I went into my FFS with a combination of hope, excitement, and fear. After checking with a variety of surgeons and talking with friends to get their views, I decided to go with Dr. Spiegel. This has proven to be on of the very best decisions I have ever made.
I am now five months post-surgery and am absolutely delighted with the results. He promised and delivered on feminizing my face. My close family and friends can still recognize me, but they now see the genuine, feminine version of my face. Strangers have no idea who I used to be. Hearing "ma'am" or "miss" everywhere I go--even without makeup--is tremendous and has been a significant boost to living full time.
The surgery and recovery went extremely well. It is very important to have help from family/friends and follow pre- and post-surgical instructions to the letter. Dr. Spiegel and his staff were exceptionally helpful in that regard; provided a lot of information and a listening ear with any and all questions.
Almost despite being the best in his field, Dr. Speigel's office and bedside manner is warm, unhurried, and professional. He certainly exudes the confidence you'd expect (and want!) from a top-notch surgeon, but without the distance that sometimes goes hand in hand with surgical skill. The other medical specialists and staff are uniformly friendly, responsive, and patient when fielding the inevitable barrage of questions leading up to the big day.
Yes, Dr. Spiegel is expensive and that is certainly something to think about. There are other surgeons doing great FFS work for lower cost. But for me, seeing a genuine, dare I say pretty, face looking back at me in the mirror has been worth every penny.
