I had my surgery yesterday morning and so far so good

WORTH IT
I broke my nose in 2006, and ever since then I've had this awful bump, the tip of my nose has become more bulbous and my septum had shifted, obviously. About 5 months after I broke it, I had a septoplasty with an ENT. Which turned out to be a complete waste of time because nothing had changed after that surgery. Ever since the break, my nose has been one of my biggest insecurities. Every picture taken of me I immediately zoom in on my nose and cringe. Finally I decided to take the plunge and get it fixed!
I had my surgery yesterday morning and so far so good! The worst part so far was definitely when I came out of anesthesia - my nose was burning, my throat was SO sore and my head was pounding.
But my surgeon says the surgery went great, he was able to shave off the bump, shave off some of the sides of my nose (I told him I wanted the sides brought in too, I didn't like how wide my nose is at the bridge) and he reduced my tip from 11mm to 7mm!
Sleeping has been really uncomfortable only because I'm a side sleeper - and you have to sleep on your back with your head propped up for a couple weeks. And it's so uncomfortable for me. I can't taste ANYTHING which is also super annoying - because I'm starving but nothing sounds good. So just trying to stay hydrated at this point. Overall, recovery has been a lot easier and less painful than I was expecting!
I'm SO GLAD I did this, and I can't wait to get this cast off (my surgeon wants it left in for 2 weeks!)

Good luck in your recovery! I had mine on the 18th and I’ve noticed that every single day is a big improvement / noticeable difference. Can’t wait to see your results!

I look forward to seeing you progress. You're going to look great! Did they do rib graft? I had a revision recently and mine is improved but I should have gotten rib graft so im going to get a 3rd.

No I didn't. My surgeon said he actually doesn't like to do rib grafts - he said he had a plan to use whatever was left of my septum to kind of splint behind my columella, but when he got in there what was left of my septum was so flimsy - he couldn't use it. So he used a special kind of stitch to straighten and stabilize it, and he said the scar tissue that forms will hopefully keep it straight. Out of all the problems I had with my nose - my deviated septum was at the bottom of that list, honestly. I could breathe alright, I just didn't like how uneven my nostrils looked. But if my nose looks perfect except uneven nostrils when it's all healed - I'll still be happy!

Follow up appt today

heycoolsweater
Had my follow up appt today to remove the internal splints. Talk about instant relief!
I have to go back in two days to get the stitches removed from my columella. Before I left my surgeon said “oh by the way. You have dissolvable stitches inside your nose. Once those start to dissolve you may smell something that resembles vomit. Don't panic - that's normal." Oh GREAT.
Since surgery, I have been sleeping in our guest room - just because I’m a considerate girlfriend and I know that I won’t be getting much sleep, and didn’t wanna keep my boyfriend awake all night too. Sleeping with my head elevated is definitely uncomfortable - and painful. It’s making my neck hurt and in turn, it’s been triggering migraines. I asked my surgeon today how long I have to sleep with my head elevated and he said “as long as you feel it helps.” He said I don’t have to continue to do so anymore if it just triggers migraines, I just may have some more swelling.
Also, my surgeon keeps the external cast on for two weeks. So that won’t be removed until next Thursday. I know usually it’s only kept on for 1 week, but this is just my surgeons preference I guess. So I’ll be returning to work on Wednesday (I’m a nurse) with my cast on, hopefully the bruising will be better.
I don’t really have any pain, just some burning in my nose and pressure in my head at times.
I think that’s all the updates I have for now!

Results are PERFECT!

heycoolsweater
I got my cast off two days ago, and I’m loving the results already! My surgeon said since this is this, essentially, the third major trauma to my nose (when I broke it, and when I had a previous septoplasty right after) the swelling is going to be a little worse and probably going to take a little longer to go down. But honestly since my cast was left on for two weeks, I really think the swelling wasn’t as bad as it would’ve been had I gotten it off at the one week mark like most people do - because I was definitely expecting it to be worse! And I’ve already noticed a significant difference in just two days! So excited to watch the changes day by day!
