I have been seeing an ENT for chronic sinus issues...

I have been seeing an ENT for chronic sinus issues for 10 years. It's always here's another antibiotic and steroid pack, enjoy! They did a CT/ MRI, can't remember which, to confirm there was an issue with the anatomy causing the problems. Side note: I also had a car accident in which I hit my face and had a small boxer type deformity. My nose had a small, wide bump. It didn't look like my nose to my. My biggest concern was function; I was battling daily (even more nightly) to simply breathe through my nose. I was a mouth breather. I was taking the max does of pseudephedrine 120mg everyday. I would get excited to have use of one nostril.
The ENT does these surgeries all the time. I chose to go with a plastic surgeon just because it is your FACE. They are reshaping bones and moving things around. I feel it's important to have someone that understands how improving the functionality could also affect your looks. I didn't want to come out breathing but looking like a different person or a monster! Enter, Dr. Wright!
My initial consult with Dr. Wright, he put me at ease and assuaged my fears of this much needed surgery I had been putting off for years. He went over every step of the procedure and the process. He made sense of beauty; spoke to me at length on the NOSE -and how it should play its role within the face. He was also instrumental in working with my insurance as this was not a purely cosmetic procedure.
The day of procedure, Dr. Wright was extremely sensitive to my anxiety. I was so nervous! He left the decision to proceed entirely up to me. Moving forward was the best decision!
For the first time in 5 years, I can breathe without sudefed. I had a septoplasty and turbinectomy. They reconstructed my septum and put it back in place. It was crooked and out of center. Also, I had a bone spur stabbing into the side of it which caused costant inflammation and pressure. The turbinates were inflamed and scarred from chronic swelling and infection. So, they actually did liposuction to those. He also fixed the bump on my nose and re shaped the tip. I came out of surgery being able to breathe!! Even with the bandages on. My nose did not need to be packed; which was one of the worst parts of nasal or sinus surgery, I had heard. I was grateful for that! The tape holding my bandages on extended up to my forehead and across my cheeks; sort of like an X.
I don't know that it is typical but Dr. Wright, called me personally to check on my recovery at home. My procedure was friday before Christmas. On the 5th day post-op, he had me come in on Christmas Eve morning to clean out my nostrils (trust me, you will be happy to have it). The nose creates a lot of mucus (boogers) in response to its injury. He removed the nasal stents that were holding the passages in place to ensure my breathing well. Then, he removed the bandages. I have to say, I was shocked. I hadn't seen my face at all in 5 days. Seeing it at all took some getting used to! My nose was perfectly straight. I had no bruising; a slight yellow on one cheek. I could tell the tip was more refined. All to do was wait and watch the swelling go down.
It was a long recovery (strength wise) but so much better than what I was living day to day. I was on the up and up; improving leaps and bounds each day. Prepare yourself by being as healthy as can be leading up to your surgery. It took more out of my energy than I expected. I was afraid of pain. I experienced next to NONE! Three months post-op and I feel like I have the nose I was born with again! No more sinus infections because I can breath and drain properly. One thing Dr. Wright prides himself on is not being able to tell his patient has had "plastic surgery".
I attribute everything to Dr. Wright and his expertise. He eased my concerns and I am so happy I went through with the procedure. I love my nose! Form and function!
