Best Surgeon Ever. Fantastic Rhinoplasty & Otoplasty Experience, & Wonderful Results.

I chose Dr. Ezzat as my surgeon for my first and my only facial surgeries, and he simply nailed it. Dr. Ezzat performed my rhinoplasty / septoplasty, and my otoplasty (ear pinning surgery), and I FULLY recommend him to anyone looking for a facial surgeon, especially for rhinoplasty, on the east coast (or beyond - Fly in. He’s that good). MY BACKGROUND: For as long as I can remember, my nose was C-shaped, and I was only receiving about 30% airflow through one of my nostrils. I had a lot of cosmetic asymmetry, and an intensely deviated septum. I wanted my nose fixed functionally, straightened cosmetically, and was also interested in additional cosmetic nasal tweaks: shaving down my dorsal hump, reducing/evening out my columellar show, and refining my nasal tip. I was also hoping to pair another minor facial cosmetic procedure with my nasal surgery (to get some bang for my buck and to get some extra cosmetic benefit for my trouble). Lastly, I am terrified of needles and surgery, have a comically low pain tolerance, and I freak out (and faint, LOL) at doctor’s appointments all the time. So surgery was quite a daunting endeavor for me. MY SEARCH FOR A SURGEON: I’m completely type A and admittedly quite neurotic. I consulted with 12 surgeons for my rhino - some in Boston, some in CT, and some in NYC. I prepped a 27 slide presentation for my consults to clarify exactly what I wanted. Here's what I looked at for each surgeon/consult, and why Dr. Ezzat impressed me: 1. Online reviews Dr. Ezzat had a ton of good reviews, and maybe 2-3 bad reviews, which he was happy to address in our consult. 2. Before and after photos Dr. Ezzat had some clear example photos of times he corrected a C shaped nose, had a high volume of before and afters (might even have the most before and afters for rhino in Boston), had high-res and uniform photos, and his rhinoplasty afters were all quite natural (while still making some more major changes for patients). 3. Board Certifications Board certifications were so confusing to me at first when I began my search. There are 3 types of surgeons you will see when pursuing rhino: 1) plastic surgeons, 2) facial plastic surgeons, and 3) cosmetic surgeons. (Info on all 3 here: https://www.drdavidhecht.com/facial-plastic-surgery/facial-plastic-surgeon-vs-plastic-surgeon/). I decided I wanted a facial plastic surgeon for my rhino, as they specialize in facial procedures, spend the most time doing facial procedures, and don't spend time training on things like breast augmentations which have little relation to facial aesthetics. Ezzat is not a general plastic surgeon - therefore he is not board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. If you pick a general plastic surgeon for any procedure, ensure they have that cert! Ezzat, instead, is a FACIAL plastic surgeon, and is dual board certified with the 2 best certifications for FACIAL plastic surgery. These certs are 1) Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery - American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery & 2) Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery - American Board of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. 4. Education: Dr. Ezzat had a fellowship at UCLA, specialized in facial aesthetics and reconstructive surgery during this fellowship (so all facial stuff that would help for rhino). 5. Hospital/College Affiliations Ezzat is a Director at his hospital - (Director of the Division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at BMC). He is also an Assistant professor at the Boston University School of Medicine. This means he has really nice residents who shadow him at his appointments as they are learning from him. I 100% confirmed with him that his residents DO NOT perform any parts of his surgeries (watch out, some doctors do this!) and I think they aren't even present on surgery day. MY CONSULT I used my consults to feel out a bunch of things. Here were the ones Dr. Ezzat nailed: 1. Focus on safety I came to my consult wanting to talk aesthetics, Ezzat made sure we covered safety. Other doctors I consulted with kept safety as an afternote for their sales pitch. 2. Understanding of desired results Ezzat payed close attention to my explanation of what I wanted in our consult. More importantly - he remembered what I wanted months later. I actually scheduled a follow up once I selected him as my surgeon to review what I wanted a month before surgery. He outlined the EXACT changes I requested, months later, without even looking down at his notes. 3. Expectation management I didn't want a surgeon who would say “yes I 100% swear it will look exactly like that!” to everything I asked for. It would have been a huge red flag for me. I brought my mom to my consult with Dr. Ezzat, and his expectation management approach was her favorite thing about him - he kept me grounded but still excited for surgery. He explained I was going to have my concerns greatly improved, but any surgeon guaranteeing they can copy an example photo perfectly is likely not trustworthy. Dr. Ezzat was super encouraging, but still realistic. 4. Ability to correct my asymmetry I really wanted a surgeon who felt they could deliver on correcting my asymmetry, and had lots of experience with correcting asymmetry. Dr. Ezzat specializes in facial surgery and rhinoplasty. He walked me through exactly how the c shaped correction works, technically speaking, and explained his previous experience with that exact correction. Dr. Ezzat is also a surgeon who operates on patients with serious reconstructive cases - patients who receive gunshot wounds to the face and the likes. Hearing about this from him also made me feel confident in his ability to handle a technically challenging surgery. 