When I arrived on the day of my surgery, I waited...

When I arrived on the day of my surgery, I waited around a bit in the pre-op area, I'd estimate about 40 minutes (which was fine). I chose to do the awake procedure, for which I was told I would be given an oral medication to help with the discomfort of numbing, etc. I never received the medication.
One of the nurses came in and asked what procedure I was having done, and I told her. When I mentioned lipo on my chest, she had a confused look on her face and said that the doctor had not mentioned that to her, and she would check on it. (I had previously spoken with the doctor about the possibility of lipo, so I'm not sure how that was overlooked). When the doctor came into the room, he said he could do the reduction of the areola, but not the lipo because he'd already used the equipment for someone else, but if I decided at a later date that I still wanted lipo, he would do it. He said my chest "looked like pecs" and I would probably be fine with just the areola reduction. I know he was trying to help the situation, but I am the one who has to look at myself everyday, so I think my opinion is the relevant one.
The numbing process was quite painful, since I had not been given the oral meds, but overall it was bearable and the procedure went well.

Afterwards, I felt a bit rushed. I got up, got dressed and was on my way out of the door within 5 minutes of being sewn back up (which I suppose is a perk of awake surgery). I had to remind the staff I needed a prescription for post op meds, and ask for a post op appointment, as they were not offered. Granted, it was a "minor" procedure, it's still surgery.

I will add that I saved about 1500 not having the lipo done. When I asked for a new quote for just the lipo, it was almost DOUBLE that. The secretary explained to me that it would have been cheaper to do it with the areola reduction, but since I didn't, it would be more (Again, I had already spoken with the doctor about what I wanted.)

At my post op appointment, I expressed to the doctor that I felt my areolae were uneven, and different sizes but he argued that they were not. I am a few months post op at this time, and they still are noticeably uneven in size and shape by myself and friends. I am aware that no surgery is 100% and I was not expecting such, but in actuality, one appears to be very similar in size to what it was before surgery. However, a friend of mine who had surgery done by this same doctor also said he is dissatisfied with his areola size, so maybe Stanwix just has a standard size he uses for his surgeries, I don't know.

While my pros are listed at the top, my cons in short, are that I feel it was a rushed job to some extent, with the skipping of the oral medication, the way I was basically "thrown out" of the facility after surgery, and had to ask for a post op appointment. I think the surgeon did what he wanted to do, vs. what was asked for, and the fact that I'm now being charged almost double what I would have paid if lipo would have been done when I originally asked for it.

All in all, not sure if the results I got were worth 2000, but looking on the bright side, I suppose my areolae are at least somewhat smaller than before...

Also, I do think my results and experience with this doctor are atypical for him, as two others I know who have gone to him had great experiences. I take partial blame for the lipo equipment hiccup since I was unsure initially which route would be the best to go, as far as getting just the areola reduction, or having both the areola reduction and more fat removed from my chest area.

I will update this if I return to this doctor in the near future.
