Submental (chin) liposuction - I am very excited as my progress continues

ORIGINAL POST

Submental (Chin) Liposuction

WORTH IT$3,500
First, I want to say that I have been considering this procedure for more than a decade. Throughout my twenties I would have a consultation with a plastic surgeon and debate whether or not I truly wanted the procedure performed, and whether or not I felt comfortable with the plastic surgeon. It is my face, and the last thing I wanted was to make a mistake and have a surgeon overdo the liposuction or risk infection by going to someplace with a "covid deal" and come out botched.I did not know about real self beforehand so I paid $100 consultation fee, which was later applied toward the procedure so I found that very reasonable. I immediately felt comfortable with Dr. Rafizadeh. I paid close attention to his hand gestures, facial expression, and general body language toward my concern over the submental fat below my underdeveloped jaw. Even though the procedure is minor and my case is relatively simple, he did not dismiss my concern nor did he try to pressure me to do it or not to do it.He looked at my face and chin very matter-of-factly and treated me with general kindness explaining what was involved, what my expectations could look like, what the recovery process is like and what the cost is. He did not rush me nor upsell me on any other procedures. He listed as a doctor should, and then he shared his decade's worth of confidence and knowledge in performing the procedure. With that being said, I knew I wanted a mature surgeon because the more years under their belt, the greater their years of experience and practice.Dr. Rafizadeh has three decades' worth of experience performing surgery on both minor and major procedures. I also liked that he himself did not seem obsessed with plastic surgery as I found it very off-putting whenever I met a plastic surgeon who looked like they overdid botox on themselves. With that being said, and I mean this as a compliment, Dr. Rafizadeh has the face and demeanor of a normal human being as did his assistant, who is a woman. I also noted that he treated his staff very respectfully.During the procedure, I felt comfortable. I only received a local anesthetic and was able to talk and communicate with Dr. Rafizadeh the entire time. He checked in with me multiple times, and I felt no actual pain. It is liposuction, and it does feel strange to have something in your face prodding and sucking the fat content away so I would not describe this as a great sensation, however you are numbed.Afterward, I was sent home and came back 5 days later to remove the head wrap and see the progress of my healing. Every person is unique, but I had zero bruising or skin discoloration. I did have a lot of swelling, which is completely normal, and it felt very uncomfortable trying to sleep with the headwrap on because I have extreme difficulty breathing through my nose, but I suffered through the lack of sleep and only took Tylenol for mild discomfort/soreness under my chin. It is one week later and I have some swollenness still, which is also normal. However, my swollenness is still less than the amount of submental fat that I had so my face actually does not look any different yet. When I press around my chin area I feel it is swollen and tender, and I do not expect any major results for at least a month as the body responds and heals. Yet, when I take comparison pictures, I am starting to see more of a jawline and far less of a double-chin each day. What I noticed the most is that my face feels less "weighed down." When I tilt my head down I don't feel the bulge of my neck that I used to, and I feel like I can lay down and read comfortably.I also feel significantly less self-conscious about my side profile. Facial structure is funny that way as I did not have a double-chin from the front, but whenever someone looked at my side profile, it looked like I had no chin and that my neck was engulfing my chin. I had no definition. Zero. I am very excited as my progress continues, and I will see Dr. Rafizadeh again in 5 weeks to compare before and after photos. For me, I think enough of a difference is made by this procedure that I no longer want a chin implant. As far as incision sites go, I see NO scarring. It is closed up and healing and the incision site is a little pink (think of a pimple that is healing). I expect it to continue healing and disappear entirely. It certainly does not look like I had surgery and for that, I am extremely thankful! Yet another sign of an excellent surgeon. :)
