37 Year Old Mother of 2, Much Needed - Shreveport, LA

2 week update

$15,000
It's been two weeks since my surgery, and I feel leaps and bounds better! I will be back at work in about a week. So far I've lost 22 pounds total, but I don't weigh myself that often. I really don't want to get too scale obsessed. I just have the hardest time eating and drinking. I eat way less than what is recommended, even though I try to eat more, I physically can't. Yet, I will keep trying, I have to learn as I go.

Day after

It is the day after surgery! Yesterday was pretty rough as far as pain and discomfort go. The worst was having to get out of the bed and going to the bathroom. I also would get really nauseated, but staff has been good about bringing meds as needed. Today I got up and walked around the hospital so that has helped with pain and discomfort.

I am a 37 year old mother of 2, who after much self reflection and denial, decided to opt for bariatric surgery. For the past decade I have been struggling to lose weight, only to lose a little and gain it all back plus more. I am blessed to not have any major health issues, and that's what I'm trying to outrun now. I was actually a healthy weight all of my childhood and into early adulthood. However, postpartum depression, depression, and anxiety showed their ugly faces in my life and my weight skyrocketed. I am now in a place mentally and spiritually where I can address the physical aspects of my life that I'm not happy with. I look forward to being more like myself, instead of this bloated shell I've been. I've been quietly "lurking" (haha!), reading reviews and contemplating whether or not to have the surgery, and if I should or shouldn't share my journey. I would like to thank all the people who have shared their stories on RealSelf, it's not easy to share something so personal that may face scrutiny. You probably helped someone like myself.
My starting weight is 285, and I'm a short 4'11, so I'm probably as round as I am tall. Sad, but true, I've put this off as long as I could. Now, I have to face reality and do something about it! I was on a high protein, low carb liquidish diet for 2 weeks and lost 8 pounds. I cheated a very little bit, so I honestly could have probably lost about 10 if I hadn't had a couple of weak moments. Anyway, that puts me at 277 as of right now, and I have my surgery at 5:30 tomorrow morning. I'm a ball of excited, nervous energy right now!!! I've been so nervous, as I didn't want to jinx anything! Now I'm just ready to get started on my new journey. I'm rambling now, so I'll go ahead and wrap it up! I'll update after the surgery tomorrow! -p.s. PRAY FOR ME!!!!
* I don't like taking pics, so I'll either have to take some or look for some to post!

Hi there, and welcome! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us. How are you doing now? Has the nausea eased? It'd be great to read another update :)

I'm doing so much better! Thank you for asking. Right now I only hurt after being busy all day in the evening. I haven't had much nausea lately, except when I try to incorporate new food. My doctor said I could have eggs, my new stomach said I couldn't! :(

Glad to hear things are improving! I guess it'll take some time to adjust to your new eating habits, and find the foods you can handle. It'll all be worth it when the weight starts falling off! Do you think you'll feel confident enough to share some before and after photos at some point?

Thank you for all of your help and insight. I need to take pictures honestly, so I can see my progress. I guess that's what I can do next. I've already started losing faster than I realized.

Thank you! It'd be great to watch your progress, and to help us all support you. Keep the updates coming! 22lbs is a great weight loss :)
