I went to Dr. Emily Williams for breast...

I went to Dr. Emily Williams for breast reconstruction after treatment for breast cancer and a double mastectomy. The day before surgery Dr. Williams informed me very firmly that she did not want me to have family in the waiting room during surgery. I told her I understood due to the fact that my surgery was a 12 hour surgery. Immediately after giving Dr. Williams my consent as to no family in waiting room, she continued to inform me that she did not want any family staying with me overnight in the hospital. I was shocked, upset, and told her that my husband would not be agreeable to that. Most nurses will tell you that they wouldn’t leave a family member alone in the hospital overnight under any circumstance. I considered canceling my appointment, but my surgery was scheduled less than 24 hours away and another doctor was scheduled to remove the cancer immediately prior to the breast reconstruction. I chose to proceed forward and disregard Dr. William’s ridiculous request as it was not hospital policy. It was not within her jurisdiction to dictate who should stay in my hospital room.
Dr Williams was unprofessional in the way in which she treated me in several regards. I was not entirely satisfied with the results of the surgery as I am a tall person and she placed my belly button two inches higher than it was originally. My original left breast was very slightly larger than my right, but after the reconstruction surgery my left breast was considerably larger than the right to the point that I feel self-conscious. All doctors are in a position that they can cause harm (physical or emotional) to their patients due to the control they have over them. The saddest part of my story is that I had been beat down by harsh chemo treatments and Dr. Williams beat me down further emotionally by calling me a bad patient when in fact the opposite had been said of me. I’m sorry that I cannot recommend Dr. Williams as I am sure she has plenty of satisfied patients.

I'm glad you are cancer free but I am so sorry to hear of your disappointment. Will you be seeking any type of revision? Hang in there and please do keep us posted.

Breast reconstruction is a process of several surgeries to get good results. The first surgery is just to get something there to work with and is not the final result. There will definetely be asymmetry between reconstructed breasts after the intital surgery. You should in no way base your results on the initial surgery.

What kind of surgery did you have? Was it a tram flap that they moved your belly button? Did your husband spend the night with you? After a 12 hour surgery I would hope so..maybe she didn't want anyone pushing your pca button for you..other than that it makes no sense it all..did she think you had a good outcome? Hope you can find someone to do a good revision

She botched my boob job and told me after dragging out apts for a year that she didn't feel comfortable fixing me. And that the pictures I liked of good looking BA surgeries were photo shopped. She said to fix my deformed breast she created that I just needed a better bra! And I compete in fitness bikini competitions. I had to be fixed! She suggested instead I should not compete or be a part of that organization. I left her officer crying multiple times. After my husband finally met her and saw the final consult, he said you are never going back to her again!

Did you post a review for Dr Williams? I have not as of yet but I will. It is unbelieveble how she treated you. She is a complete airhead putting the responsability on you rather then trying to make it right for the botched up job she did. Did you go to somebody else? I had my surgery done by Dr Karp and he did reconstructive surgery for decades and to this day takes care of those people who had their surgeries botched. He has incredible skill. I hope you are doing well.

I am shocked about such abusive behavior and very sorry you had to go through this at such a vulnerable time in your life. I am familiar with Dr Williams. I was not impressed by her at all. She certainly had her own ideas as to what I needed to have "fixed"..unfortunately the results would have been very poor. She was more interested in selling me products and treatements. It is ironic in a way because there are no topical treatments that will make a double chin disappear. I believe strongly that I dodged a major quack by running for the door. The $50 that she charged for the consultation, was the best $$ that I ever spent. Dr Williams is no good and my heart goes out to you.

I'm sorry for such a late reply. I haven't been active on RealSelf much after getting fixed! I found Dr. Pousti here on realself and he did a complete revision on me and I have never been happier. He fixed everything she did to me.
