Really straightening out now
There has been so much progress since the final two teeth were engaged. I am so happy with how things are looking. I’m getting tons of comments from people I see everyday about how straight my teeth are looking.
Today, the only change made was to add wire ties to the lower lateral incisors to close the lower gaps.
I am getting married in two months and the original plan was to leave the wires off completely for the wedding. (Taking the brackets off would be an additional $900 and definitely not in the budget). Since I am going out of town for my wedding this means I would have the wires off for 3 weeks and I became concerned about losing progress in that time. I talked to my orthodontist today and she said that they actually have white-coated wires they can use instead, but sometimes the white chips off a bit. Fine by me! I think it’s a great solution to my problem. :)
I forgot to mention in my 5 month update that my original orthodontist left the office and I was pretty bummed about it. Also, at the 5ish month adjustment they did a little bit of IPR (interproximal reduction) where they basically grind the side of the tooth down so it sits next to its neighboring tooth better. They did this on my upper middle incisors and canines because the triangular shape of my teeth caused gaps at the gum line that made it look like my gums were receding more than they are. I thought it would hurt a lot but it was actually fine. :)

Update catch-up—7ish months in
This was the day there was finally enough room to lose the springs on my upper teeth! I was so excited about it. Also, I was instructed to stop turning my palate expander. The orthodontist engaged my two lateral incisors on this day (not pictured).
Update catchup—5ish months in
These are actually photos from June. I’ve been really bad about updating but I was so pleased with my progress at this point which is why I did the side by side comparisons :)
