>> Five stars are not enough, if I could give a million, I would. I currently reside in Las Vegas, Nevada. You would think it is easy to find a reputable board certified plastic surgeon to give you exactly what you want, think again. I had macroctia (large ears) and I was so embarrassed of them all my life I never ever tied up my hair in public. I would have anxiety when people asked to see my earrings that I ended up taking them off completely. I needed an ear reduction and I knew this procedure would involved making an incision on the outside of the ears that could potentially leave a very large noticeable scar. I was so desperate at that point, I did not care. I expected it. I contacted every ear surgeons in my local area, some never heard of it and only one perform this kind of procedure. He was all talk when we corresponded through emails so I scheduled a consultation with him. I asked if he could reduced my ears to a normal height, he said no. I asked if he could reduced my conchal bowl, he said there's nothing he can do about it. Every question I asked was a let down. He went on to say my ears fit my appearance and when he looked at me, my ears were not the first thing he would notice. Then he started making comments about monkeys, how they have large ears and that they can hear better in the jungle. Really? I am not a monkey and I do not live in the jungle. What he was basically telling me was he is not that good of a surgeon and that if there is no difference after surgery, I should expect it because he told me so. I saw right through him. No thank you!

>> I almost lost all hope. Then I found Dr. Hilinski in San Diego after I read many great reviews about his absolute dedications to his clients and the wonderful miracles he performed. I looked at his before and after photos and I was in complete awe with all the amazing results. His work really speaks for itself. I was browsing through RealSelf.com when someone asked about ear reductions and Dr. Hilinski responded that he perform this type of surgery. The feeling I had finding Dr. Hilinksi was like finding a pot of gold. I immediately scheduled a Skype consultation with Dr. Hilinski, he went through the procedure and how it would be performed and warned me about scarring. Every question I asked was answered directly. I was so nervous because of the many failed attempts with other surgeons, but at that moment I knew Dr. Hilinski was my doctor. Next thing I knew, I was driving over 300 miles to have my surgery. His staffs are amazingly wonderful and sweet. The office is very cozy and comfortable. I was a nervous wreck because I cannot believed I was finally having it done after years of suffering from anxiety. During the procedure, everyone at the operating room made sure I was completely relaxed and comfortable. We listened to music and we had conversations the whole entire time and that made me forget I was being operated on. I stayed in San Diego for five days because I needed to change the bandage and had post surgery follow ups. I had a pretty hard time recovering because this was not a simple procedure. Dr. Hilinski literally took out my entire ears, shrunk it, and placed it back to my head. But the pain was simply controlled with medication. You would think with the amount of work that was done on my ears you would see a huge scar, not even close. I could hardly tell anything was done let alone anyone else. What Dr. Hilinski did to my ears exceeded my expectations. He has the hands of God. I will never ever let any other surgeon touch me, Dr. Hilinski is the only doctor I have 110% trust in. I will never find a more down to earth, sweet, caring, and talented doctor. Thank you Dr. Hilinski for changing my life!

>> I have been going back to Dr. Hilinski for follow ups every three months now. I see it as a mini vacation where I can enjoy beautiful San Diego and sit in hotel rooms and indulge in delicious food while watching television. Do yourself a favor if you plan on having any type of procedure done, do a lot of homework and research. Do not go to a plastic surgeon because of convenience even if the price is right because the outcome will cost you more than you can imagine. Thank you for taking your time to read my experiences.

