So Glad I Finally Had the Procedure

WORTH IT
Nine years ago I had a melanoma removed from my nose which left two large divots and an unsightly vertical scar. It bothered me significantly. I considered taking remedial measures, and both my dermatologist and spouse were encouraging. After the scars healed, I consulted a cosmetic surgery institute. The institute recommended that I consult with a plastic surgeon and provided me with a few surgeons' names. I procrastinated for a couple of years, and when I was ready to proceed, Dr. Linn was the second surgeon I consulted with. From the moment we met, Dr. Linn was supportive and informative. He was also encouraged that a significant amount of time had passed since the chemotherapy and punch biopsies were performed because this gave him a more flexible scar to work with. His professional manner and presentation of the procedure gave me confidence to proceed with corrective plastic surgery. His entire team was equally professional. One nurse even identified a stitch issue from a phone photo. All in all, my experience was positive and my scar was minimized significantly. To me, Dr. Linn is "The Best!"

That's great news, so pleased it worked out for you, and of course that you are now free of the melanoma. May I ask about the punch biopsy (I was considering having this done for a mole removal) do you know why it left two large divots-was it not sutured properly, or does punch biopsy leave this result usually? I don't want to be left with an indent after mole removal so I'd be very interested to know thanks.
I had the punch biopsy after topical chemotherapy. It was explained to me that, unfortunately, it was the only way to determine clear margins (I believe they have to go deep). There was never any discussion of sutures of the biopsy site. I will see if I can have before and after pictures posted so you can see the results of the punch biopsy.
Thank you for the explanation-yes they would have to take a lot of tissue to make sure they get it all. My mother has had cancer removed from her nose too (but not as serious a type as Melanoma) They didn't use a punch biopsy with her but she was also left with a vertical scar and a bump. If she was younger I think she'd have had it corrected too. So glad you had such a good experience with the scar removal after all you've been through. Yes I would love to see pics if you can put some up.
Before and after pictures would have been welcome.
Sorry not to h ave pictures posted yet. I will remind my Drs office as they have them. I may find some as well.
