In September 2025, I underwent an endoscopic facelift and neck lift with Dr. Ali Çetinkaya in Istanbul, Turkey. Following the surgery, I developed multiple serious complications, including:
• Tissue necrosis along both temporal incision lines, resulting in permanent scarring alopecia.
•Persistent blurred vision in my right eye that has never returned to normal.
•Hypertrophic scarring behind my left ear and pixie ears deformities
• Lagophthalmos (2 mm incomplete closure of my right eye) and lateral canthal over-tightening, as documented by a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon.
• Severe neck tightness that made swallowing and opening my mouth difficult for several months, along with a persistent sensation of a lump in my throat that continues to this day.
Overall, the aesthetic outcome of the surgery is very poor. My facial features became noticeably distorted, while the intended rejuvenating effect was not achieved. In fact, I look older, not younger.
For the first two months, severe skin tethering, deep unnatural indentations, and tissue pulling left me unable to work or live a normal life.
My eyes became smaller, excessively upturned, and unnatural. I developed new under-eye bags and skin bunching that never existed before surgery, and my right eye is now noticeably smaller than my left.
Several facial plastic and oculoplastic surgeons told me that they believed my complications were primarily related to excessive tissue tension and an overly aggressive vector of pull.
I now face complex revision surgery to correct my eyes, under-eye deformities, and pixie ears, as well as a hair transplant. The procedures will be emotionally exhausting and extremely expensive.
After I provided Dr. Ali with medical notes from a board-certified oculoplastic surgeon, he stopped communicating with me. He said it was because I had sought other medical opinions and discussed my complications in facelift-related WhatsApp groups. I had no choice but to seek help from other specialists, and after I shared photos of my complications in his official WhatsApp group, I was removed from it by administrator.
Complications can happen to any plastic surgeon. What defines a surgeon is how they respond. A responsible surgeon stands by their patient, helps manage complications, and, when appropriate, offers revision surgery or contributes to corrective treatment.
In my opinion, abandoning a patient after serious complications is neither professional nor ethical.
