Reviews you can trust, from real people like you.
How it works
  • Our highly-trained Review Moderation team evaluates all reviews before they're published to ensure they're written by people like you and not a member of a doctor's office.
  • This multi-step process takes up to 24 hours from review submission to publication.
  • Doctors can't pay to have reviews removed or hidden.
  • Reviews are only removed at the reviewer's request or if they violate our Terms of Service.

If you have questions or believe we should re-evaluate a published review, let us know.

Pre Op P2: Researching/Scheduling

*I've already done this part
After deciding Mexico was the route I wanted to take, I knew that the most important thing was to find a physician that is board-certified, had easily identifiable credentials that I could cross-reference on the government website, etc. I looked at several doctors on here and on other various forums/articles. I ultimately decided that Dr. Jorge Green was the doctor I decided to go with!
I used Renew Bariatrics to book with. They have handled everything promptly and it has been very easy so far. The best part is the communication, it has been top notch! You are also invited to a Facebook group with over 5000 members who have either had the surgery performed by their group of doctors or are waiting to become a new patient. It has been such a wonderful resource so far! I have learned so much through other people's experiences and every question under the sun seems to have been asked - i'm glad i'm not the only one that thinks of the most random things! It is nice having support from the nutritionist as well. Needless to say, I'm feeling pretty prepared.
I'll upload some photos pre-surg plus goodies i've acquired for it this weekend!

Pre Op P1: Introduction

I’ve been reading reviews, watching videos and lurking RealSelf and other communities anonymously for years now. I want to share my journey in hopes that it will help others with making their decision, as reviews from others were extremely helpful in me making my decision!

I’m a 33 year old female from the United States. I’ve been overweight for the entirety of my adult life. I was diagnosed with PCOS at an early age and I’ve had two ACL reconstruction surgeries before the age of 15 (I was an athlete). Up until last year, I’ve had normal bloodwork, but now I’m starting to see higher cholesterol levels. I’ve tried several diets, with keto being the most successful. I lost 50 pounds on the diet, finally got back to Onederland to gain it all back and then 25 pounds. It has been a struggle getting back on track and everyday I get more depressed about being obese and my struggles with food addiction.
I knew I would be a great candidate for gastric sleeve but my insurance did not cover the procedure. Paying for it out of pocket in the United States was out of the question. After talking with my PCP, my family and doing a TON of research I decided to start looking into doctors in Tijuana MX.
Now, I’m not afraid of traveling nor receiving care in another country. I have traveled to several other countries and well aware of the perceived image that the USA portrays Mexico as, is just a lie. In fact, hospitality outside of America is extraordinary in comparison. I knew the most important part was finding a board certified physician who has great experience and speciality in bariatrics. I’ll go into details on this process in my next post.
Overall, I’m excited and anxious for my upcoming surgery date. I start my pre-op diet the day after Thanksgiving and allowing myself to enjoy this time as my last treat before I change my lifestyle forever. I am committed and ready to start this journey!!
January 8th is my surgery date!