5. Volume of surgeries they performed Ezzat is on the high end for nasal surgeries performed - I think 100-200 a year 6. Specialization in nasal surgery I think Rhino is Ezzat’s top procedure. 7. Price I was open to anything below 20k. Dr. Ezzat’s pricing was actually so middle ground/surprisingly reasonable and “low” that I was initially a little concerned. My only explanation for this low pricing, and the only explanation from him, is that the man wants to pick a fair, accessible price for his procedures. 7. Recommendations for an additional procedure beyond my nose This is where Dr. Ezzat nailed in in terms of honesty/lack of sliminess - Dr. Ezzat recommended I might be a good candidate for ear pinning surgery when and ONLY WHEN I asked him what additional surgery he thought would pair well with my facial aesthetics. He did not try and sell me the most expensive additional procedure (Otoplasty is relatively cheap). And Ezzat actually refused to do the potential 4th thing I was interested in having done - a slight brow lift on one side for brow symmetry - because he thought my brow would sag back down in a year or two and it’s be a waste of my money. 8. Attitude towards surgeon selection process Dr. Ezzat recommended I consult with other surgeons before selecting one for my surgery. Green flag. 9. Staff Carla, Dr. Ezzat’s coordinator is an absolute gem. She is so sweet and helpful. She was a huge piece of making my experience perfect. His residents were also very charming and nice to be around. Here were the only negatives I had for Dr. Ezzat that came up in our consult: 1. No projection photos Dr. Ezzat does not create simulated result photos for his patients for them to look at before surgery. It sounded like his philosophy is that they are unrealistic and a bit of marketing gimmick. This was a little disappointing to me as I'm pretty neurotic so I really wanted something concrete to expect. However, Dr. Ezzat and I were able to align on simulated projection photos I created myself and example noses before surgery. So this was not make or break for me. 2. No fancy private facility Dr. Ezzat does not work out of a private practice or a fancy office where they serve you champagne and stuff in the lobby. Dr. Ezzat works out of a real, working class hospital. I think this is so he has better access to trauma patients which are some of the more challenging cases he is interested in. Being in this environment was not make or break for me, as I can live without champagne, and the facilities are still functionally top of the line, clean, and well-staffed. MY ACTUAL SURGERY Here were the positives: - Dr. Ezzat prescribed me an Ativan to take the morning of surgery so I was not really nervous and handled the IV like a champ - Post surgery, I was never in pain, just uncomfortable. - I felt like I had the flu or an intense cold for 5 days. Unpleasant. Not unbearable or torturous. - I was worried about real nasal pain or ear pain, I’m usually very pain prone; and I was so pleasantly supervised with how I felt. - My ears never really ached. They felt sore only when something made contact with them. My donut pillow worked great for sleeping on for a month to prevent anything from touching my ears while they were sore. - My nose was not packed with materials so once nasal swelling went down after a few days I could immediately start to get some air in. - Dry mouth lozenges and electrolyte mix made my whole recovery really easy. Plus the prescribed meds and recommended supplements from my doc. - I recovered enough to go back to work in a week (with my camera off on Zoom bc oh boy those black eyes!) which I thought was pretty fast - Stitch removal was not that bad, just like plucking a nose hair, eyes water, it’s over - Ezzat did my forehead Botox and Botox in one of my brows to raise it for symmetry at my follow-up: super quick and easy Here were the negatives: - Turns out I was allergic to my post surgery pain meds, so I got really itchy 48 hours after surgery and vomited. - I called my nurse at BMC, who picked up right away, and they told me to stop my pain meds and they’d look for new meds if I still had pain - I stopped the pain meds and had no pain and no more itchiness, so that was an easy fix - A surprising side effect of surgery was type my upper lip wouldn’t move properly for a week or two, which is normal with rhino - Black eyes for 2 weeks - For a few months after, residual dark under eye circles - For a few months after, swelling / uneven swelling MY RESULTS - Photos attached, which speak for themselves as far as cosmetic results Nose - C shape: the C-shape of my nose was dramatically improved, my nose is now much much much more symmetrical, and any remaining asymmetry could just be uneven swelling. I should know for sure at the 1 year mark. I’m so incredibly happy about the C shape correction. - Dorsal hump: shaved down exactly how I wanted - Columellar show: evened out/reduced exactly how I wanted - Tip refinement: my bulbous tip was tightened up ever so slightly, exactly how I wanted - Breathing: I CAN BREATHE PERFECTLY. All deviation is gone. Ears: - Minor natural refinement - They are even - Scars fading nicely - They look perfect to me I COMPLETELY recommend Dr. Ezzat to anyone looking to get functional or cosmetic nasal surgery, or any other facial procedures done. Do your research, check out his before and afters, and consult with him to see how great he is for yourself! And a quick note: This review is not sponsored and has not been influenced by Dr. Ezzat or his team in any way. These are all my own thoughts. I loved my experience so much that I typed out this novel of a review, and I’m a real, normal person. Please feel free to message me on here, even with any questions.
