I have had Chronic migraines for over 10 years and tried everything. Has taken 2 years to get doctor to refer me to Neurologist and he recommended Botox. I hope it will help with the headaches but most of all the severe neck pain I have all the time. Did this help on anyone else? Is it odd having Botox in these muscles?

The Botox injections involve all the muscles so will also take care of the neck too. My neurologist had me in physical therapy for my neck prior to the authorization going through and told me to discontinue since I have the injections.

Thank you, it seems odd that they can put Botox in neck and shoulder muscles and not restrict movement. I went through physical therapy and Accupuncture as well prior to Botox scheduling.

I have had chronic static migraines for almost 20 years. Part if the cause of them is severe muscle spasms in my right shoulder and neck. I have been getting Botox for migraines for the last three years. It has made a world of difference for me. It is the only thing that has worked.
One of the areas the dr will inject is your neck. There are usually

Sorry- cat stepped on the iPad- there are usually 31 injection sites. I find the injections in my neck and shoulders help- a lot. I think there is actually a use of Botox for treating certain types of muscle spasms (including Cervical Dystonia). So no, Botox injections in the neck is not odd at all and I do find that it helps.

I just had the injections for migraines (following 2 whiplash car accidents and after trying everything else... PT, dry needling, acupuncture, massage, drugs, etc)... My neurologist did them in 3 spots across the forehead, 2 in the temple areas, 2 occipital spots, 2 below those on neck and 1 behind shoulder blade. Initially I felt less headachey... that lasted 2 days. Now it's been 4 days and I have major neck stiffness and headaches are back. My upper back/shoulder muscles are super stiff and fatigued, makes leaning over very painful. I know the dr said to give it 3 weeks before deciding if it works, but this neck/shoulder/head stiffness/pain is like I was hit by a truck.. As of 4 days post injections, I do not recommend them.

I've heard of these side effects before. I'm so sorry you are suffering. I pray it was short lived. Please let us know how you are doing now. Your post was the end of September. Any lessening of the headaches after the initial side effects (hopefully) subsided?
You mentioned that you had had whiplash injuries. They are awful, aren't they!? I, too, suffer from the migraines (31 years) due to whiplash. On the pain scale of 1 to 10 mine were daily in the 8 and 9's range and even with the protocol of migraine and pain meds which didn't agree with me. Nothing's helped until I had treatments with an Upper Cervical Chiropractor Specialist and my pain levels at the highest and much less often lowered to a much more livable 5's and peaks higher during extremely stressful times or when I do something physically to irritate the neck. I actually have pain free days, too, which feels like I'm flying!!! (no, not on meds, it just means that the top two vertebrae that were very much "askew" due to my accident, causing spasms, sharp pain, nerve pain down the arms, other health problems, too.... are CURED!!!! and happen to be settled in on those days.) This progress after so many years for me would be called a miracle !!!!!
His practice is NOT even CLOSE to typical chiropractic care!!! I had had care from the best of chiropractors, osteopaths, physical therapists, and never had anyone addressed the situation with the knowledge that this guy did. He even did specialized x-rays, and I had had x-rays through the years and MRI's that didn't pick up the root of my problem like this guy's x-rays did. It had to do with my positioning so he could see what he needed to see in order to gather the information that he was to specially trained to find and treat. I only had the one X-ray at the beginning and then every visit, he scanned my neck with a hand scanner while I was sitting in a chair that was not invasive, not giving me radiation or "anything bad", but enabled him to see on his computer screen by picking up a simple energy reading and how straight my neck "bones" were and where the main problem was that day. Wow, it was life changing. If the pain starts in your neck and then progresses to migraines, I would advise Upper Cervical Spine Chiropractic Care and then Botox if still needed. (Of course that would only be if your side effects were short lived) I pray you find your path for recovery. May you and yours have a blessed holiday season.

Before trying Botox, I just wanted to recommend having an upper cervical spine specialist examine you. They are a high level form of chiropractor but my experience was really not like a chiropractor at all as I had been for 31 years going to the best of chiropractors and osteopaths for my neck (which was the source of my migraines; car accident, whiplash) This dear man, gentle, and thorough, and specialized x-rays (only one in the beginning and then later, maybe 6 months to a year later) that picked up the root of my problem that x-rays and many MRI's DID NOT pick up... Every visit, he scanned my neck with a hand scanner while I was sitting in a chair, that was not invasive, not giving me radiation or "anything bad", but enabled him to see on his computer screen the energy and how straight my neck "bones" were and where the main problem was that day. Wow, it was life changing. If the pain starts in your neck, I would advise Upper Cervical Spine Chiropractic Care and then Botox if still needed. If our necks have subluxations (misalignments) it can effect our entire health. I can attest to that! God bless you in your journey to finding the right path for healing. Ask and you will receive.
This is a few years old but the info is still relevant and I thought you might find it helpful:
