Facelift, Cheeklift, Neck & Upper & Lower Eyes

Finally had my surgery with Dr. Lowenstein out of Santa Barbara. Went through extensive testing, but it was worth it to ensure peace of mind for both of us. Dr. Lowenstein was very knowledgeable beyond his practice expertise and was of a conservative nature as am I. I felt very comfortable with Dr. Lowenstein right from the start, a no-nonsense doctor, but with a sense of humor, and someone who actually listens to the patient. It's been 2 weeks now, all stitches are out and there is still some bruising - which is normal. I feel very good and am ready to go back to work next week with some makeup applied. Still only sleeping about 4 hrs. at a time during the night. Try to stay up and moving most of the day so that I will sleep better at night. Still wear the chin/neck strap at night. The down side is I have some hair growth on my chin/neck (not from surgery) and can't shave with an electric razor just yet. Dr. said I can use a regular razor, but I'm not comfortable with that, as being numb I might cut myself, so I'll stick to "plucking" the hairs. I can't wait to see the progression as time goes by. I feel very fortunate to have found Dr. Lowenstein and would recommend him to my friends and family. His staff was also very friendly and helpful.

A not so great experience with Dr. Keller’s...

A not so great experience with Dr. Keller’s office. I explained in the consultation and on my questionnaire that I previously had a pulmonary embolism (PE) 9 years ago after a total hysterectomy. He did not say anything about this being a problem and I disclosed it up front twice.
I booked a fill in date, paid my money upfront, all but the anesthesia fee. One week before my scheduled surgery date, I received a call during the day at work from their nurse, or PA – whatever her title is (Dorothy) to remind me I needed to get my blood work done, I asked her if I should schedule it sooner than what I had, and she said yes. She also reminded me to take some of my medications a few days prior to surgery.
That night at home I received another call from this woman. The first thing out of her mouth is that she knew what she was about to tell me when she called me at work, but didn’t want to disclose it then. She said the anesthesiologist(s) had turned me down for surgery because of my prior PE. Now why in the world she would have had me go through the hoops of rescheduling my blood work for a sooner time and to remind me to take early medications when she already knew I would not be having surgery is beyond belief! There really was no good reason for her to call at all until after work to tell me the news. This was one week before surgery was scheduled. I would think the Dr. would have wanted to check with the anesthesiologist ahead of time if he had concerns. I feel that this Dr. wants to get people in and out, and if you have any complications he would rather not deal with it. To add insult to injury I have to wait 30 days to receive my refund. I had to prepay 21 days in advance.
I began to wonder if I would ever be able to have surgery again, so I e-mailed another plastic surgeon in the area, explained what had happened and asked if this would also preclude me from having surgery with his practice, that I needed to know upfront before having a consultation (didn’t want to waste my or their time). What a difference - the doctor called me right away, asked many pertinent questions regarding the PE and history since then. He stated that he would want extensive testing done to determine the possibility of it happening again but that once the testing was done he could tell me quickly if I would be a candidate for surgery. He is very conservative (as am I) and said if it was not in my best interest he would tell me that as well. He also stated in his practice that he makes the decision on whether or not to operate, not the anesthesiologist. Prior to speaking with this doctor I visited a website for Anesthesiologists to try and learn more about having surgery after a PE. What I learned was exactly what this doctor was recommending. He definitely cares about, and listens to his patients and is not just looking to get people in and out for the easy, quick money. He may not have as many years experience as Dr. Keller, but he’s conducting his practice in the true spirit of helping people by his concern and willingness to deal with more complicated issues.

I will be having the procedure with a different Dr. in November, I will update then.

Dr. Lowenstein is an utmost professional. He has a quiet, no-nonsense demeanor, but has a good sense of humor and listens to his patients. I felt instantly comfortable with Dr. Lowenstein. He and his staff were not trying to "up-sell" treatments. I felt his cost for procedures were very competitive and his staff helpful and friendly. He was very realistic in what to expect and upfront about what was expected of me. I would recommend this doctor in a heartbeat to friends and family that would like a natural refreshed look.
