5’5” 170 36G cup- hoping for D. After meeting 2 different doctors I chose the one who seemed to hear what I wanted a little more. In the end I am wanting for sure a lift and reduction. I (attempted) to breastfeed 4 kids, and now that season of life is behind me- I am ready to take the plunge. My insurance approved the procedure with a requirement of 575 g per side according to the shnur scale. I wasn’t sure if that much of a reduction was right for me, so we are paying for the procedure out of pocket .

Hi I had just over 500 grams from each breast which is equivalent to just over 1 lb each breast so I’m thinking 575 gram per side isn’t a lot.

I have been trying to ask around and get an idea about how much is taken out- on average- or approx. how much equals 1 cup size of difference. According to my PS, he seems to think I have quite a bit of stretched skin. Large breasts + 4 pregnancies/breastfeeding +gravity has not been kind. I go in for another pre-op appt. May 31, so I have a list of questions for him then!
April 24, 2018
I read that 250 cc is a cup. My PS estimated 250 cc per breast but he ended up removing 500 and 400. I think a lot of that ended up being extra skin and stuff. I wasn’t filled out in the upper poles so I’m sure they appeared smaller than they were. I was a 36 DD and he thinks I’ll be a full c cup now

I am Going to inquire about upper pole fullness, I think some surgeons offer fat transfer to make make it a possibility
April 24, 2018
575 gram is quite a bit off. You can always ask your surgeon to see a breast implant lose to what will need to be removed. then you can really see how much it is and decide if you want more taken.

Yes I agree, that is why I decided not to take the insurance route. bottom line is that I don’t want “insurance requirement” to determine what size I end up.
April 24, 2018
I did the same thing. insurance wanted 290 grams which may not seem like a lot but I am 5’2” and 125lbs. 6 weeks out and I still feel they are big but then I see myself in a shirt and think “they are so small” lol. I would also ask that if you private pay and they do end up taking what insurance wanted an you go back and bill them.

Yah that thought has crossed my mind- maybe I will ask if that’s a possibility!

The size thing is really throwing me for a loop, I think my breasts are dense, so that means whatever they take out will be heavier, unless it’s fat, then it weighs less I think? Anyway I don’t want extremely small, that’s just not right for me, but around a D I feel would be good.
April 25, 2018
Another thing I did was go and look at all the breast augmentation on here. I looked for women who started out pretty flat and got implants the same size as the grams I needed removed to get an idea on how much it looks. If that makes any sense.
June 28, 2018
You can’t compare an implant to fat tissue the weight of fat vs the saline/silicone weighs completely different. Not to mention their are different types of fat tissue it really depends if your fat tissue is dense and fat will expand when there is nothing to hold it in right. I had 800 g removed and still have plenty. I think it just depends on your body type and what your and tour surgeon feels is right for your situation.

That’s a great suggestion

And yah! Why the hell would people feel so bold- even doctors saying- well you want to be proportionate? Yes I do but size G is not proportionate, it is ridiculous!
June 28, 2018
I has a breast reduction 8 weeks ago and can tell you it was totally worth it. I went for my initial consult and my dr and I discussed taking out approx 600 on each. I wasn’t concerned at that point it would be too much taken out. I went through the whole insurance process and the insurance came back and said that 600 grams wouldn’t be enough for the insurance to cover the procedure. They stated in order for them to cover it the doctor would need to take out 850 grams. This completely terrified me because I felt like that was way too much to be taken out. I went for my pre-op and discussed my concern with my doctor he said no need to worry that he would do what was best for me regardless of what the insurance was requiring. My fear was coming out with nothing left. My doctor ended up taking 800 from each. I was originally a 40 E and now I am a 38 full C small D! I am so happy that I had the procedure and would do it all over again! So, I think if your insurance is willing to pay do it! Talk your concerns over with your doctor! Best of Luck to you!

Hi there- yes I did go ahead with surgery. I had 400 taken from side, so in my case I had tons of stretched out skin. I went from busting out of ddd bras to approx a D at 4 weeks out.

*rant post* I keep getting feedback from people I tell about the choice I’m making. One remark I seem to keep hearing is “well your body is not very slim so why would you want smaller breasts?”
Did I miss something? Just because I am a curvy girl - it does not mean that I should be doomed to a lower quality of life with size G breasts. Also, do they think I don’t know my body is? I dress my body every morning, I understand what size my body is. Good riddance to these large boobs- about 8 weeks to go!

OMG that is so rude! Don't listen to haters with their unsolicited opinions. I mean, I know you wouldn't let those comments stop you but I can imagine it's annoying to have to deal with the negativity. All you need right now is positivity.

