Rhinoplasty/upper blepharoplasty, somewhat disappointed

I really liked Dr. Mao when we met for our first consultation. I liked him so much that I booked the surgery date that same day; my surgery was May 1st, 2018. Come surgery day, Dr. Mao was attentive and he answered all of my questions. I had a rhinoplasty, “septoplasty,” and an upper blepharoplasty done. Mr. Mao did a beautiful job with the upper bleph procedure; I have no complaints there. But, as far as the other two procedures go, there are things that I wish were done/improved. First off, my septum wasn’t fixed at all, and I still have the same breathing issues I had prior to the surgery, if not more so afterwards. That was a big one for me, and it wasn’t addressed which is frustrating considering how much I paid for the surgery. It was also the first thing Dr. Mao and I discussed during our consultation.
I loved the results of my rhinoplasty after the cast was taken off, but now nearly five months after surgery, I’m noticing that my nose is visibly crooked (still, which is something that I stressed I wanted addressed). I also wanted the sides of my nostrils taken down during the surgery, and Dr. Mao advised me to wait so I did. It’s now become clear to me that I should have pushed to have them reduced during surgery, because they look pretty off now that my nose itself is crooked. My hump and tip were reduced which is nice, but the crookedness is still a glaring/noticeable issue.
I also have not been contacted for any follow up appointment since the cast removal, and it’s been nearly 6 months since then. Not that it’s a big deal because I’m not sure I want to go back.
I chose Dr. Mao based on all of positive reviews I read on here, and I was really optimistic that he would be the Dr. that could get the job done. I understand that sometimes plastic surgery is a hit and miss, and not everything goes as planned, but the lack of communication that I have experienced is concerning. I’m giving two stars for the upper blepharoplasty, because that surgery is proving to be life-changing for me. Everything else? Not so great.

I am regretful for that the lack of communication for your case. I went back to check the notes and I only saw you for the first post-op visit for cast removal and none since!!! My notes specified that I wanted to see you back in 3 weeks after the 1st post-op visit. Normally I would see post-rhinoplasty patients at their cast removal 5-7 days after surgery, 3-4 weeks post, then 3-6 months post, then one year to 18 months for their final followup. I am not sure how this fell through the cracks as I almost never have patients not followup after rhinoplasty. When the nose heals after surgery sometimes it can shift and the follow-ups are necessary to minimize further changes using methods such as taping and massage. It is not too late, you are only 5 months out. I realize that you live out of state but in your case an in-office followup is required.

no...my nose is not my issue. I totally agree with communication making or breaking the decision. I just about decided to not go with a doc i was pretty sure i was decided on. It is so hard to trust one's face.
