Dr Merriman has assembled a powerhouse of no bs support and care for bariatric patients. Kat keeps me mindful of my band and Lisa keeps me mindful of my plate and all the ways we try to sneak around healthy habits and choices for a successful lap band weight loss experience. I need these people on my team for support and accountability. We’ve all been lied to by the diet and food industry and we’ve all been lying to ourselves for years about our addictions and challenges. I am grateful for the support, encouragement, and - let’s face it - the occasional butt-kicking I get (and need) from a skilled team who genuinely cares about my health, my weight, and my relationship to food. Combined with a healthy dose of therapeutic work to tackle the mind-side of food addiction and feelings-feeding, working together with these amazing clinicians has me hopeful and prepared for successful weight management. I’m smitten!
Dr. Merriman is a wonderful doctor & very thorough with his exams and helping decide which surgery fits you best. He is straight to the point and very confident in his work. Love him and his staff. They are so helpful in all areas.
Dr. Merriman is amazing doctor and his entire staff is wonderful! He is very professional and accommodating. He explains everything so that you fully understand the process. Everyone I have encountered there is courteous and kind.
Dr. Merriman and his staff are absolutely wonderful! This experience has been life-changing. I recommend this practice to anyone. They are with you every step of the way. If you are having any issues, the support is always there for you.
Dr. Merriman is amazing! He not only has great bedside manner, but Dr. Merriman is also thorough and cautious in treatment. The aftercare support is the best part of his practice. Weight-loss surgery is not a solution but rather a tool, and Dr. Merriman places great focus on patient aftercare, on-going nutritional education, and any other post surgery support needed. Highly recommend!!
With the guidance and assistance from Dr. Merriman & his staff, my surgery was a success. I'm feeling like I am able to participate in anything I like & I would recommend them to anyone interested in weightloss surgery.
Dr. Merriman’s educational class was awesome because he explained the history of bariatric surgery to how things are presently. He gave excellent analogies helping to clarify things in layman’s terms. What I appreciated most was his complete honesty in setting the proper expectations and my part to play in my own success.I have to “do the work.” Something I’ve been hearing lately in every aspect of my life. The good thing is, Dr. Merriman is providing the knowledge and tools to do so,“IF” I follow the instructions, I will be successful this time. Updated on 16 Jun 2021: I have had a great experience with the dr and staff. From pre opto post op. Lisa is amazing and helpful with diet. I do not think I would have had the amazing experience with any other practice. Dr Merriman explained everything in great detail.
I have had a great experience with the doctor and staff from billing and insurance to front desk and nutrition and love all of the support in between. This is a great office and I am proud to start my weight loss journey with them!
Very professional, great sense of humor! Timely, and knowledgeable! Highly recommend! I have been wanting weight loss surgery for years but really wanted to do my research first, I’m really glad I found Dr. Merriman. I’m much more comfortable with proceeding with the procedure now.
From the first time meeting Dr. Merriman it felt as if I had known him for years! He was very friendly and warm during our initial meeting! Dr. Merriman and his staff are very kind and also knowledgeable! They make their office very welcoming! I look forward to my visits with them!
The most common statement I hear from my patients is "I wish I had done it sooner." As a 20 year old who is already suffering from this very complex disease, addressing the issue before is gets worse is a good plan. Even at a young age at your weight, serious health problems like high blood pressure and diabetes can begin to develop and will likely worsen with age. To know if surgery is right for you, I recommend you research bariatric surgeons in your area. Look at the reviews by their patients on Google, Real Self and social media. Attend/watch educational seminars by the different surgeons and then book a consultation. You may want to book with more than one doctor to see which one you feel is the best fit for you as a patient. But ultimately, I encourage you to find a surgeon who is a fellow of the ASMBS and has a comprehensive Preoperative and Post-Operative education and support program. Best wishes!
At 5'2" and 185 pounds, your Body Mass Index (BMI) is about 33.8. This BMI would not qualify you for surgery. If you have a BMI between 35 and 40, you can qualify if you have significant health issues related to your weight such as Diabetes, Hypertension, Obstructive Sleep Apnea as examples. If your BMI is over 40, a patient would qualify without documented health issues. If you do have major health issues, I would encourage you to have a consultation with a qualified Bariatric Surgeon and actually get your height measured and weigh at the doctor's office as just a few pounds can make a big difference and sometimes home scales are not accuarate.
Having C-Sections prior to weight loss surgery in general should have no impact on qualifying for the surgery. You would of course have to qualify related to your current weight, Body Mass Index (BMI) - in general 40+ or 35+ with serious health issues related to your weight. Also, you would need to complete a bariatric psychological evaluation and any other guidelines required by your insurance and chosen surgeon. As always, I recommend choosing a certified ASMBS surgeon with documented experience and positive outcomes. Best wishes!
Although the treatment can be very hot, the machine is completely adjustable so that each treatment can be customized to the tolerance of the patient. Unless you had some preexisting skin sensitivity which would not allow you to tolerate it even on the lowest intensity. Another issue is hair. You should have been completely shaven as hair can cause arcing with the unit which can be painful. I would recommend contacting the provider and speaking with the MD that should be supervising the treatments if you don't get an answer to these issues.
If I read your questions correctly, you have already had a Gastric Bypass. If this is the case, you are not eligible for any gastric balloon. It is possible you might be able to have a revision of your Bypass or you might consider a Lap Band addition to your Bypass. I recommend finding a board certified surgeon who specializes in bariatric surgery and is part of a MBSAQIP accredited program. Good luck to you.