Really tho- it won’t change my mind so I don’t know why they bother giving their opinion
April 18, 2018
I didn’t tell anyone I was having a BR until it was done. I couldn’t stand the way friends with their B cups questioned why I would put myself through an operation and what was the problem with the ones I had . I was always good at hiding how big they were that no one believed I was a 32G . I’m 8 weeks post and a size 34D with a lot of swelling going on. I’m hoping to be nearer a C when everything settles. The best decision I have made for myself . Good luck

Exactly! I haven’t mentioned my actual bust size to many people (actually just my hubby and you guys) - but I don’t have many friends who struggle with the big bust issue. I don’t think many people realize how actual Big and Heavy these boobs are!

Totally agree. I told only a select few lol, however, they all said that I must be mad, that I wasn’t big etc etc!! Really... they’d never seen me without my bra on lol, a 32H cup. Try lugging those around with you everyday then they’d know exactly where you’re coming from. When you have large breasts, you get very good at covering them up. I’m wondering if any of my work colleagues will even notice a difference when I’m back at work?
I’m just into week 3 but like you, still tender and swollen. I’m hoping I’ll decrease in size a little as time goes on.
Good luck and happy healing to all you amazing ladies x
April 22, 2018
I understand where you’re coming from completely. You know your body and if you’re not happy or you feel that your life is compromised by a part of your anatomy that can be altered to give you a better quality of life - then do it. I lived with big boobies for years, ever since a little kid. I hated them. They’ve always been a source of ridicule for me, chipping away at my confidence over the years. They made exercise and dancing difficult, finding clothes to fit impossible and not to mention the constant nagging backache/shoulder ache........need I go on. There’s lots of unseen issues with big breasts that not everyone sees or understands. If you know in your heart that you need this doing - then do it. I’m only a few days post op but I already know I made the right decision.

Yes! Yes! Yes! So many everyday inconveniences that I’ve become accustomed to coping with. No reason in our day and age to struggle and suffer with overly large breasts when we have the medical technology To do something about it!
April 23, 2018
I’m looking forward to going dancing again without having to wear two sports bras. Oh, and not having to lift the damn things up and throw them over my shoulder when having a shower!
When’s your operation? I’ll stay in touch to let you know what life is like on the other side - I think I’m now 5 or 6 days post and starting to feel great. :)

I am so excited! I have wanted this for so long and am glad to have a support system. I was nervous to make an account on here, but have been so happy with the positive and uplifting friends I am finding ❤️
April 24, 2018
I told very few people because even though i had huge H cups, and my boobs were always the topic of conversation...even pointed out in classes where I knew no one! I just want to be normal, and not be in constant pain...my business. I would love to tie a five pound bag of flour around the neck of those who judge us, and force them to live with that for a few weeks...they would be singing a different tune after I think! Do what I said right for you...it is your life, and your body...lots of us out here understand what you are dealing with. Good luck!

Yes I agree- anyone who makes a mean comment should have to wear them for a week. Even my husband who is so supportive- does not understand why- he likes them the way they are. I asked him what if his testicles were the size of cantaloupes? But seriously

Same here. When I scheduled my surgery I had been thinking about it and planning it for literally YEARS/DECADES. There was a 0% chance I was going to change my mind, so I decided I wasn't going to tell anyone because I didn't want to hear anyone's questions or comments until AFTERWARD. I ended up being pleasantly surprised that most people I told afterward were supportive, mostly just curious about the process. It's been almost 10 months now and I still haven't told a whole lot of people-although some have maybe figured it out their own...after all my weight has fluctuated over the years so my whole body has changed enough that maybe they aren't sure how much of it was boobs...? But I sure know the difference and have no regrets, except for waiting as long as I did to have it done!

So now that it is officially May, I can tell myself that my breast reduction is in approximately one month. It seems like since I have scheduled my appointment that they have become even more bothersome than they used to be and I just can’t wait for a pretty new set of girls!

My boobs feel like they've become more bothersome as well! I think that we're just getting anxious for our surgeries. & My measurement in almost 30 inches!!
User Avatar
May 5, 2018
Thanks for sharing your journey. I can only imagine the anticipation is real. My measurements were 35" on the left and 33" on the right. The time between my consultation and surgery was only 2-weeks thus I went directly into countdown mode. I'm almost 3-weeks post op and it is one of the best decisions I have made. They're still a little swollen but sitting high now. :-)

Looking forward to hearing about the rest story.

Not long to go! You will feel much better afterward. It's a perky new lease on life! I love going braless or just wearing a stretchy bralette 99% of the time. I haven't really bothered getting any "real" bras-I got a couple in the earlier healing phases but then decided I didn't really like or need them, so they sit in my drawer...
