I’m turning 42 at the end of this month. I’m a mother of 2 teens and struggle with stress and depression as most middle aged women do. I have a high level job with much stress, I’m the family breadwinner, and I’ve allowed life to get in the way of me. I’ve had enough. My whole life has been a struggle with weight and you name a diet, I’ve succeeded in losing weight, only to put it back on. Hell, I’m even a WW Lifetime member. I had set a goal of getting back in shape when I turned 40, but 40 came and went. I’ve allowed negative self image and negative internal dialogue to sabotage any progress I make, slipping back in to bad habits. Well, after doing all of the possible diets available through my life, I’m ready to work on behavior changes. I do not view this as a magic pill that I will wake up from and be thin. It’s going to take commitment, planning, and effort. I’m lucky in that I do not suffer from hypertension, diabetes, etc, (yet) but I am having back pain and other “nether region” issues that are most likely due to weight. I’m doing this to be proactive. I’m doing this to spend the next 40 years living, not dieting. I’m doing this to be there for my family. I’m doing this for me.

Good luck to you! The struggle is real. I been seriously considering this procedure. I refuse to get Gastric bypass, I’ve seen too many people gain back the weight because they don’t change their behavior. I just started taking Contrave and it has helped me immensely! I only think about food when I’m actually hungry! I don’t have the desire to snack constantly. It made me aware of just how much I really was eating! I consider myself a Fatorexoric. I’m still thin in my mind until I see a picture! Then I’m like “OHMYGODWHOTHEHELLISTHAT????!!!!!” I’m going to turn 50 in June, so I went and had my 3 year, annual physical. My blood work is good, blood pressure is good, my job is going well, etc... I asked my doctor, “then why am I so fu$&ing fat?” Without missing a beat he replied, “cuz you’re eating too fu$&ing much!” Ha! Thus, the script for Contrave. I’ve been on it about 2-3 weeks and I’ve dropped 8 pounds! I’m focusing on eating well and now I need to add that damn exercise, too! If I fail at this, then I will reconsider Obera. I’d kind of like it to be on the market a bit longer to see if a new, improved “ mousetrap” is designed. I hope all goes well. Have you already scheduled it? Keep us posted.

I’m so ready to get this started! Thought I’d post some before photos. I’ve been reading a cognitive behavioral therapy book for weight loss and keeping it off. Although my main goal is to lose weight, my ultimate goal is to keep it off, for good! Let the clear liquids begin!!

Hi! I have my balloon consult here in Little Rock with Dr Jones in a week! How has your experience with them been so far? I am hoping to get it in a couple of weeks! Thanks!

May I ask what the CBT book is titled. I'm with you and completely understand everything you posted. My situation is similar to yours. I go gung-ho with a lifestyle change for a good few weeks, then something in my brain triggers me to give up. It never fails! I want to conquer my battle with and dependence on food, once and for all. I just can't get past this everlasting hurdle. I am most definitely an emotional eater. Have never received any good therapy about my relationship with food. I hope this works well for you and your with it. Best wishes!

my husband and I had the balloon over a year ago. I would never recommend this for anyone. first it didn’t work for me at all!!! I told my Dr that I could down a bottle of water with no effects. typical you are only suppose to be able to sip or drink small portions or you would get cramps and pains. I never felt full so questioned could the balloon have deflated, leaked or what. I was told this wasn’t possible, well it is!!!! I was told at after my balloon was taken out that it didn’t fit my stomach correctly and that’s why I could eat and drink without the full feeling. My husband on the other hand lost 28 lbs but about died when they removed the balloon. he had so much undigested food that couldn’t pass the balloon, now we know why his burps smelt so bad. After the surgery one of the drs came to talk to me and told me that it didn’t act as fast as he did they would have lost my husband. Food that he had ate 3 wks prior was still in is stomach and he was committing while sedated and the dr had to quickly shove a tube down his throat to keep him from aspirating into his lungs. needless to say he could hardly talk for weeks after this but thank God he is still here. when you have a dr who won’t listen to you it could cost you your life. we discussed all the problems we both had and we were told constantly small portions good diet. it didn’t matter that I told him I wasn’t experiencing the effects of being full. my appetite never changed and I never lost 1 lbs. it didn’t matter that we talked about the fouls odors from husbands burps. All he wanted was the $5500 it cost us each, no insurance covers this procedure. I watched people who had just had their balloon taken out when we started and by the end of the 6mos they had gained it all back. I’m just sharing my experience and would wish this on anyone.

1 month and 10 pounds

So, went for my 1 month follow up today and I’m down 10 lbs from day of placement but if I track from weight prior to a two day liquid fast I have lost 15 lbs! In the end, this is all a mental process as tackling food addiction is going to be lifelong, like giving up alcohol. I’m still hungry, but fill up after half a plate vs whole serving plates. Keeping calories around 900-1200/day and trying to exercise at least 15-20 minutes daily. I have also really focused on a Keto style diet, and avoid nutrient poor carbs. My Fitness Pal app has been a great help and I can track daily net carbs, trying to keep below 30 gm. I have ~30 lb to go until goal weight and I still feel motivated and pumped seeing my body change. I told myself before and I continue to tell myself, this is just a tool. It won’t do the work for me but it can help remind me. At 1-2 lbs per week for next 5 months, I think I got this!

Good luck! Mental focus is what it will take. Once the balloon comes out so will ur appetite, and etc. I have learned healthy eating, and a full lifestyle chance is the truest way! But hunni, the confidence boost after losing those pounds will keep u pushing forward. You got this!

So proud and happy for you! I do think it’s key to remember it’s just a tool and not forget about the “ work” that has be done. I’m a nurse and I’ve seen far too many women go thru the hell of gastric bypass, lose weight rapidly, and then gain it all back in 3-4 years time. Several have said they wished they had just lost it “ the old fashioned way,” in retrospect. This procedure sparked my interest because it’s not permanent and you can change your mind should it make you miserable. I’m interested to hear about your progress. Sending good thoughts your way!
