I’m a 60 year old mom of three and was starting to look tired and because my mouth was starting to turn down at the corners, all the long, hard hours of work and lack of sleep took a toll on my facial appearance had developed excessive laxity in my facial skin that led to a very tired and often angry or sad appearance. My eye-lids were hanging over my eye lashes and my cheeks were drooping which led to a hollowness under my eyes and deep nasolabial folds. I had also developed jowls, and a turkey neck as I grew older I did not like what I saw in my face & neck, it didn’t match how I felt about life.
Currently I was back in the US soil and after a long thought I decided it's time to see Dr. Myung-Ju-Lee, (I'm a regular patient of VIP clinic while working for the Army Hospital in Yongsan, Seoul Korea in 2011 ), I flew all the way from California to Seoul Korea for consultation. When I met Dr Myung-Ju-Lee he examined carefully my concern and recommended for the procedure called High SMAS Lift and Neck lift. Dr Lee thoroughly explained the details of this procedure also to expect to experience some degree of bruising, swelling, numbness and discomfort for the first 1-2 weeks after surgery, and need to limit physical activities until they are sufficiently healed. HIGH SMAS (Superficial Muscular Apo neurotic System) FACELIFT refers to the fibrous extensions that attach through the subcutaneous fat layers of the face to the epidermal (outermost) layer of the skin, allowing the three layers of the facial skin to move together as a single unit. Basically it is the fatty tissue you can grab with your hands as a result of the natural aging process, the facial skin loses elasticity the SMAS membrane layer, and the skin often begins to sag in the cheeks and along the jaw bone. The face develops a square appearance and loses its youthful oval appearance. This loss of elasticity and increasing skin laxity (looseness, sagging) can result in aesthetically unappealing developments that can substantially age one’s facial appearance, such as: a double chin, fleshy jowls, or prominent nasolabial folds (creases running from the nose to the angle of the mouth).The High SMAS facelift, allows elevation of the SMAS tissues at a very high level, much higher than the must-stop-at-the-cheekbone approach. Traditional or classic technique of facelift surgery only addresses the problem of skin laxity in the superficial skin layers, and often produces a tight, pinched look. SMAS facelift lifts the face from the deepest layers, and pulls upward rather than back, which provides a more natural-looking result and decreases the potential for an excessively pulled back appearance. Believable beauty comes not just from tightening. It comes from redistributing the fatty tissues of the face, especially in the High-SMAS region. After explicit explanation of Dr Lee, I decided I will go under this procedure and was scheduled for surgery the next day.When it was time for surgery, I had no worries at all. The anesthesiologist even visited me the day before surgery and went over my medical history with me and what he planned to do the next day in surgery. And he had a great sense of humor and made me feel I was in really good hands. During my procedure, I was put under general anesthesia, and it took several hours Dr. Myung-Ju-Lee utilize incisions made along the lateral hairline to free the SMAS layer from the overlying skin and subcutaneous fat layers, as well as from its underlying attachments. He then tighten and lift the 3-layer unit of facial and neck skin together in an upward direction, placing the tension on the underlying SMAS layer. Dr. Myung-Ju-Lee excise any surplus fat or loose skin, and use sutures to close the surgical incision. On the 7th days after my surgery I was already looking refreshed, rejuvenated and more gentle appearance that was also natural looking and not pulled. I had very small amount of bruising, and a lighter swelling of face, and slight discomfort, and most importantly smoother neck (turkey neck) is gone. While recovering from my surgery at the VIP clinic,I received the highest quality of care throughout my aesthetic enhancement experience. All the staff truly pampered me from head to toe (Mina-shampooed my hair on the 3rd day and to the rest of the following days) Dr Lee and Dr Song follow up everyday with the sutures cleaning,& IV antibiotics treatment for infection (I'm loaded) everyday. I like to mentioned and give an outstanding kudos to Ms. Joanne (VIP manager) for taking care of my financial. She arranged my transportation from pick up and drop off to the Inchon international airport. Today is my 6 months of my surgery for High SMAS facelift and I look entirely refreshed and definitely 10 years younger. My results is fantastic!! Coworkers and friends have told me how good I look and asked me if I lost weight or have been exercising. They have no idea I underwent surgery. My cheeks no longer droop; you can see my natural hazel brown eyes; and I have a chiseled jaw and chin. The incisions are well hidden and not noticeable at all. It is even hard for me to find the incisions.
