If there were more stars available, I would use them. I had rhinoplasty 8 days ago and had nothing but a perfect experience, from consultation, through surgery and to this point. Plastic surgery is a huge life event for most individuals and there could be a logical concern that the plastic surgeon and his/her staff will not see the surgery in the same light but rather as just a routine work day. That simply was never the case at Dr. Nayak's office. He and his staff listened patiently to my questions and throughout my entire experience frequently asked me if I had any other questions or concerns. Their dedication to clear, continual communication is remarkable. During the initial consultation, Dr. Nayak was honest and very clear about what he could and could not do in my rhinoplasty; I greatly appreciated his forthrightness and it helped me to move quickly to a more realistic expectation regarding my upcoming surgery. I greatly encourage you to watch his FYI video regarding his approach to pain management. He explains it very clearly and in a logical "that-makes-sense" manner. I have had three c-sections and a breast augmentation with lift previous to the rhinoplasty and I would do the rhinoplasty again at the drop of a hat compared to the pain/discomfort of my previous surgeries. By surgery day I had come to believe "This is going to be manageable, the pain will be less than I would have expected before all he has taught me". And I was correct. Soreness, numbness, stuffiness, swelling, tenderness, bruising, stiffness? Yes, just as they told me beforehand. Bleeding? Very, very little. Pain? No, not even close. Regarding this issue I must pass on another high-5 to Dr. Nayak and his surgical team: as part of my pre-surgical medications, I was given both Tylenol and a prescription of Dilaudid (hydromorphone), in case the Tylenol was not strong enough for any pain I felt. Right before surgery the anesthesiologist came in and talked to me privately. I had been honest on my initial consultation paperwork and said I was a sober (10 years tomorrow!) alcoholic. She noted this and gently asked if the Dilaudid would trigger me. Now, bear in mind that having been sober 10 years, I have reported this information on other medical forms, but never had a medical professional asked about it, nor asked if I was going to be OK with my prescriptions. I though quickly and answered honestly: "I will not be triggered to drink, but I promise you, whether I need those pills for pain or not, I will take them. Every one of them. I will enjoy the pink clouds." Fast forward to me at home after my surgery. I get out the bottles of medications I am to begin and.......the Dilaudid is now gone! Well, darn, I was looking forward to that! But no sooner did I think that then I thought, "Wow, she listened to me!" I honestly felt cared for, taken care of, RESPECTED. As a professional myself who works with clients/patients, I could not help but be blown away by her patient advocacy, which professionals MUST practice, despite a patient's agreement or disagreement with. And here is the cherry on top: I never needed those pills, the Tylenol and other prescribed measures (icing, head elevation, saline spray, cleaning, etc.) were enough. Had I been given the Dilaudid they would all be long gone by now, despite Dr. Nayak and his team's incredible pain prevention techniques. As for my nose? The splint came off two days ago and I was hesitant to look at first but when I did, I cried. I looked through the swelling and knew immediately "This is going to be beautiful. How did he take that previous mess and make this beautiful thing???" Previously my nose was very crooked, had a lot of bridge knuckling and a small dorsal hump. My nostrils were extremely asymmetrical. Finally, it had much more "protrusion" (as Dr. Nayak very politely called it) than I have ever been comfortable with. Put bluntly, my nose was big, crooked and bumpy. I have a rather square shaped face and with that nose I always felt very manly looking. I look at my new nose and know I am going to now look much more feminine and pretty; it is symmetrical, smooth and graceful looking. All the parts "flow" together beautifully. Even in its swollen state I would take this nose over my previous one! Knowing it is only going to get better truly blows me away, I simply can't imagine feeling pretty, I quite literally never have, all due to my nose. I now drive my convertible with the top down without turning my head away at stop lights so drivers to my side won't see my profile, or wearing a baseball cap pulled down low with sun glasses on to try to hide my face. Thank you, Dr. Nayak and all the office staff and surgical team, I am beyond grateful for your extra time and dedication to my surgery. If I have helped to make another potential patient feel more comfortable with their decision regarding surgery, I am pleased to have done so. You are truly an artist and I am proud to wear your work on my face!
