Nose is exactly the shape I wanted - recovery smoother than expected
10/10 Rhinoplasty & Upper Blepharoplasty Experience!
I am 2 weeks post op after having rhinoplasty & upper blepharoplasty from Dr. Denton. I had a really great experience and would recommend him to anyone.
Here is what my experience was like getting rhinoplasty and upper blepharoplasty (Spoiler alert, I woke up in the middle of the surgery....!)
I will start by saying that I am super-super-squeamish about surgery, hospitals, bl00d, anything like that, I tend to pass out without fail even seeing gory movies. It's wild that a wimp like me would actually consider cosmetic surgery, but here we are. I let Dr. Denton and his team know I'ma big-time fainter from the start, and they were super accommodating to make sure I didn't see anything.
Before choosing Dr. Denton, I had a consultation with another Dr, but decided Dr. Denton was the right one. Very happy with my decision. Dr. Denton really listened to what I wanted, and he just has a really cool personality/energy. It was a few months between when my consultation was to when the surgery was. The night before my surgery I was still not 100% certain that I was going to go through with it. Because, again, super freaked out by surgery stuff. But at 6am, as I was putting my shoes on at the hotel on the day of my surgery, I had the cold realization that I hadn't talked myself out of it by now. And I was going to have to go through with it today XD
As we pulled up in front of his office, Google Maps announced "Arrived. Dr B Denton." I made the self-deprecating joke to my husband that "Andrew B Denton' my face in today." And the next thing I knew I was in the waiting room signing a contract to make it official and there was no getting out of this now. But I DO want the surgery RESULTS, its just the process to get there that has me trippin' in this moment.
As I'm sitting there, all I can see in my mind is Latoya/Michael Jackson's teeny tiny nose on my face, and then I start tearing up silently. Boohoo me. Just then, Dr. Denton suddenly appears from around the corner, he's mid-jolly "Good mor- Oooh..." sees that I'm crying and we both just start laughing. He tells me nerves are totally normal. Here we go! The next 10 minutes are a whirlwind, there's a few before photos taken, a final consultation, and drawing on my face. Then a nice nurse with pretty eyes walks me to the operating room. I lie down, and there's 4 maybe 5 people in the room. After about 2 minutes of getting things organized, like sorting out where to put my ponytail, its time to rock. Dr. Denton is the one who administers the anesthesia needle (oh yeah did I mention I hate needles too?) Its totally fine, it doesn't hurt. There's a beeping machine. He says what my heartrate is 25/100 which sounds exceptionally low. He says he'll be back when he sees levels he likes. Then I fall asleep. No dreams, no astral projecting, no seeing spirits or out-of-body experiences (that I can remember) just blackout.
Without any perception of time, but knowing SOME amount of time has passed since falling asleep, the next thing I know my eyes are open and I am looking up through some sort or orange translucent material that has been placed over my eyes. I instantly remember where I am and what is happening. I feel no pain and Im not scared, thanks to the anesthesia. But I am aware that I've woken up during the violent nose-breaking part. There's a lot of commotion but I can tell its all ok. I just close my eyes and drift back to sleep.
The next time I wake up, the surgery is over (and I find out later that a few hours have passed). A nice lady is beside me, she is saying something to me or asking me a question. I am replying and saying words for a while until my brain catches up and I realize that what I am saying to her has nothing to do with the question she asked. I'm looped up! Ha! She helps me into a wheelchair and I'm whirled out to the underground parking where my husband is waiting.
Getting back up into my hotel room from the parking/lobby was something else. We definitely got some looks from other hotel guests but I was too looped to worry about it. Once in the hotel room, I prop my head up with a travel pillow and I sleep for a bit. When packing for the trip, I packed my own towels because I thought there would be a lot of bl00d and I didn't want to ruin the hotel towels. But to my happy surprise, there was really no gore at all. My husband changed my dip bandage thing on the first day, but by the second day I was fine doing it myself.
The recovery was a lot smoother than I had expected. So I want everyone to know that. If you are scared like I was about that stuff it really isn't that bad at all, and that's coming from a certified wimpy girl.
Ok, as of last week, the cast came off. My bruises are slowly fading and I'm feeling great. I am so impressed with my eyelids, I can wear winged eyeliner again! And my nose (from what I can see so far) appears to be exactly the shape I wanted. I don't look like Latoya or Michael at all.
Over all, I had a remarkable experience with Dr. Denton and his fabulous team. THANK YOU!!!
