatives of Dr. Ward's business.
Glad you choose dr ward! I will be seeing him in 2+ months and have had a great experience with his office so far. Do you have any other info to share on your experience? Not many ppl on here with dr ward... Non with a BA so I hope you still use this site. Would nice interesting to talk to someone going to the same doc :)
Hope you were as happy as I was with his office and your results.
I'm now 7 months post opp. and still loving my results.
I'm now 5weeks post op and I'm so happy!
I'm booked for surgery with Dr. Ward on June 28. What are your stats and what did you end up with.... Pics?
I have moved your review into the Breast Aug community as I can see you've recently commented below. Hoping you can update your review with some more details. How was your recovery? And what type and size implants did you get?
I too felt like a number but he did offer a free second visit
I too am scheduled for initial consults with both Ward and Pugash for BL/BA. I called about two weeks ago. 9 month wait for consult with Pugash and 8 weeks for Ward. I'm in no hurry, so I am going to wait, and I hear Pugash's skills are excellent.
I went with Dr. Pugash. He was wonderful. He is a bit poshy but very skilled. 4 of my girl friends have seen him and look beautiful. On the other hand a few of my girl friends went to dr. Ward and look fantasic as well. Both of these drs are the right choice imo. I told dr. Pugash i wanted the most natural undetectable implants and that is exactly what i got. Natural looking and through the under arm incision. No visible scars. I am 8 years post op and they are still very nice minus that they are saline. Saline you can feel the bag a lot if you are a thin person. I am hoping to have two more children and will being going right back to Dr. Pugash for gels when i am done. Hope that helps.
If you are a patient woth Pugash he will always see you for free. I have seen him periodically over the years to examine my breasts just like a check up. All free.