You welcome Sharon! I had my surgery in March and I already had three follow ups and another one in December. My doctor is a perfectionist, so whenever he needs me to be back, I am there!
Hey, I live in SD and im looking to pin my ears back. Im having a real hard time finding experienced Dr.'s around here.
It seems that they all have performed the surgery, but maybe for a passing grade, or as a rarity in their practice. I want to find a Dr. that specializes in this procedure.
Anyhoo. Could you please please post before and after pics? you can completely block out your face :) just need your ears and maybe the scars... Please?
Sofia
Do you have more information about the technique to take out the entire ear, reduce or shrunk it and place back to the head? Never read about this before and it could possible help me? Was the conchal bowl reduced too?
I apologize for the confusion. What I really meant was there was reduction on my scapha, conchal bowl, and earlobes. That is literally work done on my entire ear. If my ears was completely taken out of my head, it would have been dead ears.
Hi, I was wondering if you could add any before and after pictures of your procedure, or alternatively send them in a private message? I'm in EXACTLY the same position as you described and Im looking for a qualified doctor but it seems like most plastic surgeons only do ear pinning. My problem is that I have a large ears, they are not protruding at all. I would very much appreciate it as Im considering traveling to Dr Hilinski's office but live in Europe.
Hi Sabrine, I apologize for not responding sooner, I haven't log on for a while. My before and after photos are on his website under otoplasty gallery, I'm patient #44. I do not have protuding ears as well, I had my ears reduced in terms of height. Based on the photo you provided, it appears that you only needed your scapha reduced other than that your ears are in a beautiful shape. I wasn't so lucky, I needed my scapha, conchal bowl, and earlobes reduced. I had a really hard time recovering because there was a lot of work done but I am glad those days are gone and now I have an addiction on shopping for earrings.
Thank you so much for getting back to me, Christine. I really appreciate it - and I checked out the pictures you mentioned, your ears look so great! I have seen so many doctors on here commenting on how the size of the ears cannot be reduced, only their angle. Your pictures are proof that the shape and length can be changed as well and it has really given me some hope for my own ears. Also, thank you for suggesting improvements on my ears, all I knew was that I thought they were too big. Take care and continue to enjoy your earring shopping!
Thanks so much for sharing! You give me a lot of hope for my big long ears!!!
Thank you for your compliment! I know exactly what you meant when you say doctors only perform ear pinning and not reducing the size. Large ears and protruding ears are two different types of ears. Before I found Dr. Hilinski, I was really let down and a bit annoyed with some of the doctors I corresponded with, I mentioned my large ears that needed to be reduced in height and width and they will say, well if I pinned your ears back it will give you the illusion that it's smaller. Really doctors? That's not what I'm looking for, how about just saying you don't perform that type of surgery and stop trying to talk patients into getting unnecessary surgeries to fit your medical field. Never stop looking for answers, the right answers, and keep moving along. I wish you the best of luck!
You are so very welcome! I used to called my ears "wings" on my head. I believed they were almost 3 inches each, now they are less than 2.5 inches.
I just measured mine and they're also almost 3 inches each!
Badly need to get them reduced significantly!!!
God bless you Christine for your guidance! So, do you think Dr. Hilinski would be my best option and if you could PLEASE let me know the total cost of the procedure, that would be immensely appreciated!!! I need to plan financially for this life-changing surgery! Lol.
God bless you too Kesh for your positive outlook. You should check out his otoplasty gallery and decide for yourself. Dr. Hilinski is the best ear doctor in California. Just remember don't choose a doctor because of convenience or a low price because the outcome might cost you more than you bargain for. The type of surgery you might need, what I think you might need, you might not need twilight or general anesthetic, just local anesthetic. This will save you at least $1000 dollars. I can't say how much your particular surgery will cost but I'm sure it's way less than mine. You should contact Dr. Hilinski and do a Skype consultation with him if you are not in the States and he will go over the procedure with you. Best of luck!
Thanks x1000 Christine! I think I will go for Dr. Hilinski based on your feedback and the photos on his website, you having been in my boat. I'm hoping the cost is less than $10,000. I'm in Canada. Will definitely show you pictures of my new ears whenever I get 'em ! :)
The procedure is way way way less than $10,000. If mine were $5000 dollars, yours will probably be $3000-$4000 dollars. This is what I think, I don't know for sure. Also, since you're in Canada, see it as a mini vacation where you can come to the states and see beautiful San Diego. Almost everyone I met in San Diego are super nice, I had a huge bandage wrapped around my head the entire time and no one looked at me funny. They just wanted to make sure I was okay. I can't wait to see your new ears. If you have any questions or concern, feel free to contact me anytime. We're all here to help each other and please just know that you're not alone.
Dr. Hilinski got back to me and said the average cost for Otoplasty is around $3500. He seems to think I don't require Macrotia surgery but I'm trying to get clarification as I strongly believe I do. My ears are way too long. He said he will send me photos of what to expect when he has time. I must say it feels so nice to be able to talk to someone who understands me! Thanks loads Christine!
You can easily become a counsellor for people with ear related issues with your experience! Be sure I'll let u know once I receive photos of expected results Christine.

Thanks for sharing your story, Christine! How long will you need to travel to SD for follow ups?
