Silhouette Instalift - Not What I Was Hoping For.....

I posted on here about this procedure a month or so back. I deleted the post after I went in for a follow-up visit. I had the Silhouette Instalift with Dr. Julius Few in Chicago on October 28, 2016. At the time of the procedure, I scheduled a follow-up appointment for December 9, 2016. It was after that follow-up appointment, that I pulled my review because I wanted to make sure I was giving Dr. Few and the procedure itself -- a fair review.
Here's how everything went:
I scheduled this procedure after seeing it featured with Dr. Few on Good Morning America. I went in for a consult in August 2016. The GMA story stated the procedure cost $3500, but at the time of scheduling, I was told it was $4500. *gulp*
I was early into 52 on October 28, 2016, the day of my procedure. I've always taken really good care of myself and my skin. I've been getting Botox and filler for the past 5 years, with good results. I wanted a little something extra --- I could see the beginnings of cheek sag, aka jowls. At the time of consult, Dr. Few told me I was the "perfect candidate" for this procedure. He did not suggest any additional procedures.
The procedure itself was pretty easy. The only discomfort was the numbing shots they inject along your jawline. The insertion of the sutures was painless. They warned me there may be some puckering or dimples for a short period after the procedure. I did have one very noticeable dimple, but it resolved within hours of the procedure. My face felt sore and you had this indescribable feeling of the sutures inside your face when you moved your jaw a certain way, but that resolved quickly after a couple of weeks.
I followed their directives for recovery. I slept on my back and didn't engage in my usual exercise routine for several weeks. I had no bruising. I also had no results. I told only a couple of close friends that I was doing this procedure. No one has ever made one single comment about the way I look. I also had Dr. Few inject Dysport into my "eleven" lines between my eyebrows....this cost was $1000 --- which I found to be excessive.
By the time I went back for my follow-up appointment on December 9th, I was prepared to have Dr. Few tell me "too bad so sad" or something to that effect. They took "after" photos and pointed out some very faint improvements. So faint that I believe you'd need a magnifying glass, compass and road map to see the improvement. Dr. Few graciously agreed that my results were minimal and stated, "let's give it six more weeks and if the results don't improve we'll add another suture." I thought this was reasonable and verified with him that this would not be an additional cost (which I would've refused) and he assured me, "yes at no cost to you."
This is the moment (early December) I pull down my review from this site, as I want to give Dr. Few and the procedure a fair shake and see what happens before i judge. I went back yesterday (January 20, 2017) for my second follow-up. It's now been 3 months since the original procedure. I actually think my jowl lines have become more pronounced since the procedure. At this point, it's also worth noting that the Dysport from my "eleven" lines between my eyebrows is beginning to dissipate, so I'm feeling like I just can't get it right with my face and I've wasted so much money.
They take photos again and Dr. Few doesn't show me the photos, he just comes in and agrees there's only been a slight improvement and he'll go ahead and put in some filler in my jowls. Filler? I say, "wait, I thought you were going to add another suture?" He says, "no, that will give you a line like a marionette and it will be too obvious." Okay....so why did you suggest this as a remedy last month? I didn't question him further. He also said, "put away your pocketbook, this is on me." (gee thanks....you bet it is on you, since you've already ripped me off).
He put in filler into my jowls (mind you I'm calling them jowls, but they are hardly jowls, just beginnings of minor sag and looks worse in pic than in real life). It does look better, but this is because there is filler there, NOT because of the Silhouette.
It's also worth mentioning that when Dr. Few stepped out, his Fellow (resident doctor) who put numbing cream on me, told me they are seeing some patients whose jowls look more pronounced after the Silhouette. (just an amazing side note of which I'm sure he'd be admonished for admitting, but what a crook to continue to promote the procedure especially at such an above market price for 2 sutures per side)
I would definitely NOT recommend this procedure. It's just way too much money. Stick with what works - filler and botox and surgery.
As for Dr. Few and The Few Institute, they are professional and friendly. Dr. Few is trying to be warm and friendly, but he's not exactly hands on and dashes out of the room as soon as he can. He's robotic and I think he believes his own hype. I won't go back. It's really a shame because I would've linked with him for the next decade as my desire for procedures will eventually go to a facelift. I don't understand why he only did two sutures per side, promised more and then went a different direction. $4500 for the Silhouette + $1k for a vial of Dysport is just a crime.
You would also think Dr. Few would want to stand by his work out of principle and would know that my face is an advertisement for this procedure and I have more than a few friends who would've definitely scheduled an appointment. This has been a tough lesson.

