Im on my 6th day of accutane 20mg, my face is sore, all the pimples are mostly sitting on the skin surface and filled with pus. Anything I can do? When I wake up the pimples are all white. It so disgusting. Is this normal? It is frustrating. Im only dry on my face. It not oily anymore but the pimple are just filled with pus and im scaring. Somebody help!

Yes. Accutane is an extremely high dose of vitamin a that makes your skin exfoliate at higher rates and changes the manner in which your skin produces excess sebum so that you don't produce excess sebum. That's why your face is no longer oily. The white stuff is the sebum and it's coming to the surface to essentially be exfoliated out.The best advice I can give is to use a gentle moisturizer like Cerave and leave your face alone and DO NOT squeeze or pop the zits as you will scar. The pimples will dry out on their own and go away. Let them do that by themselves. It will get worse before it gets better. When you are done with the accutane cycle, ask your dermatologist for a prescription for hydroquinone cream at 4% to put on any dark marks that are left. Use this cream only for spot treatment and definitely do not put it on your entire face. This is a skin bleaching cream and you only want to lighten to dark marks left from the now gone pimples and not lighten up your entire face. I hope your skin turns out beautifully!

Oh, and make sure you use at least 30 spf sunscreen at all times before and after accutane. Your skin will be more susceptible to sun damage because of the accutane and the hydroquinone cream. It would be a shame to go through all of this to get your skin clear and beautiful to only get ugly sun damage from not using sunscreen!

is the hydroquinone cream available over the counter or its only prescription?

Prescription for the strength of 4% I referred to. I'm not aware of any lower strength OTC ones besides what might be referred to as skin bleaching creams on laymans terms. The prescription one is under a hundred bucks and lasts years so there's really no need to mess around with lower quality OTC.

Completely normal!! My whole family has been on accutane, it gets worse before it gets better and basically all the sebum in your glands will be pushed out through your skin and it seems like it's just making your skin worse. But give it time and u will start to see clear skin! It will be flaky and dry and not glowing and nice, but when you are officially done you will look amazing!! Always wear lots of sunscreen and a hat if u can. Also just so u aren't alarmed if it happens...my sisters and mom have all been on accutane twice. It sometimes works after one cycle but then after a couple years your breakouts may come back not as bad, and then u just do another cycle of u have to. U may never have to go on it again, I'm just letting you know that a lot of people do, so not to get discouraged if it does happen. U are beautiful and it's hard to get thru the full cycle but SO worth it!!! Congratulations!!

Completely normal. I had a very terrible IB . The acne flared on my entire face, neck, back, chest and shoulders, with lots and lots of pus itching underneath each pimple. I'm on day 20 10mg still with plenty of pimples that are slow------ly going away. Brace yourself it might get even worse.

I checked a few pharmacies yesterday and they don't have it. I hear its banned, maybe that the reason. Had to go for an alternative; Demelan, I hope it works

One month is finished while im stl on accutane that how I look today. Not much change just the dryness of my skin. I had a very bad breakout when I started the treatment, I believe maybe that why it is taking so long to clear. No much pus filled pimple as when I started. And my face skin is no longer sore. I suffered from a very sore neck, I could not turn my neck after waking up in the morning but im thankfull that it is now not as bad, sometimes I won't even notice it. The back pain is there but it is not so bad. My lips are also dry but nothing unbearable I think it because I am on a low dosage of 20mg a day.

Hi. I am at day 14 and super bad breakout. I was wandering about the dosage too. I have the 20 mg a day. What does it change with higher dosage?

Hey Ina Libra, it's pretty common for doctors to start people out on a lower dose, here' s more information on that.  You should write a review too!
