I'm 21 years old and this review is about trying accutane for the first time. Today was my first pill, I was excited to try it so i can finally be acne free. And to be back to normal without worrying about my look and self esteem. I'm nervous about my acne getting worse in the first weeks and the side affects. Through my high school or middle school life i would probably get barely any pimples/ blemishes/ zits. I did have little white heads in my cheek most of the time, few though. Now I been stock with the worse acne i ever had in my life, for 4 months already. It started with couple pimples then it seemed like every day i was getting more and more. And i think it kept getting worse because I kept trying new things, stress even my hormones of having a baby of couple months old. I'm not sure what made my face brake out as bad, out of the sudden. Well I just hope accutane works well with me and i wish the best for those that are in my situation. Don't let time pass by like i did, go to a dermetologist if you think nothing else is working. As time pass by your face will get more damage and you'll end up with bad scars that might not even heal all the way

I have exactly the same problem, more than 6 weeks I'm taking roaccutane but the are with cysts and noduls now.what to do please

If you just stared is maybe from the medicine kicking in, trying to adjust to your body. Also What the dermetologist told me is if your acne gets worse it means that it's getting all the bad stuff out. I used to have some horrible cysts and nodules too. But solodyn, a medicine also for acne, is what i stated with for a month, before accutane. Help me get rid of the those two type of acne. My face would hurt and itch, and solodyn took that away. I still have scars and get pimples like in my pictures. Just talk to your dermetologist. Hope it gets better

If you previously had fairly clear skin, then developed severe acne following childbirth, hormones are the exact cause of your condition. You may have to deal with the battle multiple times until you're done having children. I had perfect skin all through high school and my 20's and most of my 30's. I never had children, but I have dealt with PCOS (Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome) and developed severe cystic acne at age 38. I tried everything..... multiple dermatologists, different antibiotics, topicals, multiple birth control pills and nothing worked. I couldn't start Accutane until my liver enzymes were perfect (still don't know why they were abnormal for a few years since I don't drink or use drugs.) Once I finished 6 months of Accutane, I cleared up and have stayed clear. Acne can come back after Accutane in some people, especially younger ones. I hope you have a excellent dermatologist AND Ob/Gyn to stay on top of it. The scarring is heartbreaking. I'm still working on getting rid of mine. I wish you the best of luck!

Thank you for the advice it help me a lot. My face has already some horrible scars. Scars that look like holes, so i think those deep scars will never go away:'( i think the reason for those deep scars its bcuz i waited to long to go see a dermatologist. just hope that after accutane i don't develop acne again at least not severe like i have it right now:/. But im going to try to stay on top of it. Thanks again.

YW. Once you are able to start treating scars, make sure you really do research for the types of scars you have. There are 3 main types: rolling, ice-pick and boxcar. If you have a combination, you'll need to do a combination of procedures to diminish them. From my personal experience, microdermabrasion and Fraxel lasers were a complete waste of time and money. The best procedures are: excision, subcision, TCA Cross, microneedling and ABLATIVE (C02) lasers. Oh, and once the dermatologist indicates it's the right time to do so, Retin-A. Make sure you tell your OB/Gyn about the acne problem developing after childbirth. He/she can then decide to test hormone levels and possibly find the right birth-control pill (often used to control acne too.) Again, good luck!

How is it working for now? I just started the treatment on Jan 8. Not much has changed. I'm trying so desperately to be positive but like you said, it kills your self esteem. Im hoping for some improvements soon enough. Please let me know if anything has changed for you. I've never had acne in my life. I'm now 36 and here comes a full fledge acne breakout on my both cheeks.

I barely have two weeks of being on the treatment. So far some spots/ blemishes have faded away. But im still getting new pimples/zits, like two each week. And yes it takes a lot from your self esteem. Sometimes i couldn't go out in public, i felt like they were just starring at my face. Now I feel a Lil Better about my apperence. I guess some ppl never get acne in their life some have them their whole life and others it takes a long time to finally brake out! :/

can hives be a side effect?

EveRod
Hello I have a question. Has anyone that's been on Accutane have had hives. In all my life i have never had hives till today. I didn't eat anything unusual that might of been an allergic, so I'm not sure where the hives came from. Help, thanks

If you are talking about those round shaped itches all over your body yes that is a side effect. My friend got that when her dosage was upped from 40 mg to 60 a day. So her body couldn't handle the upped dosage. She visited her GP and got some medication for it. She had to stop accutane for a few days until her condition improved. Then she continued on 40 mg again and didn't get more hives. It's best to tell your dermatologist bout this. I hope this helped.

my first month

EveRod
Hello again this review is about my first month of accutane, the results and side affects. This time i took the pictures by my window so the natural light from outside can help you all have a better look at my skin. The photos are only about my cheeks/chin because is the only places where i have acne. My forehead/nose not really i do get a bump rarely on my forehead though. I started seeing result by the second week, some of the spots/scars had faded away, I get less pimples/ bumps. By the 3rd week I started having chapped lips, dry skin on my face, and I even got hives for the first time. So i have to have chapstick everywhere I go, I bought a coconut lotion that is for my face and body.  If anyone has tried other products for  dry skin I'll be glad to hear about it. Also this month I have to take two pills per day, one in the morning and the other at night.  Till next month I'll post another review. Thanks i wish you all the best

Blue cross blue shield

Also the reason why the medicine cost me so cheap is because I get it mailed by this pharmacy called Rita care pharmacy. They have free shipping :)

Thanks !

What is the dosage of the accutane you are taking? Twice a day sounds like too much?
February 24, 2015
Same dosage from the first month. I thought so too since I even lost weight during first month. Idk why he made me go up on my dosage. But so far my face is doing good, my lips are cracked/dry. And i get one small blemish once a week