Thanks for sharing, I've been going back and forth on this procedure...I think I'll hold off for now and continue with the botox/fillers. Best wishes to you!

Did your doctor tell you that you do not see the full effects for 5 months? Maybe that is why you are upset about this
January 27, 2017
My doctor told me that full results show after 3 months. It's been 3 months. Do you mean to tell me that in the next two months I'll see my cheeks magically lift and then I'll be happy with this procedure? Doubtful. Thanks for trying.
February 5, 2017
There's noticeable improvement...
February 5, 2017
Thanks. If anything that's the filler. If you had this procedure done you would want someone to notice something. The proof is no one has said anything. Also, where are others pics who have posted favorably about this procedure?
February 5, 2017
I agree with you, but in this pic, I can honestly see a difference. The over all Silhouette InstaLift rating is pretty high, however. Do you think it may have been your doctor? Perhaps he didn't do enough sutures or place them correctly?
February 5, 2017
He definitely didn't do enough (2 per side). This doc claims to be somewhat of a pioneer in this procedure and states he trains other docs. Keep in mind, unless someone posts pics, did they really have it done or are they trying to boost the appeal because they work or know the doc?
Who knows. My point in posting is to caution that this procedure did not work for me. I'm not delusional in my expectation. It was a complete waste of a lot of money. Proceed at your own expense.

I appreciate you sharing your experience, it's definitely gave me pause for concern. Hang in there and take care.
February 6, 2017
Oh my gosh! I to went to Dr. Few and have had the same experience except no fillers were used to improve the result. I am going back this week for additional sutures because I also had no visable improvement. At the first follow up appointment the other doctor tried to tell me it takes 3 months for the full result but I knew better and I told him I wanted it corrected. Dr. Few agreed and at no cost. My appointment is for this week and Iwill report back as to any improvement.
February 7, 2017
Really? This is so interesting. As I stated in my post, I also went back for more sutures and then he reversed his promise and used filler. Sounds like you're more assertive with him than I was. I can't wait to hear if he uses more sutures on you or tries to use filler instead. I feel like he changed course on me because it was more time consuming and costly to put in another suture. He tried to tell me it was because I'd have a visible marionette line.....well then why did you say you'd do it in the first place? I'm done with him. He really let me down.
March 11, 2017
Of note...the above person (aladams) messaged me after her appointment and Dr. Few did the exact same thing to her -- went back on his promise to add a 3rd suture. I wish more people would come forward about this if it's also happened to them. Clearly this isn't by happenstance and there's a method to Dr. Few's scam....I mean madness.

Cathleen B.February 4, 2017
As you can see by my posted picture - really no difference. The slight change is due to lighting in my room/time of day and the filler Dr. Few put in my frown lines (chin) instead of putting in a 3rd suture as he had originally promised. The general laxity in my cheeks remain. Slight improvement - that's the filler NOT the Instalift. I should've taken a picture before the filler because you would have seen ZERO improvement and what I believed was actually a worse look than what I started with.
There is no "lift" about a Silhouette Instalift. It should be renamed, Silhouette InstaWaste. If you believe there's a true improvement - is that worth $4500? I think not. This was one heck of a waste of money. I would've been so much better off sticking with cheek filler and botox. Ugh. Regrets. They're a [RS bleep].
The whole thing makes me so angry at myself. I really went in with blind faith based on this doc and his reputation. I didn't ask enough questions and that's my fault. I can only blame Dr. Few for oddly going back on his word that he'd add a 3rd suture after he also saw no results. ALWAYS ask how many sutures they're going to use. 2 per side isn't enough and shouldn't cost $4500. I also never considered the possibility of no results nor was that presented to me. I believe Dr. Few should've refunded me at least half of this procedure cost or given it to me in a credit at his clinic. I won't be back obviously nor can I recommend this to anyone I know.

