I just had my consultation with my board-certified plastic surgeon, and it went very well. I have to wait a little over 3 weeks for the surgery, but I have waited a long time to have this done, so that is ok. We are trying to contact my old Surgeon in California to determine what size my McGhann's were. I no longer have the documentation on them. Really looking forward to getting this taken care of!

HOPE EVERYTHING GOES WELL, I've had mine 17 years, 3 years ago RT. one collApsed-- unfortunately I'm on disability and am unable to come up with the funds to cover a surgery. I can't even write this without tearing up. I've thought of a ,"go fund me" page but feel that should be reserved for someone with breast cancer etc. also I am 55 but still desire to feel normal, believe me it's taken a toll on me, very difficult to dress and look even, I haven't been able to wear a swimsuit, or enjoy a pool/water since this happened and I always have to wear 2shirts, the undershirt (tank top) has to be altered and drawn up very high, always rubbing my underarms, because remaining left breast is so high. I am happy for you and please keep me posted, I apologize for being a whine bag--- sometimes I need to vent. I often wish I could win the lottery, but they say, "u can't win if u don't play" So I suppose I won't have much luck, cuz it takes all I have to make ends meet---I AM HAPPY FOR YOU EVEN THO U ARE A STRANGER IN THIS SMALL WORLD OF OURS. !!!

Jennifer, I am so sorry for what you are going through. I can relate; although neither of mine have collapsed, they are encapsulated, and both have ruptured. They cause me a lot of pain, and make it difficult for me to sleep at night. They jab my arms if I try to sleep on my side. I just got on disability (for several unrelated conditions) and got some back pay - that is the only reason I can afford the surgery. I hope you are able to somehow come up with the funds to get your surgery taken care of - have you looked at financing? Best of luck to you. Hugs!

Hi SereneLiz, thanks for posting!

Are you planning on going with silicone again? What size are you considering?

Good luck and keep us posted on how you're doing!

Hi Chris, I just had my consult Wednesday, and the PS recommends silicone gel again, so that is what I am going with. We are waiting to see if my original PS still has my records that show what size my 25 yr old implants are. I have an app't Aug. 4th with the PS, and he said to bring a bra in the size I want to be, which is pretty much the same as now. He said I can't go any smaller, since he will be doing an incision under each breast to take out the entire encapsulated implants, since they have ruptured, and are so hard. I am currently a 38D. So I guess we will be determining the implant size at that appointment. I don't mind being the same size. I actually would like fuller breast with a little cleavage. I have been looking here on Real Self, and am coming up with a few "wish list" photos to take with me. One problem I have though, is something about my rib cage makes it difficult to have cleavage, if that makes much sense.

I paid all my payments to the PS, the anesthesiologist, and the hospital, ahead of time, even (!), so I am all set. I go get my blood work done 8/4 after my pre-surgery app't with the PS, so after that, it is just waiting for the surgery on 8/14. I will be having the drainage tubes on each side, so if anyone can share their experience with those, I would appreciate it. Thanks so much, and I am so glad I find this site. Real Self is great!

Just Found Out There Are No Records on my Almost 26 Yr Old Implants....

SereneLiz
I am so impatient for my surgery date to be here, but there are still decisions to be made before then. Such as which implant and size to go with, lol! Turns out, my original PS no longer has my records - almost 26 yrs ago, so I am not surprised. I was totally flat-chested before the surgery that made me a "D" cup. I have a pre-op appointment with the PS Aug 4th (surgery is Aug 14), and I am supposed to bring a bra the size I want to be with me. Also, the PS said something about putting the implant in water during the surgery to see how much water it displaces after he takes one out of me during the surgery to determine its size. I think I want the same size, the PS said I can't go smaller (which my husband wanted), which I am glad. As a typical woman, I could actually see going a little larger, like a nice "DD" cup. Sometimes I could wear C cups with my current implants, and that did not seem all that special.

After seeing several posts about the explant portion often being covered by insurance in cases of rupture and severe capsular contracture with pain and discomfort, I called my insurance. It may just be possible! My PS office is going to call the insurance for more info.

I bought several pajama sets that have button-front tops, and two front closure bras, although they will be for later. My PS said I will be wearing an ACE BANDAGE type thing (and DRAINS) at first. Ugh! But whatever is best for good healing and keeping my soon-to-be-new girls in place.

I have been doing a lot of reading here on RealSelf, and have especially been reading up on all the revision stories I can. I have been jotting down a lot of helpful tips, and really appreciate learning from all of you! I am posting my before pix, and will start posting wish-pix's soon! Thanks again!

Thanks< Kfysfmsmf (hope I got that right). I see you are back at work already! Your breasts look great now; I hope mine turn out close to that good! We are very close in age; I sure hope I get similar results. I am anxious for my pre-op appointment next week, where the PS and I will hopefully makes some at least tentative decisions on what silicone implant and size I will be getting. I am sure you will continue to feel better each and every day!

I have you beat by 10 years. Both of my 35 year old implants are ruptured and silicone is leaking - who knows how long they have been leaking. I went to 3 PS and only 1 would put part of the operation thru insurance (1 I would not use) , so I have to tote the whole bill. The PS I chose, who is supposed to be a teacher to other PS on this, has allotted 3 hours to do the operation considering the amount of silicone he must try to get out. I have pre-op on Aug 10 and surgery is scheduled for Aug 20. He said that I would have drains - yuck! From what I understand, the cleaning out of old stuff will cause more pain than the BA. I am not looking forward to it, but, it needs to be done. Hope yours goes well.

Hi Josette93. Sorry to hear your implants are causing you so much trouble. I have not heard back from the PS office about the insurance yet. I kinda doubt my insurance will cover my explant, but I thought it was worth a try. My surgery is only scheduled for 2 hrs (Aug 14), just 6 days before yours. I am so anxious to have it done. I am in the same boat as you as far as having to have those drains, ARGH! I really have no concept of how much pain I will be in, but I am imagining it will be probably the most pain I have ever had. Seeing as I have never gone through childbirth or had any other major surgery other than the first BA, which didn't seem all that bad. The implants then were put in through the nipple. I sure hope your surgery goes well too. We can commiserate together over those drains! :)

26 years! That is a long time. I didn't know you could keep them without changing for that long. Do you have pictures from when you first got them?

Wish Pictures

SereneLiz
Well, I have been on RealSelf a LOT lately, reading everyone's stories, and looking at the photos. I have come up with some "wish pix" although I am heavier than some of the women who have the best looking after pictures, the implants are still the desired results I want. I wish I could have lost some weight before the surgery, but it just isn't going to happen. 3 years ago, before menopause hit, I weight 25-30 lbs less, but now, at 5'6 1/2", I am 165 lbs. When I weighed less, the edges of the implants would poke me and really hurt, so at least now they don't do that. They hurt in other ways though. Anyway, here are some wish pictures.
