Dr. Sajan and his staff have been amazing from...

Dr. Sajan and his staff have been amazing from start to finish. I knew from my first consultation that I wanted to trust my body and health to him for this procedure! I feel that he's a great and rare mix of very professional but also "warm and fuzzy".

I'm a mom of three and gained a lot of weight during pregnancies. I've since lost all of it and really want my body to look even better than it did when I got married. Unfortunately stretch marks and extra skin don't go away. Ever. I had a breast reduction 16 years ago and was debating getting a lift with tummy tuck and liposuction. I decided to save the lift for another time. I'm quite a bit older now and was a bit concerned about the recovery, but Dr. Sajan put me completely at ease and reassured me several times that they were going to take excellent care of me and that I could call his personal cell anytime I felt I needed to. Luckily it didn't come to that because they were so thorough with explanations and because I'm pretty low maintenance in general. However, I definitely felt comfortable calling if I needed to.

The office is in Ballard in the same building as UW medical. I know this is silly, but I liked how discreet that was and that no one would know I was having a cosmetic procedure done. Make sure to leave just about 5 minutes to park and get up to the office. It's not a problem at all - some Seattle parking can be such a pain.

The office is beautiful and modern and shared with other doctors (I believe everyone is a plastic surgeon). There were always a few other patients in the spacious lobby, but the seating is plentiful and there are more private places to sit if that matters to you.

Your first interaction will most likely be with Stephanie, the patient coordinator, who is lovely and kind. She really seems to care about her patients and will take as much time as needed to help you make financial and esthetic decisions.

It really struck me how Dr. Sajan and his staff took so much time and consideration to help guide me through this process. An elective procedure like this can be harrowing and you can be plagued by indecision and doubts. You certainly don't need to be worrying about whether your doc and nurses care about you, or that you're just another notch on the stethoscope. ;)

I had my surgery today and everything went as smoothly as could be! Thanks to the team at Allure I knew exactly what to expect and they executed their care of me PERFECTLY. I'll continue to post photos as I heal. This site has been invaluable as a resource and I want to give back! Good luck to you all and if you decide on Dr. Sajan and his team be assured that you'll be treated like a very good friend.

Day of Surgery & Before Photos

Yesterday went great. The doctor's first surgery went an hour late so I checked in at 10 am instead of nine. The surgery center is very nice and is located next to Alderwood Mall. That was super convenient for my hubs as there were lots of lunch choices available. As it was, he was able to work from one of the rooms in the office. They do have WiFi available for those that need it.

As always, one of the sweet nurses (Gricelda this time) was waiting for me at the door. We went over meds again, took photos and the doc marked me up. During this time I changed and then spoke with the anesthesiologist. He's another wonderful member of the staff! He actually called me a couple of days ago to go over what he'd be doing to keep me comfortable and nausea free. I've only had one surgery in my life and I was super sick afterward. He made sure that I wasn't this time - and thank goodness for that! He just cemented the feeling that I had an entire team of people who have my best interests at heart and they ALL go the extra mile to make sure you know that.

After that it all went pretty quickly. I fell asleep right away and woke up with very little pain. Three noteable things were that I started crying (they warned me about that) and that I felt gassy. I stopped crying within minutes but the gassy, bloated feeling persisted until evening. Everyone was very kind and comforting as I was getting ready to leave. The Dr. assured me that everything went perfectly and that I was free to head home. I noticed upon waking up that my right hand was completely numb. It was strange because it wasn't the hand with the IV. I told the doc and he said it was normal and that it'd go away within a few days. It was pretty annoying not to be able to pick things up, and I kept dropping things and bumping into my chin when trying to eat. Luckily it's almost gone now, so if this happens to you just know that it's normal and temporary!

On the drive home we were stuck in horrible traffic due to an accident and what should have been a 30 minute drive to Bellevue took an hour and a half. I was in horrible pain by the time I got home. I wish that I had taken some pain meds when I first started feeling it because that was miserable!

When I got home my hubby tucked me in my electric recliner (so glad I rented it!!!!), gave me some meds and a bucket load of water. I was soooo thirsty after such a long time of not having anything to drink. I didn't get hungry until 7 pm or so, and I had made some curried butternut squash soup and salad ahead of time so I'd have a delicious, light meal to eat for dinner.

I think the only other thing worth mentioning is the burning sensation in my hips. It was pretty painful even with the max dose of pain meds. It probably lasted about 4-5 hours. After it stopped I noticed that the pads over the drainage sites (I didn't have drain tubes) were soaked. It may be that the burning was caused by fluid buildup and once it drained out it stopped hurting. All I know is that I was grateful when it went away!

I slept on and off all day but I was surprised at how good and alert I felt. I've been taking Oxycodone for pain but the Cyclobenzaprine really helps with pain as well and helps me sleep. The Oxy doesn't make me tired or loopy at all. By the way, I think a lot of my discomfort and soreness is due to the lipo. From what I've read the lipo is more painful that the incision!

Sleep last night was great, no problems at all. Husband woke me up at one and four to take meds and walk around. So far everything is going great!

Day 5 / Post Op

Had my post op visit yesterday, which means it was the first day I've been out of the house. Moving around is getting easier and I've felt less sore today than before. I still can't stand up straight, but that's no surprise seeing as the doc told me it'd be about two weeks before I can start trying to do that. I'm still mainly hanging out in my recliner and walking around 5 times a day for 5 min. My abdomen is obviously still very swollen but the incision is super clean. I got to see it for the first time and couldn't believe that all my stretch marks are gone!! I would most definitely do this all over again and would be much less nervous about it. It's still surgery, but the worst part for me is just keeping still and letting my husband and kids do everything. I'm trying very hard not to micro manage from my bedroom! Lol!

One crazy thing that happened is that when they took my compression garment off at the clinic I broke out in a sweat and felt like I would vomit and pass out. The nurse immediately had me sit down and eat some crackers. I guess it's not unusual for that to happen. I have low blood pressure as it is and forgot to eat when I took my pain meds. Bad combo! I felt much better after a few minutes.

I got to shower finally! It was heavenly to get clean, but what a process! Count on it taking a good 30-40 minutes even with someone helping you. My husband just got in with me and washed my hair and body and then helped me get dressed again. He's been so amazing and supportive through this whole thing - I can't imagine doing this alone.

Also, finally had a bm and it wasn't painful at all. Just be vigilant about taking stool softeners and drinking lots of water and it'll happen. I'm also only eating green smoothies and salads for meals. I assume that's also helpful.
