Hi everyone-
After years and years of being self conscious about my nose (not to mention all the sinus headaches and constant inability to breathe properly), I can't believe this is finally happening!! I'm a ball of nervous energy and excitement.
I have no idea if anyone will even read this, but this site has been super informative and reading everyone's stories and reviews have been so helpful I thought I'd stop being a creepy stalker and share my journey too :)
I grew up in a pretty small town and was always made fun of for looking different. Growing up you don't think that these stupid little comments hurt like "big nose" or "where are you from-from?", or "you have such an ethnic/exotic look" but honestly these words cut pretty deep. My self esteem is fine, I know that I'm not ugly, I have a great life, and before people jump down my throat **I have NO problem with my ethnicity** I'm proud of my heritage but judging me as a person by my features, or trying to guess where I'm "from- from" shouldn't be an issue. Ever. Plus, it's just rude. Ok, end rant. lol
Anywayyyyy. It was time to finally fix the ugly bulbous hook nose on the outside and make it match with the cute little nose I always envisioned having.
I think I had to wait something like 6 months for my initial consultation with Dr. G in Feb. but after that everything flew by. I honestly didn't know what to expect. For whatever reason, I imagined the phone ringing off the hook in an old school brown and beige waiting room crowded with patients in various stages of post-op bandages while some bored receptionists sat at the desk ignoring people. Not the case at all!! (just my anxiety working overtime as usual) The office is lovely- Small and very quiet, with a calming atmosphere and nice lighting. The girls at the front are the sweetest in person! Ani has been my patient consultant and she is a gorgeous little angel- so helpful with questions, paperwork etc. Love her.
I didn't have a ton of questions for Dr. G, but again, I didn't know what to expect. Was he going to be cold? Pre-occupied? Rushed? Nope. None of those things. We chatted a bit, he asked me some questions about what I hoped to achieve, he checked out my nose a bit, drew me a picture of how crooked my septum was on the inside, and went over all the things he could correct during the procedure: remove the hump, thin the bridge a bit, refine the bulbous tip, and slightly lift the columella so it doesn't droop when I smile- you know the drill;) I showed Dr. G some wish pics and he was like: I can make you look better than that(yay!), we looked in the mirror some more, and I told him how excited I was for this to finally be happening. He asked me when I wanted to schedule my surgery and I said asap knowing that so many of you had to wait such a long time, but when he said "ok, how does next week sound?" I almost fell over. I was expecting to have to beg just to be squeezed in before June. Unfortunately, that was a little tooooo soon for me, and it would have meant being in the worst part of recovery over my husband's birthday which I didn't want to put him thru. I decided on March 8th. I wanted to give myself enough time to gather all my supplies, take care of my blood work, and mentally prepare for everything without feeling rushed. I left the office feeling completely confident and totally psyched.
The pre-op was pretty much the same: Ani went over all the paperwork, do's and don'ts, and things to expect post-op with me. She gave me my meds and my blood work forms. They even printed me a map highlighting the clinics closest to my house. Doesn't seem like much, but living in LA, little details like that really do make a difference. I met once more with Dr. G, we went over the game plan for my surgery again, talked briefly, he examined my nose a bit more and took my "before" pics with his camera(it's a Canon 5D I believe in case anyone is curious). He did mention I have some very slight asymmetry that won't be completely corrected with surgery but I expected that. Striving for perfection is unrealistic, but after seeing so many of you guys with amazing results I'm pretty sure it will be a huge improvement. I did ask about the thickness of my skin. He said I had normal skin- not thin, not thick. Phew! Sorry for the long post!! I've encountered so many haters and people telling me I'm crazy in the past when I've opened up about my nose, guess I had a lot to say. I've only told my husband and my bff about my surgery...
Tomorrow at 6am! Yikes! Wish me luck and minimal swelling hee hee.
Thanks for listening guys. xoxo

Some before pics. Not the most flattering but just so people have an idea what I'm working with.... I've become well practiced in the 3/4 turn head tilt so finding photos that were taken from the front was a little difficult.

bruised toddler face

Feeling a bit better today, but pretty low energy. Mainly just resting on the couch, napping, and icing my bruised fat face.
I'm really swollen and the pain after surgery was no joke. It's hard to describe...Kind of a burning or stinging feeling in my nose. I've been dosing up on liquids, arnica, bromelian, and tylenol. Taking the norco as well but it makes me feel really nauseous so I might just stop it all together.
- Yesterday it felt like I was changing my drip pad(yuck) once an hour or so? Today has been much less.
-Sleeping has been rough. I'm a normally a side sleeper and sleeping upright has been hard to get used to. I wake up a few times a night.
-Things that have been super helpful:
Memory foam neck pillow
Humidifier
Biotene throat spray
Mashed potatoes! The extra sodium is worth having something substantial in my belly so I don't feel so sick from all the pills.
Hope I start to feel and look more normal soon! Cast comes off Tuesday.
