I got a few surgeries done in Korea but for the sake of this review, I will focus on the one this review is about.
After a few online consultations, I decided to get my work done at Banobagi clinic which is located in Seoul. I spoke with them through a messenger app before arriving and was able to organize pick-up from the airport as well as accommodation nearby the hospital.
The clinic is not as big as some of the other hospitals I saw online like ID or Wonjin but the design of the building is very nice and the inside feels more like a hospital than the clinics I’ve visited in the past. It seemed a bit ‘better’ in a sense I guess. The weird thing was they had a lot of foreigners in the lobby which was interesting. When I arrived at Banobagi, I met with the staff member I was in contact with and for respect for privacy, I will just call her, ‘Amy’. She guided me to the 2nd floor and I had my first in person consultation with dr. Lee, Hyun taek.
The consultation itself was very long since I was getting quite a bit of work done on my entire face as I anticipated. The Face contouring surgeon, Dr. Oh Chang hyun was very kind and informative in his answers. The translator we had with us also made things easier. I was shown a few before and afters of patients. At the time I remember being very nervous after seeing the immediate after pictures of other patients that had jaw surgery. I was told to expect quite a bit of swelling. I was going to get my cheekbones reduced and they were going to cut part of the bone. Recovery was going to be around 2-3 months. I scheduled the surgery for the very next day.
Surgery day. The clinic seemed to have everything ready. Amy took me to a testing area which was required before being put under anesthesia. The tests seemed pretty standard (blood, EKG, etc). Afterwards I was led to the operating room and I saw the surgeon Dr. Lee and Dr. Oh. They explained once more what they were going to do and how long the operation was going to take. Doctors made a few marks on my face with a marker and I was out cold after that.
After surgery. I remember waking up in the recovery room. Face hurt like hell. The top of my scalp stung a bit but most of the pain was around the sides of my face. But it was more tolerable than expected. The swelling was similar to when I had my wisdom teeth removed. After the surgery a nurse came by the room I was in and briefed me about how to take care of myself for recovery. I remember it was no drinking/smoking and eating soft foods. Keep chewing to a minimum. I had to rinse my mouth often since I couldn’t brush my teeth.
My stay in Korea was over a month in total so I went back to the clinic at least once a week for after care treatment and check up. I was told I was recovering nicely as expected and my swelling went down considerably after the first week mark. The recovery process for the next couple of months was tough but very worth the discomfort. I got bone reduced from my face and I think my look has improved in ways I cannot describe. As my face started to heal I was able to see how good the results were and I am very thankful everything went smoothly.
