51yrs Old, Lost 72 Pounds (Twice in 10 Years!) Hate my Sagging Arms! - Scottsdale, AZ

I did weightwatchers and lost 72 pounds in 2007-08, gained it all back and lost it again on WW in 2013. Now that I'm over 50, my skin doesn't seem to have any elasticity left and I am left with a lot of sagging skin. I am 5' 6" and weigh 132 pounds. I've tried to lose more weight, but I can't seem to stay any lower. This seems to be the weight my body is comfortable at. I hate my legs and arms. I been lurking on this site for awhile and finally decided it was time to do something about it. I'm tired of wearing 3/4 length sleeves and longer shorts (plus I live in the Phoenix area and it is HOT here!). So, I made an appointment for a consult with Dr. Spies in Scottsdale. He told me I was a perfect candidate for the arm lift, but suggested a medial thigh lift. I'm disappointed with the medial thigh lift. He showed me what it would look like, and it is not enough for me. I'm unhappy with my thighs, just above my knees and with my calves. The medial lift will not help those lower areas. He told me there isn't anything we can do about those areas (lipo would just leave more saggy skin). So, I'm not going to do that. But, I am excited to do the arm lift! However, I did want to get at least another professional opinion. So, I called Dr. Shapiro today to get a consult, but I was disappointed that they charge $100 for a consult. I thought they all did that for free. I didn't make an appt. Do most PSs charge a consult fee? Can anyone else in the area suggest a good PS for an arm lift? I'm posting some before pictures.

Losing and gaining weight can be so frustrating.  I can only imagine how hot it gets in Phoenix and the need to wear shorter sleeves.

I did a quick search of providers in your area who specialize in arm lifts.  You can find them here.

Please keep us updated on your progress.  Take care!

yes, all Doctors charge the consult fee, no one does it free, it is usually deducted from your surgery fee, good luck

Thanks! I will be sure to post updates and pics.

Some Doctors do and many don't charge, out of over 10 Plastic surgeons I have gone to see over the years for consultations only 2 charged me...

Dee.. none have ever charged me.

I had the medial thigh lift and it did little to nothing to help my hips. I also had a arm lift several years ago. So now, I am now planning a long thigh lift with a surgeon who is known as one of the top surgeons who specializes in post weight loss people. His name is Dr Peter Fisher and he is located in San Antonio, Texas. I live in Gilbert AZ but it's so worth a 2 week medical vacation (Lol) to have just the right person do the job! I learned the hard way...

Is there any one here in AZ that you would recommend I have been looking on here for over a year. I had 1 consult with a DR in Scottsdale for a arm lift, still not sure
September 26, 2016
The only doctor that I saw was Dr. Spies. He did a great job, but I am not thrilled with my scars. He tells me to be patient and they will look better at the 18 month mark.

Honestly most women do travel to find the very best surgeons. Most all plastic surgeons do arm lifts, but only a handful of surgeons specialize in post weight loss people. There is a fine art to the placement (so the arms to not pull and sag over the years as mine have done in the last 4 years) And then also the way they are cut so that there is no pulling or "dog ears" at the bottom (as mine have also done) If I had it all over to do, I would go with a surgeon who specilizes in post weight loss women such as Dr. Fisher. In my case, Dr. Fisher said it would be a hard fix since the cut was in the wrong place. Also, I do not have the money to pay for another revision surgery. So far I have had two procedures by other doctors that needed a whole redo, so now I am adamant about making sure I make a proper decision. It's so much more than finding someone who is confinent.

sorry, that should have been convenient, not confinent...

Thank you very much for your help
I have seen on here some not so good results, that is why I am still looking
I will look for a surgeon that specializes in weight loss as you stated

Huahgirl, I have had just about every post weight loss PS available and I have used 3 surgeons...My last surgeon is known as one of the countries top PS who specializes in Post Weight Loss individuals, fortunately, he was able to correct some of the not so great outcomes from the other two surgeons...I still could use more corrective work but alas, the money has run dry....Anyway the surgeon that I would whole heartedly recommend is Dr Peter Fisher in San Antonio Texas...Well worth a little San Antonio Medical Vacation (actually a really fun town!)

I didn't have to pay for a consult, if you are out of state it's done by phone or if you go see him in person it's without a charge when you are out of state resident.

Who was your doctor? Your scars look good!
March 11, 2016
Some do it for free, but when they charge for a consult it saves them time because only the serious will apply. Also, if you choose them they will credit the fee back to your surgery total
May 15, 2016
But if you don't chose them and chose another PS, you lose the money. That's why I don"t bother with ps that charge

UPDATED FROM deb1125

Pre-Op appt was today, I'm so very excited!

I saw Dr. Spies today. Did all the final reviews of the surgery. My currently measure about 32cm and he said he could take about 9cm off. That is a lot! I need to get 3 rx's filled, an antibiotic, an anti-nausea and a pain med. The final countdown is on! Two weeks from Thursday.

Best wishes Deb...are you buying extra cg? Also, are you getting anything for scaring? I'm 2 weeks after you.
October 29, 2015
No cg for me. He says just ace bandages. (I'm not having lipo). They will go over scar treatment at one of my follow up Appts. Are you excited or nervous? I thought I'd be nervous, but not at all, just super excited.
October 30, 2015
Oh that's great re scar treatment. And I honestly don't know how I feel...wondering if I'm wasting my money to be honest. Guess that means I'm nervous
October 30, 2015
Dr. Spies says NO cg. He uses just ace bandages. Anyone else have bandages instead of cg? I'm not having any lipo, and he says you only need the cg if you are having lipo.

If you are having doubts, are you sure you are ready? I'm convinced that my arms can't be worse, so it is worth it to me. So many people have been so happy with theirs and my PS keeps telling me how wonderful my arms will look. I can't help but be excited.
November 1, 2015
Yes, I'm definitely having doubts but don't think my arms could get any worse than they are today.

Deb, my arms are just like yours!
I hate mine so ( laugh) I guess that means I hate yours too?! Our stories are the same- a closet full of 3/4 and long sleeves... Seriously, my surgery is 11/6 and I'm nervous! Were you told you'll have drains that you have to empty and measure ? I assume that you're having the full lift and not the minimal ?
October 30, 2015
Judyjudy I am having the full lift, not the minimal. He said no tubes. Where are you located? Are you posting your story on this site? I want to follow yours. What are you nervous about?
User Avatar

Chicago
I guess two drainage tubes
That have to be emptied and fluids measured- going to be difficult living alone. Nervous as I had the minimum surg in 2012 with lipo for $10000 with Dr Bloch in Highland Park and they're worse now. He should have known that I needed the full lift.
I didn't post this surgery yet
as I'm not sure my surgeon would want the exposure...
but I would like to help other women through their surgeries!
I'm having implants removed and replaced as one implant
is " capsular contraction" and hard, hurts to lie on it.
Where are you?
October 31, 2015
I'm in the Phoenix area. My doctor is in Scottsdale.
