Ten years after my parents paid for braces and the retainer I never wore as a teenager, it's now my adult privilege to pay for Invisalign!

My results from traditional braces were great and are still mostly intact, but I'm not sure the rotation of one lateral incisor was ever fully addressed (again, gave up on retainers after just a couple months so I don't know) and it always flared out a little. In recent years and as my wisdom teeth came in, it seemed as if that one stupid tooth was rotating noticeably and initiating a domino effect in my mouth. After speaking to my general dentist, I decided to address these minor issues now with a simple Invisalign treatment rather than having to undertake something more complex and costlier down the road.

So my case is minor; treatment will take 12 trays. Doc wasn't comfortable recommending me for Express because they didn't want to commit to the tray limit, but they were incredibly flexible and agreed to cap the cost assuming 15 trays, and they'll cover any additional cost for revisions, etc. My overall cost estimate includes x-rays/ digital impressions, treatment and retainers.

I got my first trays yesterday and there's not much to report; little bit of soreness when I put them back in after eating and I'm getting these annoying bubbles, but that's it. Boyfriend's almost disappointed that he can't tease me - they're barely noticeable and I don't have a lisp.

I go back in a couple of weeks to get the "buttons" and possibly Propel, which is my biggest question right now. They hadn't mentioned it until I went yesterday to collect the first trays, but I was told I'd change out the trays weekly and my treatment would last less than 4 months.

For personal and professional reasons it's a really attractive idea, but I can find barely anything about propel besides that it's an uncomfortable but tolerable procedure. I want more on the risks/ advisability of moving teeth that quickly. What are the impacts, good or bad, on treatment effectiveness? What are the risks? At what point do they seal up the holes they drill? How does propel effect your maintenance after you get through active treatment? I'd love to be finished in three months but if it means doubling the amount of time I need to spend wearing a post-Invisalign retainer in public/ during the day, I'd think twice for sure. Would appreciate any guidance!

Thanks for sharing your story. In additional to posting your question here, I suggest taking a look at the Forum and doctor Q&A areas of the community for opinions on Propel. Good luck with your treatment, please keep us updated on your journey!

I hadn't heard of Propel until reading your review, so I googled it! Sounds more invasive than I'm willing to try, but like I said, I know very little about it! Have you heard of, or considered, Acceledent as an alternative option to fast track your treatment? Good luck with your treatment!

I actually wasn't aware of Acceledent until I started reading posts here but I definitely will ask about it before I commit to anything. And I agree, the Propel option sounds invasive and uncomfortable so I definitely want to consult further before I literally get a hole in my head!

It's quite costly but it gets a lot of good praise from people here. I bought mine second hand from my friend who had Invisalign a few years ago, and got a new mouthpiece from my ortho. That could be an option for you if you don't want to spend so much, or if your treatment plan is short. It will make the whole process fly by! Good luck!
