Abnormal Reaction?

I bought 3 sessions of Secret RF and had my first session done 2 days ago. The PA did put on numbing gel, but I still experienced severe pain during the procedure that I almost did not finish. My whole body was trembling and shaking from the pain. I thought this was normal, until the next day when I started reading everything I could about this procedure, and it sounded like most people said there was little or no pain involved! I was very red and many spots bleeding right afterward. My face is still slightly swollen and still today (2 days after procedure), you can see almost every puncture mark filled with dried blood...looks like an aerated lawn, with grid marks. I have felt like I have a bad sunburn. Can someone please enlighten me on why I'm experiencing a much different reaction than the majority of others reviews on this site, and why I had so much pain during the procedure? Absolutely dreading going back for session #2!! Thank you in advance for any insight!

Sounds like the technician either put the wrong gel on your face or didn't allow enough time for it to numb.

Definitely alert the doctor in charge as to what happened!

I have had the same experience and I usually tolerate pain and procedures well. I did my second treatment today and it was so painful and she even left the numbing cream on for an hours this time. When I did research after my first session, I found the same thing you did: people saying they had little to no pain and it was tolerable. I think my 2nd session was definitely more intense and I had a lot more blood marks all over my face afterward. I get the grid marks on my face too. So you’re not the only one, girl. I did tell my technician that I want her to use the intensity that she would recommend based on my skin... (I’m doing it for acne scarring). She told me she is doing it intense but within the range that Cutera puts in place.

Thank you for your response! I'm sorry you experienced intense pain too! My second treatment yesterday went so much better for me! She put on extra numbing cream and left it on longer. I hope you get awesome results and the pain will all be worth it!

You’re not alone. I had the same experience both times and the numbing gel was on for at least 45 min-an hour. I had a solid week where I wouldn’t go out in public. I’ve had pretty decent results with just two treatments although I feel like I can still see the grid marks on my chin area (last treatment was on feb. 14)

My grid marks lasted a long time too! I had my 2nd treatment done yesterday and she put on extra numbing gel and left it on longer and it really helped. Hopefully we'll get the results we're looking for to make up for all this pain! Good luck!

I have found the after starting my Retin A treatment back up it has reduced the marks. I’m sure I’m the only one who notices them though :) I’ll probably do another treatment come winter (it’s easier to hide when it’s unbearable outside) I hope you get the results you’re looking for!

I had a very similar experience. I bought 3 sessions. I had my 1st session in March and numbing cream applied to face 30-45minutes prior. It was SEVERE pain. I wasn't sure I would make it through the session. My legs were shaking so bad. I have had several different non-invasive face procedures and never experienced pain like this. I also watched videos and read everything I could prior to the first session but no one said it was painful like I experienced. I dreaded my 2nd treatment as well. However, since I get mine done a PS office they gave me a prescription for Xanax and Narco to take prior to the 2nd procedure (yesterday), along with the numbing cream. Unfortunately, that still did not help much and it was still very painful. I had to tell the technician to not do it at all on my upper lip, it was just extreme pain for me in that spot. I still have one more treatment and I dread it again. Post treatment is fine for me. I look like I have a bad sunburn for about 24-48 hours but then it goes down and have no issues. I really couldn't tell much as far as it helping my skin yet. I just hope it is worth the cost and pain.

2nd session today

I went in early for my 2nd session of Secret RF to have the numbing cream put on 35 min. before the procedure began. The procedure was like the difference between night and day for the pain...I couldn't understand why it barely hurt this time when the 1st session was almost unbearable! She said it was set at the same settings and it was the same machine. I did have the numbing cream on a bit longer than last time, but I find it hard to believe I barely made it through the procedure because of pain the 1st session and this time it was almost painless?? Also, my face does not have the racetracks like last time and it is not nearly as red, swollen, or painful.

I had my second session a few days ago and found the same thing. This session was much more tolerable and my skin is recovering quicker as well. I tend to think it's the thickness of our skin increasing and the building up of collagen. I was a huge mess the first time around.. day 3 and the redness is almost entirely gone. A lot of tracks the first time too and far less noticeable this time.

Not a big enough difference for the cost

I had a total of 3 sessions. As stated in my first post, the first session was incredibly painful...to the point of not wanting to go back for my 2nd session out of 3. Although, enough time passed before I could get in for my 2nd session (Covid) and it turned out it was almost painless! I have no idea why! I asked the PA who did the procedures on me and she had no answer for me. The 3rd session was a little more painful than the 2nd, but totally tolerable! Truthfully, I don't see much of a difference in my skin since having these 3 procedures done. If given the chance to start over, I would NOT spend my money on Secrete RF. I'm 56 years old. I had plenty of wrinkles before this procedure and unfortunately I still do!
