Post 4 Months

It’s just over 4 months and I’m beginning to feel the numbness subside in the bridge and the tip of my nose. I may have some residual numbness in my tip for another couple of months as I know this is the last to settle. I don’t believe my surgeon reduced my tip, which I was hoping he did. I had assumed all this time perhaps it’s just still so swollen. I’m beginning to think he didn’t touch the tip at all. That’s the only complaint I have at the moment.

Progress

Well it’s officially been 6 weeks since surgery. Swelling is staring to come down gradually although I know it won’t be complete for another 6-12 months. Patience, patience. My nose has been congested for 2 weeks. It’s almost like I had a head Cold. Off smells and phlegm is present and a bit obnoxious. I am able to blow my nose now and I still use the saline irrigation in the shower to loosen stuff up and blow it out. Sometimes it gets dry and I still bleed a little here and there but overall it’s improving day by day. It’s gross but I suppose old blood build up is normal and the off smell of mucus is the normal process of healing. During last week, I had some firm bloody clumps of “build up” come out my left nostril and then again out of right one a day or two later. Immediately I was feeling more clearly. I don’t have any major issues, I still have some mucus in the back of my throat but not as much as the 1 month post op. I called my surgeons office and they said perhaps it was a cold but I said I was NOT sick and It was NOT a Cold, so I assume it’s part of the body’s healing process. I still do my nasal pressing exercises a couple times a day and I put Vaseline up my nostrils to keep it moisturized during this dry winter season. I’ve gotten used to the swelling - A little contouring can help with the appearance. I’m looking forward to seeing gradual reduction of swelling the bridge is starting look more defined. I really hope the tip size reduces in 6 months. My follow up isn’t for another month. I literally had my cast taken off and then wasn’t scheduled per the follow up for 2 months! Kind of weird but I guess there really isn’t a need to get frequent check ups.

Reveal day: cast / splint & frontal stitches out

After the first week, it was time to go to the doc’s office for my first reveal. I could tell that the tip of my nose was tilted slightly up and the tip was very much swollen (like all surgeons advise).
Dr. G was so quick and attentive and he advised me on the nasal exercises that I was to perform for he following 6-8 weeks. I found a website online where it describes exactly what these were with diagrams and all.

It was very painful to do these for the first week. I would ice the sides of my bridge and press and then ice after the exercises too.
Now each day I am still healing, still sleeping in an incline and taping my nose a night to reduce swelling.