wow. I'd be livid after spending that amount of money! So sorry!
February 10, 2017
I am. That's why I'm here. I would be very hesitant to have this procedure done and I would NOT have it done with this doc. I'd also ask to see 'before and after' pics before committing. Mostly, I'm mad at myself. I didn't ask enough questions. I really went in with blind faith.
March 9, 2017
I did not ask enough either! And when I scheduled, they said the money was non refundable if I cancelled the procedure. That should have made me more aware but I had faith. And it did not turn out well.
March 9, 2017
No, was thinking about it tho. I go to Ritacca Center in Vernon Hills IL and they started to offer it.
March 9, 2017
I see....well I would proceed carefully. I think the results are at best minimal and that would only be true if you get at least 3 sutures per side.
I would also ask to see before and after pics of patients this doc has done - which obviously can't show a smiling photo on the after which automatically gives the face a lifted appearance.
Whatever you do don't do this with Julius Few in Chicago - he is full of false promises. A really bad experience for me that's left me bitter towards him.
March 3, 2017
Lots of clarity here and a very useful post, also very fair to the doc and not just bitter bashing like some reviews are. I saw an email promo from a clinic I've gone to before, introductory rate on this procedure is less than $3k so I was going to look into it, and thanks to this review I'm more informed. Thanks.
March 3, 2017
Thanks!! Good luck to you. Proceed cautiously and ask lots of questions. If you get it done, please post pics. I have yet to see any pictures from this procedure that show positive results on this website. I personally think you shouldn't do it - but perhaps you'll have better luck.

You are absolutely correct. In hindsight, when he reneged on the 3rd suture, I should’ve demanded my money back. Unfortunately I also think I signed my life away legally prior to the procedure - so legal recourse would’ve been tough.
It’s been a painful lesson to say the least. My only recourse is to come here and spread the word about the inefficacy of this procedure as well as this snake of a plastic surgeon.

March 11, 2019
sad but I can't see your pictures. wonder if real self took them down
March 11, 2019
I took my pictures down shortly after my original post. If you’re considering this procedure all I can encourage is for you to spend your money on something that works. This doesn’t work. Also find a doc who is not willing to take your money on something that produces incredibly subtle or non-existent results.

I also had this done . Not at the same office but now have lines that are sunken in in my cheek area . It has been a year and they are still visable . The Sinclair Parmaceutical company offered me no help . I was told it would resolve after a few months . It did not lift and left me looking worse ..

So sorry to hear about your results from this procedure. I don’t know why doctors think it’s any better than fillers and Botox when the results seem to be unremarkable at best.

It's March 11, 2017 -- about 3 1/2 months since I threw my money away on this procedure.
Perhaps it's because I didn't have $4500 to begin with, perhaps it's because I think my "issue" or jowls seem worse than before I started this.
Perhaps it's because I still see Dr. Few out on a media tour promoting this procedure.
Perhaps it's because in Splash Magazine (a local Chicago magazine) they promoted this procedure with Dr. Few and when I commented in the comments section my review was immediately removed and when I try to re-post it states my comments are being reviewed and then the whole thing disappears.
I hope women who have this procedure done with Dr. Few or any other doc and get zero to minimal results will keep posting on here to let others know to save their money.

Thank you for your honesty, I hope it'll help others just as much as it helped me in making a decision regarding having this done.
March 15, 2018
That makes me happy to hear my review has caused you to think twice. It’s not that I want to malign the procedure or the doc - I simply want potential patients to know this procedure is a gamble. You are much better off using money for filler and Botox as the results are similar. When you are ready to do more - have surgery, not an Instalift. Silhouette Instalift is NOT a step up from filler and Botox. At best it will produce the same or less results.
February 2, 2019
I don't see your photos, but did see some photos in the gallery with someone who clearly has zero results. Maybe that's you. Great post. Much to consider.
February 2, 2019
I had photos on here for a hot second then took them down. I can’t emphasize enough that this procedure will not give you any better results than you can get with fillers and Botox. At least those injections have near guaranteed results when done right. Bravo to you for doing your research - that’s what I didn’t do plus I put my faith in an overhyped doctor. Good luck. xoxo.

Ugh wish I had seen your comments before I blew 3400 on this procedure. Zero results. I’m going to post my review once I’m a full month out but I can tell it was a waste.
June 28, 2019
I feel your pain. It still irks me to this day when I think how I could’ve used that money for a lower facelift. Shame on all docs who steal people’s money for such a silly procedure. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you so much for sharing your story with us. I hope you find support in the community.
