Office review: Protocol over Patient Safety - Spring, TX

ORIGINAL POST

The staff wouldn't let me make an appointment...

The staff wouldn't let me make an appointment without my being referred by another dr. I don't need to waste time going to another dr. just so that dr. can tell dr. Chiang's office that I have a large, unusually shaped, growing mole that appeared after suntanning. I should get this checked asap, but apparently if I have cancer it will wait for me while I go to unnecessary appointments.

Tom with time to waste's provider

I know Spring is a ways from Houston, but you might try Dr. Schusterman. He just removed a mole on my jawline about 8 weeks ago. Cost me $250. The insurance paid the pathology bill.
Maybe they can get you in soon if you explain your concern. I hardly have a scar.

Good Luck.
Thanks so much txmom808!
I am actually live in The Woodlands so I am Spring adjacent.
I shall take your advice. : )
Dear Tom,
Well good luck then.
Please tell the staff that
Dr. S 's favorite patient referred you. He said that to me one time. Lol
His scheduler that I spoke with was as nice as could be, but it turns out that Dr. S. only does cosmetic surgery. She said that he doesn't do cancer assessments.
I will get in touch with them again if I ever need or want something cosmetic done.
Thanks again Txmom808!
Dear Tom,
I thought you Just wanted it removed. That is the only way to know for sure. They remove it and then send it to the lab. The pathologist will write a report to send the doctor. The pathologist has to examine the cells to know definitely whether or not your mole is cancerous.Nobody can tell for sure just by looking.

Now, if you want a doctor's opinion of whether or not to have it removed, then you should see a dermatologist. They can also do a mole removal, but whenever I have let a term do that, the scar was bad and turned into a keloid.

Dr. S does remove moles.
But, if you do go to a dermatologist, you have a much better chance of your insurance paying for the removal. What type of doctor is the Dr. That you were trying to see???
A dermatologist named Dr. Chiang.
Appreciate the sound advice.
I will consider Dr. S for removal if the dermatologist recommends that course of action.
Or for all that matters, you can still consider Dr. Chiang if she is close by you. Once you see the dermatologist, then you will know if you need it removed. Derms are OK. I just would not let them remove a mole on my face or neck where the Big Hole they leave would be visible. That is why I had Dr. S. do it. He probably just removed it as a courtesy to me since I am an existing patient. ? IDK, but I do know that some other ps will remove facial moles. I had one done on my son by a ps at UTMB. It didn't turn out nearly as good as the one Dr. S did for me. Sigh.

Good Luck, Girl.
I am a straight man so calling me "girl" is not preferred. Lol
Also, I don't think that I will be seeing Chiang since it is her office that refused to make an appointment for me unless I am referred by another doctor.
This weird new mole might be cancerous so I don't think that I should be spending the time making, waiting for, then going to another dr. just so that Chiang can hear it from them that I have said unusual mole.
Oh, never mind. I see she's a dermatalogic surgeon. A dermatologist with a scalpel.
Lol
