My philtrum is visibly smaller. Although the size of the lips didn't change much, the cupid bow is now better defined and more prominent - it gives me much more confidence in applying the lipstick.

I forgot to add - everything is healed, but still a little numb under my nostrils. And itches from time to time.

Loska, your last before and after shows significant softening of your lip area! Your upper lip is lovely. Sometimes, we are our own worst critics:)

It is a definite improvement, one that friends may not notice specifically. They may just say, "You look good." Has that been your experience?

Do you have to cover your scar with makeup? Is it pink or white or...?

With make up... lip liner extends a bit on the sides of the upper lip, I made the liner darker to show. After all, now I love this new lip - it is a small subtle difference, but so much more can be done with make up!

Day 26 - almost healed, still a bit numb

It is almost four weeks and I must say I am happy with the result. My upper lip is significantly higher, my cupid bow is more prominent, and with make up my lips look smoking. Way better than before.

A few pictures without make up - the redness propably from my touching too much, it is still healing and from time to time it is itching a lot.

My filtrum is now 13 mm (4mm shorter than before). But now I am glad doctor didn't lift more, because the lip corners would have more noticeable drop. And the idea is to improve how the the entire face looks. Initially I asked for the corner lift, however my doctor advised my not to do it because those corners frequently leave visible scars. Now, when I read all reviews, here and elsewher, and see how many things can go wrong with any cosmetic surgery, I feel very fortunate.

My doctor (with whom I will have a lip lift on Tuesday, 2 days from now, also will not do the corner lip lift for the exact same reason yours said. Thanks for continuing to post. The results look good. So you think you will stick with this? How do you feel about the scar?

So after taking out 8mm, your upper lip dropped down 4mm, making the lift 4mm? Good to know. I am 22mm and the doctor anticipated taking out 8mm. Looks like I will be left with a 18mm upper lip. Sigh. Sounds like I will have to do this 2x.

Love your lips! Mine itch like crazy

Does your doctor guarantee his work? Like say if you are not satisfied with amount of liplifting after? So many get this done twice, cost of entire facelift! Thanks for your responses.

I can tell you that Dr Baker, who did my lip lift, said that if I am unhappy, he will work with me to ameliorate anything that is unsatisfying. But we did not get into specifics about what that meant or if there would be additional money charged.

I didn't ask about guarantee, so we didnt't discuss it. As it is now, I am COMPLETELY satisfied with the work my doctor did. He did what he promised and it heals amazingly well. After one month the scar is practically invisible. Would I prefer more lift, more teeth showing? Yes, but my face would now look good, my mouth would propably stay open, and lip corners would look more droopy. We as patients need to accept that in this kind of surgery sometimes, kind of often actually, the results are not what we *wish* for and that doctors cannot predict exactly the final outcome. It is a different story when there is a botched surgery or complications, but with in my case with super clean incision, no pain, perfect healing, there is nothing that I can be seriously unsatisfied. Thank goodness I can distinguish between what I wish and what I can practically expect.

Yes, I think one reason plastic surgery patients get a bad reputation with doctors is that some folks are unrealistic about outcomes or don't know when to leave things alone. RealSelf member Rdinca cannot expect any doctor to guarantee an outcome. Patients have to do their homework as best we can to choose someone who will work hard to do the best job that his/her skill set allows...and then we hope for the best.

I concur with what both of you say and believe it or not usually defend a surgeon and not a perfectionist patient. I do know sometimes complications unforeseen can happen and I am always hoping a physician is of the integrity to help you resolve such and I didn't say totally, "free". I've actually been botched by a physician who wasn't a plastic surgeon but gynecologist oncologist and his mistake left me with severe bowel issues where he left me hanging. So, I do worry . I have reason being thru that unassisted by original surgeon. It pretty much has ruined my quality of life but that's something I will deal with ongoing and no, never sought legal action just would've been nice to not be botched and left like this to deal with alone. :(
