WORTH IT
Hi,
I am 60 years old, just. Eight years ago, in a hasty decision, I had 280 cc breast implants. I was a 34 B and went to a 34 FF; bigger than I had anticipated. Since the implants, I have have had constant pain and discomfort in my left breast. My breasts felt heavy and uncomfortable and I have not been able to not wear a bra or go to bed without support since the procedure. I do a lot of yoga and pilates and they got in the way.

As others have said, it is also difficult to get clothes to fit due to having large breasts, relative to the rest of my figure. In hindsight, I should have had them removed straight away.
I have not liked to have them touched, which is a shame as they have looked good. Before, I used to walk around the house without a bra on, but for the last 8 years that has not happened.
Anyway, after reading all the stories on RS I decided to have them removed. I have been to see 3 different Plastic Surgeons, the 1st in Surrey (who was unconvincing), the 2nd in Harley St and the third in Tunbridge Wells. After seeing the last one I felt comfortable with his approach. He proposed a two stage plan, with initial removal of implants and capsulectomy, but possibly leaving in the right capsule if it proved to be particularly thin, and then to leave everything for approximately 3 months to see how my breasts look, allowing them to settle, before deciding if a lift is necessary.

As you might imagine, I was feeling nervous and apprehensive about both the operation and how my breasts would look afterwards, but after careful consideration and research I felt that the implants needed to come out.

My choice of Surgen in the end was Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgen, Marc Pacifico. I had two consultations with him before my op. Marc is charming, listens well and truly understood what I wanted.

My implants were removed on the 14th of June 2017. The left breast, which had always been very painful, had a double capsule around the implant which Marc removed. He managed to remove 1/2 of the right capsule as the rest was attached firmly to the muscle at the back and he felt it best to leave that part in situ.

I had my operation at the Nuffield Tunbridge Wells Hospital. The Staff at the Nuffield hospital were excellent and my room and en suite were spotlessly clean.

Marc likes you at the hospital early so that he can mark patients up and plan what he will be doing in theatre for the day, then one waits until it is time for one’s op. I had a lovely time doing paper work and watching TV, reading etc, before I had my op at about 1.30pm!
Marc came to see me after my op and again the next morning.
Because I had drains in place I stayed in hospital overnight. The night staff were excellent and fed me biscuits and cups of tea as I had not managed to eat my dinner, which was a shame as it looked really tasty and beautifully presented.

I have had no pain and so far things look better than I had dared to imagine.
It is amazing to feel free again, and back to being all me, so to speak.
I have had to wear TED stockings for 2 weeks which I changed daily, one pair in the wash one pair on.
I have also been wearing a binder around my chest. Again one in the wash and one on. I have found it best sleeping slightly up right on plenty of pillows.

I went back to the hospital after a week to check everything was ok, which it was, so I was in and out in 10 minutes.

Tomorrow I go back to Marc’s clinic to see the nurse and have my dressings removed cleaned and re done, I think.

I will post a photo of my breasts before and after implants, then after the operation. I hope this will help someone who is thinking of doing the same.
Bye for now.

You look awesome! So much better. I had implants and lift 11 years ago when I was 51. I ended up a 32DD with 225cc implants. I've always hated them. Way bigger than I wanted to be. I was a saggy B cup and only wanted to be a C cup. I want them out. Had 3 consults and deciding between going to Cleveland to Dr Feng or using a Surgeon here in S Florida that I liked. He wants to remove and do a lift. Want to see your recovery but you're looking great now!~

Hi Seegeeme, I went today to have the dressings changed and my surgeon said this is as good as it gets after just 2 weeks. He is very pleased, and so am I with the result so far. I am so pleased that I did not go straight for a lift at the same time as implant removal. Marc had recommended to proceed in 2 stages; he said let's see what you look like after the explant, then decide what the options are later when your breasts have settled. I am really surprised and happy that they seem to look so much better than I had hoped. Sounds like you are a small build so I would suggest that you consider having them out and see what's what and make the lift decision after. The first Surgeon I went to was happy to take the implants out and do a lift at the same time. The second was happy just to take the implants out and not the capsule, even though the capsule was hard and had actually formed a double capsule which needed to come out on the left side. Marc's advice was by far the best. I will post more photo's tomorrow.

thanks.... I may have to go back and do another consult with the Dr that I've chosen to discuss explant only. Stupid me didn't ask him at the consult a few days ago. He said explant and lift and I didn't question it.....

Dear Nancy, Good luck and look after yourself. About 7 days before my op I stopped drinking alcohol eat plenty of fruit and veg and drink plenty of water. I wanted to he as healthy as I could be.
July 3, 2017
that sounds exactly like what I am doing. I am really trying to eat clean so that I heal the fastest possible.

Hi, Tired of hurting, It will be 3 weeks on wed since my implants came out. I have not done any cleaning or ironing since. I have felt really well and cannot wait to get back to normal activities. I teach Pilates and cannot wait to move my body again. My PS has told me I MUST be careful for 6 weeks. It is important to not overdo it and end up with a problem. I drove my car about 7 days after, as you need to be able to do an emergency stop for insurance reasons. I Have had friends round and caught up on all my paper work. 6 weeks is not too long it just seems it when you are feeling well and what to get back to normal whatever that is. But be careful and give your self time to heal. Only 7 days left for you now!

Thanks for your kind reply. I may have to take 6 weeks off. I think my Clients can go somewhere in the interim. But its a scary thought. ! 1 week from today. I am scared and nervous too.
How long for compression bra. I think its 6 weeks am I right?
I hope for your continued healing. You sound like you are in great shape

Thank you for sharing. You look great. I bet you won't need a lift after all!! I am explanting silicone implants soon. I'm scared of capsulectomy. Hope I have good experience like yours.

Hi thanks for your mail. My left breast has always been painful and the capsule (s) needed to come out. If you do not need the capsules out I would leave them in as my right breast looks much better than the left. Mind you the left is coming on nicely. I will post some more photos at the end of the week so you can see. How old are you? and when are you having yours out? I am so much happier with out my implants. Hope you will be, be patient and get on a good diet, eat plenty of fruit and veg and drink plenty of water. I came of alcohol for 2 weeks before and still not drinking nearly 3 week after. Good luck.

I am 57 and have had my silicone under muscle implants for 29 years! As of past few months my left breast has been killing me and I am very fatigued and suffer headaches often now. I really don't want capsulectomy at all. But my PS feels it is needed along with drains for a week. I asked if I might have conture deformaties bc of it...he said no. I sure hope he is right! Apparently he does many explants nowadays. And he is a Harvard trained PS. So...im praying I won't be deformed afterwards. Again thank you thank you thank you for your story, pics, and wonderful advice. BTW...my surgery will be July 19th. I will post pics. I'm soooo scared.
July 4, 2017
Good luck on the 19th, sounds like you PS knows what he is doing. Hopefully you will not need a life after. Take care.

I commend your courage! I am looking at doing fat transfer because I just know as much as I may want the look of implants, I don't want them in my body. I'm not sure if you really have much fat to take, but it may be an option for you too.
July 3, 2017
Morning Amber E, Unfortunately I do not have any fat, so a Fat transfer was not an option for me. I did not want anything put in my breasts I just wanted the implants out, and poss lift. I am waiting to see how I looked before making any further decisions on what I might do next, which was the advice of my PS. So far I am happy with the way they are settling down. After years of pain in my left breast, I am pleased to say that has gone.
